You do not think footy is Tough today??? Granted not as many teeth get punched out today & yes it is a tad over officiated IMO but the attack on the ball is way tougher than it has ever been.

When Bodies collide in the modern game you hear the slam.

You keep blaming Rhino for twisting things to suit yourself. Only people who want to be seen to win an a piont of veiw,,,, rather than only trying to put their Ideas forward concisely so others canSee their picture.

Yes the game today jhas some tough footy, but our teams this century have not been... we have been the masters of the easy get out kick recieve from the back pocket since around 2002. it's been discussed adnausiem... and now Morton is still trying it amongst others.

When there's less floods and burst players due to the extra rotations,,, many players can become sitoff players letting others feed the ball out.. In the older game there's many more 'one on one' contests where the player simply had to beat his direct opponent. theres more places to hids today.

anyway I think it's a popular opinion that most people have a distaste for these floods, presses and congested footy, overworked interchange stewards running the turnstiles constantly,,,, that turns the game into handball and just rubbish footy for the most part. it breaks down the old fundementals of what is a Full Forward, & What is a Ruckmen, etc...

This is caused directly by the ability to have so many players immediately arounfd the ball. Handball.. Baketball,, Rugby,, Netball... Soccer.. It's destroying the Originality of our Australian game & I for one want to return to how we played the game 10 years ago.

I am not twisting any point of view around to suit myself... I am merely answering your posts.

You wish the game to go backwards 10 years to have more one on one footy, I am saying that will not happen.

One on One footy may look great to the spectator, but it is 50/50 as to whether the kicking side will keep possession..Fact.

Modern today Football is all about Speed, numbers & Keep Possession of the ball.

The Flood i am not a fan of, The Forward Press is fine-Goals are still being kicked.

If you wish Footy to go back 10 years i suggest you go to the Movies during MFC games because the reality is, it won't happen..

Bit Like me wishing the Local Record Shop still had all my favourite Rolling Stones Records in the racks for sale!! Nice thought and great memories---but them days are long gone.

Modern today Football is all about Speed, numbers & Keep Possession of the ball. Modern day football is about stopping the opposition using the ball well, at all costs

The Flood i am not a fan of, The Forward Press is fine-Goals are still being kicked. I don't like either & they're both about the negatives of the game, like stopping elite players shining. The defending side of modern tactics is flourishing because of the rotations available to allow ground coverage... (Less space)

If you wish Footy to go back 10 years i suggest you go to the Movies during MFC games because the reality is, it won't happen.. (Again your words) ... I think thats rubbish as the AFL have already shown they're hand in what they want to happen, & it needs a little more to tweak it.

HaHaHa, isn't that Ironic as they do still have records and widely available and I'm currently stocking up on Vinyl and valve amp system. It's fantstic, so is my uprated CD/DVD collection thru the Valves... There ya go!

Some people are buying Harley's, some are Hotting up Cars, some are looking to trade up their partners, some are making Seachanges and Tree changes, and some are stuck where they were 20 Years ago and don't like change at all.

Fair Enough DL, but if you do not like the defensive side of the game....The answer is to actually get better at attacking...not to revert to old rules, however romantic that sounds.

Yes i am looking at buying a new Turntable, i still have about 400 albums in my bookcase that deserve some more listens!!

I do like the defensive side of the game, but Not what it's bacome now. I always admired Bosusto with his tackling pressure as a half foraward,,, but hate nringing these Over seas type presses into our game. Only happened due to the Extra rotations combined with suprerior fitness from recent sports science achievements.

It's the same as Golfs Graphite Shafts and Titanium Headed drivers and Square Grooved Irons. the New technology started to ruin the sport as the courses were effectively made to Play shorter, ruining the layouts and Bunker positions, etc...

Baseball, metal Bats destroyed the game as everone was hitting that much further.

Swimming, the suits were making old world records into a mockery as the suits were so much an advantage.

F1, the aerodynamics for many Years almost made it impossible to pass, destroying the Nature of competition. They're working on this still today to try to sort it out. Now we have tyres designed to wear quicker, to cause pitstops.

