MCC Committee Election

Better to try and make it on our own than rely on the begging bowl

The MCC is not a begging bowl. It is where we came from. We didn't emerge from suburbs.

Problem is the MCC is not there anymore for us with only approx 20% support. This club has failed to forge its identity with a GREATER MELBOURNE and is becoming increasingly irrelevant as an anacronism. Being linked with toffs is also a turn off for future support growth. If we had some real on field success over the past few decades it would have easier to cast away the apron strings though.

So your solution is to just dry up & die??

20% is better than nothing. We get looked after with a good stadium deal, it is a positive.

We could not get any dryer at the moment.

I would like to add that this is perhaps not the right time but a full split must be considered some time in the future once we restore on field respectability and the brand becomes viable enough to not be overly dependant on handouts.

de cali, surely an alliance with the MCC can only be positive for the MFC.

The MCC is the most powerful sporting club in the country and I do believe they have quite a bit of money and influence.

Why would you sever the relationship?

I would strenuously question that statement

The MCC is more a ground management/social club than a true sporting club

I have been underwhelmed by the lack of success generated by the relationship over the last 5 decades. Not that I have anything against the MCC but their support seems like token help to satisfy their largest minority. They would prefer to ignore us but they can't.

Over the last 5 decades?

We actually realligned with the MCC when Stynes came on board. Before that we were a broke nomad at the junction oval.

Please give the MCC some cred.

Great move by Stynes and co.

And if we can't train at the 'G', at least we are training as close as we possibly can.

Now we have to become profitable, and good footy increases revenue.

So really, it always comes back to good footy. Thats all I wanna see.

I will defer to guys like you. I am not a member of the MCC but was a Redlegs member around the time of the split. There was a lot of dissatisfaction then. And I do remember the dark days of Junction Oval and few friends for the club. But I am concerned with the long term viability of such a relationship with an organisation that may not support us a 100% down the track. it's up you guys to keep them honest.

The votes have to be in by Monday, so now is the time for Demon supporting MCC members to vote for Wood and Yencken, who, we are told, have Demon sympathies.

I think this is very important.

Just think if the MCC Committee was Collingwood or Essendon dominated! Heaven forbid!

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
