UNDERACHIEVERS

No surprises.

No 1 Colin Sylvia

No 9 Cale Morton

Congrats guys. Pull your fingers out.

where is ellis, tambling, gumbleton, masten, myers?

IMO the only true underachievers on that list are Sylvia, Tippett, Waite and Pearce. The others have been crap since entering the AFL. Sylvia shows his brilliance (36 possies, 4 goals in a losing side against Hawks) then dishes up lazy efforts.

Good way to push up their value if they (Sylvia and Morton) are leaving and/or give them a rocket for next year if they are not. Also, outlines a good question for our prospective coach, i.e. "what would you do to get the best out of Sylvia and Morton?"

Draft selection doesn't always reflect talent or potential, some clubs simply get it wrong.

The most frustrating thing about Sylvia is that I see a player who has big muscles, is a good height, strong hands, quick and has talent to burn. Then I look at someone like Dane Swan who waddles with tiny legs, is a bit chubby in the guts and has OK skills. Yet, the player that gets the ball more, uses it better and runs all day isn't Sylvia.

This list is far from concrete. I agree that Morts and Sylvia possesses the skill to become elite, but one could argue there are another 15-20 current players who could make that list.

Just another BS article that isn't worth the paper it is printed on.

Fantastic comparison. The only thing that gets me with Sylvia is that he only gives one effort so if that one effort is good enough he looks great but more often than not it's not enough. I don't want to lose his talent so I'm hoping our new coach demands more of Col and gets more out of him.

A good response by Sylvia today. He's shown what he's capable of and reminded the doubters of his potency.

Has Viney gotten throught to him or was it this article?

Disappointed Flash had another shocker.

Why would you put Butcher on that list after his first two games? It makes you look stupid!!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
