MFC - Where are we honestly at

"MFC - Where are we honestly at"

off topic trying to trace the mental frailties of our supporter base to the failed merger of 1996

Crikey.

Is it possible, that this may be the very root of our problem? I have never considered it till today. Do we have a membership that just continually fails to "buy in"?

Preferring always to blame others? Is our football club merely a refection of ourselves?

No he is not. He has made up allegations that you also made that IR & the committe made up proxy votes or as I colloquially put "pulled out his bum". Your allegations are merely that - unsubstantiated allegations from a clearly biased point of view. You also do understand the online defamation laws - ironically tested in court by Joe Gutnick.

Alright . You say the proxy votes didn't exist ?

Excuse me. Are you inferring that i didn't speak to Brian Dixon?

The Proxy vote was a large factor.

Mmm good point. Interesting. However we are not the ones out there playing, which is now the current issue.

far to freudian for me doctor........i like to think i can tell the difference between good and bad footy.....keep it simple

What we could do is a straw poll on whether members of Demonland voted for the merger or not . Those that were eligible of course .

Now , before we start predicting which way the vote would go I think we should respect those defamation laws . I respect the integrity of each and every Demonland member so I would accept the outcome of the vote - absolutely .

Cheers

Alright . You say the proxy votes didn't exist ?

No I never said that. I said I accepted the result in a democracy where it quite common to use proxy votes.

I wanted to move on and unite as 1 after the Hawthorn result. But it is now clear to me, that many still want to question the integrity of the personalities involved. i take the view the club is bigger that the individual. But its now clear to me, many just fail to deal with our history without inserting their own biased points of view. The want to pass their opinions & unsubstantiated allegations as "facts" - which they are not.

Hope that clears it up for you cheers.

The Proxy vote was a large factor.

No I did not say that. I merely suggested his pre-election allegations are not uncommon and merely a tactic often used in many elections.

Hope that clears it up for you too cheers.

It was you who questioned the integrity of MFC Members earlier in this thread. If you do not wish to believe the proxy votes did not exist, fine. But do not question my integrity on that sad night either.

I was at the Dallas that night too.

Blease has played all of 4 games, and Gysberts (that's one "t" there BTW) two injury-interrupted seasons.

Save your comments till they've had 4 or 5 pre-seasons under their belts, and have played 80 - 100 games.

No mate, they're my opinions. Blease has shown zero. Gysberts- thanks for the spelling lesson champ, I have autocorrect alas-has shown nothing outside those first couple of games where he shone during floggings.

You're welcome to wait 5 years. I'm just talking about having seen very little to justify their level.

I too as a doctor prefer to treat the cause and not try to make incorrect diagnosis by only considering the symptoms.

Blease broke his leg horrifically and only debuted late last year. Give the kid a chance. Gysberts has received 2 rising star nominations, not bad for a 190cm pencil. Give him a chance too!!

and Prendergast left, he wasn't fired.

Thanks for the history lesson. Funnily enough, I support Melbourne too and know that. As I said, it's just my opinion. But a player who can't be arsed showing up on time is a bit of an attitude indication.

He left, he wasn't fired! Sometimes you don't need to be told your number is up. It's made fairly clear without it being said.

And hired by One of the AFL's power Clubs!

So was Brock McLean.

Well , what was clear .

Ian Ridley and his committee were pro merger .

The committee held many , many proxy votes . The exact number , we're unsure . How many were used , we're also unsure .

So , in the end , you and I have differing opinions on the outcome of those votes . Fair enough .

I still say lets have a straw poll . You'd have to assume that many people on this site voted back then . And I reckon the result would give a reasonably accurate portrayal of how the rank and file member voted back in 1996 .

Ah , democracy ! Ya gotta love it .

Cheers

Yip. I I'm starting to really, really questioning the integrity/motivations of some MFC members.

If you do not wish to believe the proxy votes did not exist, fine. But do not question my integrity on that sad night either.I was at the Dallas that night too.

I accept they existed. But I do not think they where used as you & others are allegedly claiming. I was also there on the night and the "behaviour" of some was nothing less than embarrassing, childish and poorly thought out misguided "passion". It is possible nothing has changed since that night?

Would you make those allegations that IR & the committed "rigged" the vote in public?

Sure i would. I am not the only person who knew about the Proxy votes. Suprised it is news to you tbh. I felt really sorry for Tiger that night, but i knew what was going on & passionately disagreed with it.

No problems. It may be difficult to re-write history. But, it would be fun. Best thing about a democracy is you have a right to question the result.

I just would prefer not to question the integrity & honest of the combatants. Long-term/short-term you get no where.

1996 -Melbourne members vote in favour of merging with Hawthorn 4,679 to 4,229. Hawthorn members overwhelmingly vote it down led by Don Scott 5,241 to 2,841. Whats the point of this ? That Melbourne members voted thier own club out of existence. What type of club culture does that set......

The culture can change again but takes EVERYBODY to change it, Board, Administration, Coaches, Players and Supporters.

The type of culture where supporters bring up this entirely irrelevant piece as some sort of justification for the state of our list?

Would you care to have a little "side wager" on the result of that poll ?

Even money , best of 2 of course . The result should in all honesty "go down to the wire" . Especially if it reflects the vote back in '96 .

Are you all right. I accepted that proxy votes are quite common in many business. No surprise to me. Your allegations are also no surprise to me either, as I've said very, very common both before and after many elections. You did not know what was going on - you merely made the choice to accept allegations that supported your side of the debate.

I on the other-hand, although I was anti-merger, refused to get involved in "name calling" - I wanted to move on and unite.

I will just do what you have done. Refuse to accept the result. I will want to scream its fixed assuming it doesn't go my way!!!!!

Of course i knew what was going. I had both sides of the arguement ringing my phone each night for 2 weeks.

It happened.

Where are we at?

Most of our best 22 are young and have played approx 40-60 games.

It's clear the "game plan" under bailey did more damage than good.

Our game plan now will take time to become the norm, with Neeld & Craig at the helm we should be at minimum playing a similar style to the top 4.

This year will be like last year, bu I think we will see something develop that will get us to the finals.

I wrote a movie script about the merger. It was called "Kill Bill".

Where are we at?

Well if the premiership is at midnight I'd say its about 2:30am at the moment

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
