20 – Colin Garland

Was our best defender before getting injured. His loss has been made worse by the fact there has been no suitable replacements. Will be a welcome addition when fit again.

Grade – B

21 – Lucas Cook

VFL- haven’t seen him play

22 – Brent Moloney

Very good when we are winning. Could possibly have 12 Brownlow votes. However Brent has gone missing badly when he are losing and need him most. Some say he needs Jamar, I say he’s a front runner

Grade – C

24 – Liam Jurrah

Has kicked what could only be described as the laziest 26 odd goals ever. Jurrah hasn’t been overly exciting but has still managed to kick goals. He plays a lot better when flying for marks and he hasn’t done this for a while. He could be anything but so far this year he’s been near on nothing

Grade – C

27 – Jared Rivers

How do you judge him? When he plays the role his best at he has been sensational. When he is forced to play key position he is badly shown up. He is very important to our side but needs Garland back to free him up.

Grade – B-

28 – Joel MacDonald

Somewhat of a forgotten man for most of the season so far. Dropped after round 1, dominated Casey and has come back in and provided the hardness we need. It can be frightening when the ball is in his hands but he has the confidence and experience we need down back.

Grade – C+

31 – Tom Scully

Only played two games but was in the the top 3 both times. He is going to be a superstar of the AFL. It looks unlikely we’ll keep him but we should move heaven and earth trying to

Grade – B

33 – Ausin Wonaemirri

Lets be entirely honest here. Besides kicking a few goals in 2008 ‘Aussie’ has done nothing.

Grade - All things considered it is hard to grade Aussie fairly.

34 – Stefan Martin

Most improved player by a mile. Casey reserves last year and now dominating in the ruck. Jamar’s injury could be a blessing in disguise as Martin improved every week. Hopefully we don’t lose him…

Grade – A

35 – Luke Tapscott

We finally got to see Tapscott and he didn’t disappoint. Tough as they come he sets a standard for teammates. Has shown he’ll be a very good player. Would love to see his long kicking used up forward.

Grade – B

36 – Aaron Davey

The most disappointing player on our list, bar none! Gets tagged and can’t cope. Either play him forward or get rid of him.

Grade – F

37 – Max Gawn

Thrown into the big time out of necessity and wasn’t too bad. Obviously not ready for AFL but at least he’s had a taste

Grade – D

38 – Jeremy Howe

Looks very good. Strong mark, good decision maker and doesn’t back out of contests. He’s only played 2 games but he looks to be ahead of Bate, Dunn etc.

Grade – C+

39 – Neville Jetta

I have a massive soft spot for Jetta. Tough as nails and makes every tackle stick. Unfortunately he makes some terrible decisions and his skills lets him down. He needs to improve on this.

Grade – D

40 – Mark Jamar

Was our most important player before going down. Will be interesting to see how he and Martin work together. Hopefully Jamars input doesn’t decrease.

Grade – A

41 – Troy Davis

VFL – unseen

42 – Jake Spencer

VFL – knee injury

43 – Tom McDonald

VFL – unseen

44 – Rohan Bail

Came from nowhere to be a best 22 player. Runs harder than anybody and is tough as nails. We desperately need him back as he is our #1 tagger and this will release McKenzie more.

Grade – B+

46 – Sam Blease

VFL – unseen

47 – James Strauss

Been very impressive in the last two weeks. He looks very comfortable at half back and I’m excited by what he’s doing. Has come a long way since round 1 and 2 last year

Grade – B

48 – Jack Fitzpatrick

VFL – unseen

Rookies

Michael Evans – Has been given a taste. Can definitely find the footy, he just can’t kick. This will come and he will be a very good player.

Daniel Nicholson – James McDonald mkII? Unlucky to be sub both games. If given a full game there is no doubt he will show us what he can do. Tackles hard, runs hard, team player. Should be given more games.

Michael Newton- His chance to prove he could play another year was in the last few weeks. Unfortunately for him he got injured once again. I am a Juice fan, (probably the only one) but I think his time is up

Melbourne FC –

People are disappointed with our season yet we are still within striking distance of the 8. In previous years we would be happy with this result. I read into this that we have improved and there will be continued improvement.

Beating Essendon on the Friday night stage was a huge step forward for Bailey and the club. Our next 4 games are winnable and we should finish with 10.5 wins this season. Anything more is a success, anything less is a failure.

Moloney got a C and Strauss got B?

Moloney has been an A. I've never been a fan of the 'down-hill ski-er' term, i.e. Only doing well when the team is winning. The team was only winning in large part BECAUSE moloney was playing well.

Strauss has played two games and I would rate him around a B for both of those games. Moloney has played 11 games. I would give him A+ for 4 games, B for another and then E for the rest.

stopped reading once I saw Maloney with a C, that is totally wrong. He would comfortably be winning our B&F this year.

If the best and fairest was awarded purely on games we won then yes he would be winning. Unfortunately he has been very average in losses

Bit harsh on Wonna. Yes, the North game wasn't his best, but as a small forward he has been solid in his other games. He's obviously going through a lot at the moment, but I definitely wouldn't write him off.

Spot on.

lol someone agreed with me

But on another note, I was one of few that backed up Stef Martin at every stage. So many on here wanted to ditch him. Always had talent. And i was right on Bate from the outset. Too slow and awkward kick.

Dunn won't get cut. He is a very dangerous forward on song and has natural aggression. Something we need

Where there's smoke there's fire. In football politics not a truer sentence can be said.

Instead of fire, I think it is Gubby Allen on a chair with a match up to the fire alarm...

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers braved the rain and headed down to Gosch's paddock to bring you their observations from the second day of Preseason training for the 1st to 4th Year players. DITCHA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I attended some of the training today. Richo spoke to me and said not to believe what is in the media, as we will good this year. Jefferson and Kentfield looked big and strong.  Petty was doing all the training. Adams looked like he was in rehab.  KE

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
