Bloody hell Ray Hadley is an APPALLING swimming commentator. He has no expertise in the event (he is a radio celeb/former horse race caller/former auctioneer) but still manages to dominate when he has former Olympic swimmers beside him in the commentary box.

Seriously, argh!

Yep , I've found a way to increase the crowd noise and at the same time reduce the audio levels of the commentators (on my tele) .

I've no idea how I did it , but thank goodness for small mercies .

However , Susie O'Neill is great (in more ways than one)

Well , judging by the profile of the race , Mark Cavendish will do well to win it . I just love those profile's ..

road_race_profile.JPG

Appreciate Macca, those profiles are great. I did watch it yesterday. Intrigued with how o'Grady went on the attack.

Don't know much about the winner, although I did hear on the commentary that he just finished his suspension from a positive doping in the past.

Timed it bloody well.....

Yep , Vinokourov copped a 2 year ban in 2007 during that years 'Tour de France' . His whole team (Astana) were withdrawn from that years race as well .

Sometimes I'd rather not know this information. But , it's at our fingertips via google and it's too tempting not to look .

Our 4x100 metre Men's freestyle relay team qualified fastest tonight . The Final is on at 6.00am sharp (tomorrow morning)

I was a massive Vinokourov fan in '06 - big shame to hear when he was found out for drugs. Has been back for a few years - massive effort to win 12 years apart, though the question mark will remain.

Borat will be so proud!

More Gold for Kazakhstan in the Womens 53kg Weightlifting ! Zulfiya Chinshanlo wins with a 'Clean and Jerk' lift of 288 pounds (sounds better in the old measure)

If you think the Olympics are too commercial then how 'bout footy ?

Apart from the ads played at a billion decibels at the games , they even emblazon advertizing on the actual football . How crass is that ? :) (though Sherrin and Ross Faulkner is hardly 'Non commercial')

We live in a commercial World , Biffen . And it's been that way for a fair while . Atlanta did change things somewhat but trying to fight the advancement of commercialism in sport is futile .

I reckon its wise to assume that most if not all top cyclists have dabbled in various supplements so I agree V's timing was exquisite as much as anything else. But more importantly he gets full marks for his guts in breaking open the break.Stuey was clearly meant to stretch out the field, put pressure on GB until our super domestique could bring the sprinters up to take a shot at Gold on the Strand.

Big time fail to Cadel there, so its no suprise he's being 'rested' from the TT as a result.

It certainly looked ominous for a while with GB doing a very passable imitation of Sky (including the Kraut Sky rider helping the Poms) only to come unstuck I suspect because, without team radios, they couldnt work out how much time they needed to get back to catch Stuey and the gang.

The Columbian guy who got silver was also team Sky fwiw !!

Phil Liggett found it difficult without all the Tour race info as well and was reduced to talking rubbish and missing the TV feed he did have eg Wiggins going off the back with about 10 ks to go.

Who knows when Cadel went.

At least the other commentator, though he repeated himself, was prepared to risk his reputation with a few predictions......the only one Liggett made was about 5 ks from the finish when even I knew the Peleton wasnt catching anyone

After being bombarded with 3 weeks of Tour de France I couldn't give 2 hoots about the road racing.

I'm up for the velodrome stuff tho' , very entertaining.

What to say about Magnusson , too much hyping himself up IMO.

All the talk pre Olympics of him swimming "Scary fast" etc and then a massive choke in the 4x100.

Saw him trying to hide behind the other 3 swimmer post race, bet he woulda been front and centre if there was gold around his neck.

I don't mind if ya talk the talk but ya gotta walk the walk , luckily he still has the chance to do that.

Gotta say I wasn't too disappointed when Rice bombed out either.

Got sick to death of her over the last 4 years.

She'll still be right with the glossy mags now that Koby Bryant's 'poking' around.

G'day Macca.

I've found pretty much the whole CH-9 commentary woeful. A real turnoff, & I'm struggling to watch any of it so far.

It's a bit like that . The only quiet(ish) spot at the footy is in the bars (is this done purposely , Biff ?) Don't mind the music loud though . And to think that once upon a time I found bars a bit noisy ! Strangely enough , I'm mainly a 'Straight' Coke drinker these days .

G'day Macca.

Yep , I kinda 'Switch off ' from their mutterings 'dl' . Selective hearing I think they call it . I've been accused of selective hearing before though  I must be good at it !

The Kookaburra's dominated South Africa tonight . A 6 - 0 drubbing . Fair start to their campaign .

The Hockeyroos lost to the Kiwi's (0-1) yesterday but apparently this was not unexpected . New Zealand are ranked 6 in the world and the Aussies are ranked 7 . Came as a bit of a surprise that we're ranked that low . The Kiwi's are the reigning Oceanic champions .

Belinda Snell hits a 3 pointer from beyond the half way line to tie the game and take it to O/T . Wow !

Jackson fouled out so it's gonna be tough . Opals 65 France 65 . C'mon Aussies !

Edit : Opals lose in O/T 70 - 74 . Brave effort .

Brave efforts won't win 'em Gold.

Especially when getting rolled by France.

To each his own hey ? Did you watch the game ?

You may be falling for the trap of looking at past Olympic results . We're not expected to make the final and its a bit of a lottery after you look past the USA . The Opals have done exceptionally well in the last 3 Olympics but in a lot of ways they have overachieved .

As an example , the Hockeyroos are ranked 7th in the World . Expectations are still high

Well the French are ranked 8th and we're 3rd . If you took a line through the Mens side , Argentina are 3 and Serbia are 8 . Serbia can beat Argentina and if they did it wouldn't be that much of a shock .

You pointed the finger at Magnussen as well , but what about the other 3 swimmers ? No mention at all .

FO with your pathetic argument carp.

Magnussens been the 1 with the big statements so he's copping the heat.

Haven't heard much (bugger all) from Sullivan and co. but they still have to deal with the extra pressure put on them by their "look at moi" mate.

Magnussen didn't swim well but the other 3 were no better. Possibly worse .

It was pizzweak wasn't it?

A lot of these swimmers have serious tickets on themselves. Tears, sulks and melodrama when they don't get the job done!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
