Ultimate Footy - Norm Smith League

Only 4 spots left for Demonland 2 (Or the Demonland - Robbie Flower league as i like to think of it). Get in quick if you want to play.

Draft time is set to Sunday February 26 at 8pm. Enough time to see each team play once (well twice) in the NAB cup

Sounds good IWAP. What time limit do you have on picks? As Jackattack says it's best to keep it short.

It is also 1 minute per pick. Similar to Jackattack, the league i was in last year had 5 minutes per pick in a non-live draft - and it took 8pm to midnight for two consecutive days, plus several picks during the day. One of our entrants insisted on taking about 4 minutes 58 for each of his picks!

KEEPER LEAUGE

I had thought originally to keep players from last year for this year but ultimately I feel that disadvantages some teams who might have weaker teams so it is best to start from a clean slate.

I still think we should still explore the option of keeping one player each from 2011

Surely this wont disadvantage any teams!

The two new teams simply get a priority pick before the 1st round

If we are going down this track anyway in 2013 then this One Player ONLY MVP 2011 selection will add an interesting twist to this season.

Yes / No / Maybe - Thoughts?

I agree with the idea but the great thing about UF is the connection you have with the other competitors. With trades and everything happening during the year you begin to make somewhat of an alliance with some whilst refusing to trade with others knowing how they operate. It is this that seperates just names on a page like SC and DT and the reason why changing it each and every year may not be a good idea. I always play closer attention to the posters who I played UF with simply because I see them as good blokes.

For this reason also it's why I'd set up two threads one for League JA and one for League IWAP. Theres no one and two but its simply easier to connect with your league than going through all the post because last year League 2 got lost because League 1 were all so active in the thread.

This is a good suggestion imo, what do others think? Would 2 UF threads on the board for most of the season be too much.

Last year league 2 was almost like supercoach with unlimited trades of fringe players, we definately need to get a conversation going this year

If you agree with DL_7 re: two threads one for UF League JA and UF League IWAP, make some noise.

I'm in favour of two threads as long as it won't annoy non UF posters too much. Hopefully it will encourage everyone to be more active. I like UF banter, which was done well in JA's league last year, and it would be great if something similar could happen with our league. It would be my strong preference, however, not to call it under my username - but rather Ultimate Footy Demonland 2 - OR Ultimate Footy - Robbie Flower league.

I support splitting the threads.

'Ultimate Footy - Demonland' would be my preference for a name. I think to have the league named after me would be too much.

Alright, I'm in.

Ok Done. I'll re-name this one.

IWAP - If you want you can start your Demonland 2 League (Robbie Flower).

Alright, I'm in.

WB eth, looks like we're all just about locked in for UF - Demonland League.

Here are my thoughts on having the keeper league from last year.

Would have to be two at a minimum because of the draft system, otherwise it wouldn't be fair. The coach who had pick 1 has too much of an advantage over the coach with pick 16, I can't remember who was picked last year so I can't give specific examples.

If we did bring it in this year instead of next it will disadvantage those who didn't select players with the keeper league in mind. And might disadvantage those who traded late in the season.

There is also the problem of not knowing who had which players. Although there might be a way around that if I delete our current league completely and we start again.

SnomeD now in.

Only eth38 is missing, anyone know him? Last seen on demonland in December.

OK NO Keeper Leauge in any way shape or form from 2011 - I'm moving on & looking forward to 2013 on that score.

You won't be disappointed OMR; it is a draft lottery system where you place bids on the pick you want and I draw those bids from a hat to determine the order of the draft.

More details tomorrow.

I don't want to scare you JA but I wouldn't be lying if I said thinking about this UF season and your new rules doesn't give me a slight erection.

Hey BIG JIM, Check out the Ultimate Footy - Robbie Flower League thread. You're in there. IWAP has designed different aspects rules for your comp to this one so it would be worthwhile checking with him. Good luck.

edit: Some champagne comedy being produced here guys ... keep it up !...(pun not intended).

JCB is in.

eth38, snomeD and 1 of the two new guys are yet to join, that would make 18

JCB says thank you to all- especially OMR,HT and of course JA. He will be back late february and hopes he will be able to operate it.He is not IT savy but I will try to help him, if not we know you will.

Welcome to our 2 new coaches for 2012, and a bit of an introduction for the class of 2011:

Dream team: Obsesive compulsive disorder when it comes to Melbourne players taken early in their draft year. Wears number 4 on his jumper, has a picture of Colin Sylvia's arms in his wallet, and may still hold out hope that Trav Johnston will resurrect his career at the dees.

Jackliveshere: Accepts the blame for last year's debacle after choosing number 31 for his jumper. Is considering number 10 for next year. Genuinely believes, and has so for many years, that Mitch Clark is the greatest player in the game.

DRAFT LOTTERY

We’re changing the way we pick the draft order this year. For reasons too many to mention here we are holding a draft lottery system to decide the order in which the first round of the draft will be selected. Like last year the order of the second round will be the reverse of the first, the third reversed again and so on.

· You may place a bid on any of the 18 first round picks you would like to have in the draft.

· The number of bids you have is based on where you finished last year (see table)

· If you have multiple bids you can place them on a single pick, or spread them across several picks.

Once everyone has submitted their bids I will compile them into their 18 buckets (18 picks), each bucket will have multiple bids in it. And so we will begin the lottery.

· Starting at bucket 1 (pick 1) I will draw 1 bid out. The name I draw out will get pick 1 in the draft.

· I repeat the process for pick 2, 3 and so on until everyone has been assigned a pick.

A few technical issues you don’t need to know but might like to know.

· You may only be assigned one pick in the first round, meaning if I pick your name out a second time it will be ignored. (you can’t have multiple picks in the first round)

· If I come across a bucket without a bid, that pick will be assigned to the lowest available player on table below (ie. worst performing team from last year)

· If you do not submit your bids to me on time all your bids will be placed into one pick associated with the reverse finishing order from last year.

Had to guess a bit with the finishing position from last year but here is my table listing the number of bids each coach has:

DL 7: 1 bid

Dappa: 1 bid

JCB: 1 bid

Jackattack: 1 bid

Range rover: 2 bids

Robbo: 2 bids

Jako: 2 bids

HT: 2 bids

45HG: 3 bids

OMR: 3 bids

Rpfc: 3 bids

SnomeD: 3 bids

Dream team: 3 bids

Jack liveshere: 3 bids

Mad Melbourne: 3 bids

Eth: 3 bids

Scarlett: 3 bids

Devoted: 3 bids

PM the bids you would like to place.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
