Get ready for the pain this week v Ess.

You're not telling me we (18th) might get flogged by Essendon (2nd)?

GET OUT.

Hope the players don't think like you.....

Also...after our flogging by Fitzroy in ?1979 when they kicked the (then )record score, we played the Bombers next week at the MCG, and beat them by about 5 goals.

Quite a turn-around!

We only lost by 58 points last week, so I'm pretty hopeful!

I've had my clerk's visor on, assiduously poring through mountains of records looking for an omen against this particular enemy.

Eureka! Round 7 1965 - a winless Melbourne shows a bit for the first time for 3 quarters against C'wood in round 6 at Vic Park before getting blown away in final quarter. Plays reigning premier Essendon next week and wipes the floor with them.

Follow the form!

I don't understand the results of your assiduous research, Tim.

We were the reigning premiers in 1965. We were undefeated the next season for the first 6 or 7 rounds, from memory.

AH! Perhaps you meant 1985!

It wasn't '85 either, or '75. I think he's dreamin'.

Oops! Meant 1966, and have now corrected. When you're as young as I am, 1965 seems the same as 1342! :)

I will be in Bali for the next two games........At least I can watch on TV at a bar.....I think I will stay at the bar for the first quarter then retire to the swim up bar for the rest of the night and drown my sorrows......

Probably get a few nice Balinese ladies to "cheer you up"

You never know your luck but as a Dees supporter this year.....Maybe a grandmother?????

I guess this season it's a bit of take what you can get haha, at least the Arak will help you forget a poor performance from both Melbourne and a Balinese grandma

Bingo!

And special mention to Jumpin Jack for his 1979 research re win against Essendon the week following Fitzroy annihilation.

I'd recommend re-reading this thread some impressive and interesting posts!

Ther is no way in a million years we wil get closer than 75 points against Essendon and expect the same against Collingwood, we are the worst l have ever seen in 50 years of supporting them, an absolute rabble, will not win one game this year, even if we get to 12 points down we will still get mashed in the last quarter.

Bump, man a million years flew by.....

Essendon were pretty ordinary with there win over GWS and Hirdy and coaching staff were not happy about it. Hirdy was pretty [censored] off at the insipid effort some of his players brought to the game.

I hate to say it but we might be facing Essendon this week that will have has a rocket shoved fair up em.

If they play anywhere near their potential it could be another 20 goal flogging. Lets hope their injuries help us out.

It hurts so so good!

On my wedding day my face hurt from having to smile so much for photos. I have a similar pain today, is that what you were referring to, if so then you are correct.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