We can't and shouldn't stop the concepts of improving fitness and knowledge of the Body, BUT we should stop the things that destroy the evenness of the competition and destroy the enjoyment of it.... And they're trying to fixit...

Say hello to running, weight-lifting and the like. They're some of the only sports not bastardised by new technology.

The Human Being will always work out ways to be more efficient, it's in the DNA. Personally i just sit back and watch the coaches to see what they come up with

Yes i do miss the old CHB/CHF Battles or Wingman on Wingman but evolution can never stand still

Blame Robert Walls...He bought in the first Huddle...That was when the traditional positions were first becoming redundant.

Strategies and technology are not always a problem that needs to be rectified, but when they effectively make the playing arena TOO small, and we're already on one of the biggest playing surfaces in world sport,,, then It is a Big problem...Growing the game OS is a concern because the large grounds are hard to find space for and in developed countries the Pay for so many sportsmen would be an issue...22 being better than 25...

None of the congestion has caused such a problem, IMO, than this latest one. And it's boring as well.

Sports have always had the need for handicaps and rules and regulations, and they change on an as needs basis.

The changes we made in good faith when starting an interchange bench,,, and then increasing the No's on that bench, where very different in those days and Now changes have happened that makes it important to adjust it again.

Sure i agree. But you make more rule changes now or revert some rules and they will be once again challenged and exploited within 2 years. Human nature dictates that.

If your lost in the Bush, and your on the wrong track, once you realise you can go cross country, Or go back to where you made the mistake and take a better thought out route. If it's a small issue, go cross country. If it's a more structural one, Go Back.

Edit, spelling, geez my typing/spelling's getting bad.

David Suzuki would listen to that but i doubt the AFL would....this corporate giant is too big now....

DL and WYL, either of you catch the Footy Show last night, reference Sam Newman's strategy for the EJ Whitten game that he's coaching in?

No i missed it Mate, what was said?

Was quite amusing for Sam I must say.

As we all know, Sam is a critic of the 'modern' game.

He laid down some rules.

1. Find one player and stay with them.

2. No more than 2 handballs in a row then you must kick it.....long.

3. Any player kicks a behind and they're benched.

He then said that he isn't concerned about rule 3 when players kick from a tough angle because there will be no tough angles BECAUSE THEY'LL BE GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE.

Probaby sounds very unfunny it text but was quite amusing at the time.

i look forward to his tactics...I do remember that game.

I don't know if he has much choice though. Don't know if many of the players played any other style.

They wouldn't be fit enough to run all night anyway....maybe they should be made too run. Now that would be Quality TV

Would certainly be worth watching if Archer plays on Carey.

absolutely....my money is on Arch.

No i had it on in the background, but mostly it's lost it's Edge. Not enough football content. what did they say?

Ah,,, It really is a simple game with Stars playing it... Or it was once.

Thats the answer to it, Make the players get 9 to 5 jobs...

To those who sidetracked this thread from the intent of its original post, 'you can run, but you can't hide'.

Oh please Bailey is the coach for 2011.

Lets get over it, lets win some games in the next two months and worry about it then.

The subject is almost as boring as "will Scully stay"

Both might be boring but bpoth absolutely crucial

What's the rush? We have a coach. We can find a "manager" if necessary at any time. Dime a dozen! It's the FD and Cattle who do the job!

I agree- let's just settle down and win the next 3 games and at years end let the club work out both Scully & Bailey's future.

*creates yet another paranoid thread on Tom Scully/Dean Bailey/inconsistency/premiership hopes

I'm with OD and JCB.

No need to rush this. Let's do this at the end of the season.

Agree with all the above

Who says Bailey won't be coach in 2012..?

LOL

Oh and why pay 2 people to do one job? Oh thats right we are a rich club we can afford to payout our coach for the year and contract someone else as caretaker and then not to mention any breach of contract penalties we may have pay out.

He is contracted till the end of the season decide then.

My day in this forum would not be complete with out finding a Chicken Little post. now I can sleep lol

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
