2012 AFL draft medium midfielders

Featured Replies

Never thought i would see someone who makes cale morton look big but whitfield certainly aint a tank

If moloney leaves and we pick up a 2nd round compo pick (reigning bnf, good $$, long service) i like the sound of jacob bollard as someone who can give us some drive off half back freeing blease to play mid/fwd full time and push nicholson up to a wing

i like the sound of Emmanual Irra. 2nd or 3rd rounder maybe

Kevin Sheehan says: “Small midfielder who is extremely quick and skilful on both sides. Born in Uganda and has already played senior football at South Adelaide. Played for the World Team in the 2010 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships before playing for SA in the 2011 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and the 2012 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Has a huge appetite for the game and a big upside in terms of future development. From AIS-AFL Academy’s 15th intake. ”

We need to land Toumpas. Would be nice to also pick up one of O'Rouke, Mayes, Wines depending on where we pick up Viney. We should definitely be targeting these quality mids, and Toumpas fills exact needs for us. Pace, skill, composure, leadership, work ethic. He's the complete package and we need to get him in red n blue!

Toumpas might go pick #2 :(

If he does I'll be distraught. It'd be like missing Cotchin again

There's a big chance, especially if GC still hold pick 2 on draft day. They don't need another ruckman with their stocks, but GWS' cupboard is all but bare.

Brogan

Giles

Phillips

Downie

Not great. I'd say GWS will be doing everything in their power to get GC's pick 2, and therefore Grundy.

However, this could also work in our favour re: Viney in 2nd round.

So many mind games to be played before November, and why I think it's not the laydown misere others seem to think re: Whitfield at #1.

wouldn't think GC would go for toumpas considering they have jagear o meara coming along now?

They need results, imagine what a midfield of Jaegar O meara, Toumpas, Ablett, Swallow and Bennell could produce

They would if they get a decent trade for Caddy.

This would allow them to get the inside mid they're crying out for later in the first round (which is where most of them are rated at the moment).

Christ thats a potentially unstoppable midfield if what you hear is true about those kids

expect Jack Martin to go to the Suns in exchange for pick 2.

Giants get #1 (Whitfield) and then pick # 2 (for Brodie Grundy).

Toumpas for #3 and to the Demons.

Fingers crossed.

Ok, haven't watched any of these guys live, but from the things i'm hearing and the snippets i've seen, i'm really keen on Jono O'Rourke for pick 3 or 4. With Jesse Hogan being the other pick.. Beyond that, Jesse Lonergan with his brute strength and leg speed would be appealing as an inside mid. Nick Graham and Jacob Ballard are the types of players I think we should be interested in as well.

Keywords: determined, hard running, ultra-competitve, strong over the ball..

We've focused too much on 'development' type players in the past. They need to be ready to go R1 next year, and this is something of a Neeld mantra. I mean look at Sydney...it doesn't matter how precise you are by foot, if you cant win your own football you don't get picked. Simple.
