Finals

I back us to beat Richmond, Gold Coast and Port. But 10.5 wins will not be enough.

To make finals we'll have to beat one of Geelong, Carlton, Hawthorn and Wet Toast. Which is fair enough, because if you lose to all 4 finals teams you probably don't deserve to be in the finals.

Some really good tests for us in the next 4 weeks. really great chance to see whether we've taken another step up from last season

Big Test for the coach and all the assistants as well. Our Finals series really starts today.

In order for us to make the finals, if that is indeed the aim in what is still a development year for the club, we need to win games not only against teams we're expected to beat but also to win against at least one of the top four aspirants we're due to play in the four week block after the Port Adelaide game. I don't believe that under our current set up we can win any of those games but I reckon we should have a crack at it by tweaking the makeup of the team. I don't think this will happen for Saturday night's game in the tropics but I can see possibilities for an attack on Hawthorn should we win against Port.

I would agree with all this and add that if a fit and firing Davey can make is way back into the side and break through some presses with his speed and skill then that would make a big difference.

It's pretty simple to me. We should win the last three. Richmond are in a hole, Gold Coast are Gold Coast, and Port are rubbish and it's no long at AAMI.

That puts us on 10.5. With results going our way that could in fact be enough. It most likely won't, however (I don't think Fremantle beating Sydney helps us much either). So we'd most likely need another win. Which means we have to win one of the four matches coming up.

If we do that, and we do our job in winning the last three, we may well find ourselves in the finals.

Hi everyone first post! I've been looking forward to this stretch of the next 4 games for a while now. Facing off against teams 2nd-5th is a big test for the playing group and will give us a good idea of where we're at. Barring the draw against sydney i think our wins this year have come against poor/or underperforming teams, it will be interesting to see how our game stands up against 4 of the best defensive units in the comp. This next stetch of games is more important than beating richmond/gc/port because its a chance to build a lot of confidence and resilience in the playing group if we can remain competitive. While 10.5 wins could possibly get us into the finals, I'd like to see us win at least 1 of the next 4 games. I'd rather us earn a spot in the 8, or not make it at all

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
