the first thing to say is that there aren't as many as there were 5-10 years ago, Burt here are mine/

Cameron Meyer (international track and road cyclist): four world championships and the likelihood of up to five gold medals in London speak for itself

Steve Hooker: world and Olympic pole vault champion.

Emma Snowsill: Olympic Women's trialthlete champion

Cadel Evans: last years cycling road world champion and two times runner up in Le Tour.

Anna Meares: two time current world track cycling champion and Olympic gold medalist

Mark Webber: leading such a high profile sport as Formula One for much of last year and having a verygood chance this year speaks for itself

4000 meter cycle pursuit team

Men's Hockey Team

Opals Women's Badketball Team

Tim Cahill: socceroo

Women's soccer team

Luke Borbridge: world record holder in 4000m individual pursuit cycling and a likely future Grand Tour Winner

Mark schwartzer: regarded by many as the best soccer goalkeeper in the world

Geoff Ogilvy: consistently in golf's top ten

Sam Stozer: currently the number 5 ranked Women's tennis player in the world

? Samuels: world Women's shot put champion

After that I struggle.

Any additions would be welcomed.....

WJ, you know the men (Kookaburra's) have been far more prominent than the Hockeyroos (Girls).... . World Champions, etc...

Stephanie Gilmore deserves top spot upon all these lists.

George Sotiropoulos deserves a spot too- toughest sport in the world and has only lost one fight out of 16 professional bouts (lost one, dq another)- won his last 7 fights in the UFC (throw in a couple more for the TUF series, loss came after receiving a finger in the eye) and had it not been for the fact he is in an ultra-competitive weight class could easily be current light weight champion of the world.

Special mention for most courageous sportperson; Anna Mears. Champion stuff, coming back from the brink like that, was truly moved after her Comm games performance!

I think you mean Andrew Bogut.

Geez, not much love for any cricketers on here. How quickly they have gone downhill.

Dont know about too many sports but Tim Cahill would definately top my list.

Two glaring omissions for me are Mick Fanning - two time surfing world champion and one of the toughest competitors, and Casey Stoner - previous world champion, won first race of the season and was taken out by ill conceived manoeuvre from Rossi in the second. Also couldn't agree more with nostradeemus. Stephanie Gilmore has won 4 world surfing championships from 4 attempts. I'd venture there is currently no-one in any sport in the world with such a successful strike rate.

Bogut is king. He is one of our best.

Special Mention to Patty Mills who is making a name for himself as a strong reserve at the Blazers. With some luck he may get a starting gig at a ball club

Melbournes own David Andersen is in his 2nd NBA season as a mature age rookie. Nothing special but deserves a mention for breaking into a sport that we as a nation are not that passionate about.

Peter Moylan is still kicking on as a relief pitcher for the Braves. He is solid.

Plenty of good Aussie talent out there.

Salute to Jason Day, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy who gave it their best shot at the Masters.

Yes great effort. Day & Scott would have enjoyed walking down the last together having been friends since 15 years of age.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
