Aaaand some sanity in the NFL again.

Broncos and Patriots against current good opposition manage to roll them handsomely. Saints win, albeit luckily. Chargers humiliate Jets... San Francisco beat Chiefs... All is well in football again.

Just looking now at the best records in the NFL. Only Philly, Dallas and Chargers are on 4-1.... And I gotta say the Eagles, while ahead on divisional record in the NFC East, might be the third best side in their own division. What a hopelessly mediocre game. Right now it's only luck and special teams keeping their heads above water... And their schedule:

Giants @Cards @Texans Panthers... Yikes. Could easily lose all four on current form.

Meanwhile Cowboys have:

@Seahawks then all home games....Giants Skins Cards

Can someone please tell me why I didn't choose a decent NFL team.. I was sucked in by the falcons fluke 2012 season. I started following NFL to escape the frustration and anger that comes with following melbourne.. Is it too late to find a new team ?

Depends who you're jumping ship to... lol

Wow the jets are in a deep hole. Just no offense at all. The bills baby! I enjoy seeing them win. Seriously who could dislike Buffalo? Detroit couldn't kick a FG all day. With Chicago and the vikes losing as well Green Bay must be smiling. I still think San Fran won't make the playoffs. Just a hunch though. Bloody Dallas find a way to win. It's hard to admit but they are a little under rated. I hope Philly can put them back where they belong. Is Peyton the best regular season QB of all time?

The good thing about the NFL is it can turn around very quickly. You have talent in Atlanta. You also have injuries. Keep the faith and always remember you could be following the jets and demons. That is a deadly cocktail of sport right there.

Still no points to allocate in the tipping comp (otherwise known as ... "Intolerable Cruelty" - the sequel) Cinci put most of us out.

No change in the points tally ...

1 - Dappa Dan

0 - Anyone who can still be bothered.

Week 6 games - can someone please tip 3 winners? Otherwise we might have to make it the home teams for a week!! It does look a little easier next week, all the same.

No real surprises in today's games and Dappa summed up things quite well in the above post ... as for tomorrow's game, I give Washington a sneaky chance but Seattle should be too strong ... Seahawks 31 Washington 24.

After watching quite an average Rams v Eagles game I'm hoping today's is better.

Eagles special teams and defence were decent, their offence average with Foley throwing some stupid passes (half which came off).

For us, I think they tried to up the offence early and Davis didn't do great, but in the last quarter and s bit where we went to a more simplified game plan we stack on 21 unopposed points. In he last 2 mins Pettis dropped to catches that were first downs and we lose by 6. Didn't deserve to win, but could have stolen it.

We miss Long.

Oh joy, the niners on MNF.

I hate sport.

Why do I continually follow clubs that disappoint me on a weekly basis.

Melbourne...fukked, season over round one

Rams... Fukked, season over round four

Bolton... Fukked, season over from round one, manager already sacked, we then lose to a ten man team who had a player sent of 30 mins into the game FFS.

Baltimore

Denver

San Diego

Let's see if my tipping curse can knock a couple of AFC West rivals off!

Week 6 tips ...

Denver

San Diego

San Francisco

Anyone not tipping:

Denver

San Diego (always classy)

Can't settle on a third tip. Can't go against my Browns (AFC team, getting on the bandwagon early) after they came through for me last week, can't tip NE, Baltimore or SF and I don't want to ruin Thursday night football!

Green Bay (if I jinx them it's still a win!)

Indy

Green Bay

Denver

Davis was all over Foles in that game. Eagles very lucky to be where they are at the moment. The hype is correct in this case. I think if they're gonna get back to steady the ship it basically HAS to be the Pass rushers, Cole, Graham and Curry picking up. I can't see improvement anywhere else.

Oops. Forgot to do my picks for this week before TNF...

I'm gonna go the safe options.

Patriots, Packers and Broncos.

JJ watt has more TD's then megatron.

Your special teams have been amazing tho.

Once again, the TV games ... I like Buffalo at home and the Eagles/Giants game could be a barnburner.

Which makes the rest of the NFC East breathe a big sigh of relief. There's no way they're gonna keep running in 2 TDs a week cos of special teams play.

If he continues his current form I hope he wins MVP. We've seen what Peyton does. Russ Wilson is having a solid year and plays well in big moments but he hasn't been exceptional. Rivers has but he's a gifted experienced pocket passer doing his thing. It's nothing knew. And of course we've seen players like Watt before but it's time for him to win the MVP, especially considering how bad Houston are when he's not involved.

Who picks the 7mate games. NE at Buffalo, good call, should be somewhat close if Buffalo can bring their defense and all that was wrong with the Pats offense isn't fixed in a week, plus it's a divisional contest.

But Washington at Arizona is the worst of the 3 games I think. Chicago at Atlanta would be interesting to see who keeps their season alive and Dallas v Seattle is clearly the pick of the 3 later games.

GMMM... Good point, however, they USUALLY put on Denver. And as much as they're like the Hawks of the NFL.... a good advertisement for the game... I'm dead set bored of them.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
