They choked Macca. Deal with it

Choking indicates hesitancy or freezing at critical moments ... I didn't see any of that

However,  I was at Waverley for the Prelim final in '87 - now that was choking!

What I did see today was a team that was out of sync in conditions that were tough for both sides. Plus, the 49ers came to play with a real plan in place ... their defence was as good as I've seen this season.  Bring that again and Goroppolo can be used in a non-risky way

But hey, I can give as good as I get ... and no team will be spared

This thread could easily turn into a bar-room brawl if we're all going to throw barbs

Be careful what you wish for BDA!

A strong argument could be had that the Packers wouldn't even be close to the playoffs without Rodgers, Dave

The organisation known as the Green Bay Packers lost to the 49ers in those 4 playoff games. Not Rodgers alone

Rodgers carries the team on his back but there lies the problem ... why is that so and why is it allowed to happen?

If the team had strong leadership and strong coaching, Rodgers would be used for team purposes only.  But again, would Aaron cop that?  I doubt it

Reckon Rodgers might be on the move after today's loss ... he nearly left last year as it was

Looking ahead, the team needs to have an all round focus (like the Patriots) but that thinking is difficult to attain.  Especially coming from a gunslinger QB type of game plan

Be careful of what

You’re a good poster and analyst Macca. But you drift into  condescension which really gets up my nose

With less the 5 mins on the clock your special team allows a punt block on the goal line for the touchdown. The 49ers never looked like scoring a TD for the whole game and you gifted them one to keep them alive. They conceded penalties in the red zone. Garoppolo threw a dumb pick in the red zone. They couldn;t make a short 4th down and short in the red zone. They could be there still and they wouldn't score a TD

After you gifted the the TD you then do nothing on your last possession, give the ball back, allow them to move the ball down the field, burn the clock and kick the winning FG

That’s a choke by anyone’s definition Macca

Enjoy the rest of your evening

Ha ha!

Cowboys!!  What a bunch of losers ... now there is a team that knows how to choke!

In fact, did the word choke derive from the Dallas Cowboys organisation?

Was a very scrappy game at Lambeau,  as is to be expected with the frigid conditions. Special teams ended up being the difference.

The niners first 11 offensive plays went for -10 yards,  yet somehow we went in at the break only a single score down.  The offence finally found a bit of rhythm in the second half,  but Jimmy G still didn't end up with a TD. At least he started hitting Kittle and Deebo more often,  and we managed to quieten the cheese heads.

It was ugly, but it was winning ugly so I'll take that, that's 0-4 for Rodgers in play off's against the niners  now, onward to the NFC championship game!

Unbelievable, we were down and out with the wind squarely in our faces (literally too because it was bloody cold).

I really don’t know how to analyse that game and what happened to be honest. Packers came out barnstorming on offense but then committed to the run which was getting reasonable results. I felt like we could get lit up with Rodgers-Adams at any moment but I think we did a good job in coverage even without Ambrey Thomas.

I don’t know if I’d say GB or Aaron choked. Our special teams made 2 big plays. Take those away and GB win I say. If anyone is a choker though it’s Jimmy G, on a winning side :p

Seriously, a hand goes up and connects with a punt and that's choking?  Happens every day of the week in numerous games.  I'd more call it dumb luck for the recipient team

Go back and have a look at the replay ... that play happens another 20 times and there's no connection with the hand

Who's your team?

And for what it's worth, the Titans didn't choke either ... they're simply not all that good (much like the Packers) and lost a close one against a team that isn't great either (Bengals)

So does every team that loses a game become chokers for the day?  If so, there's a hell of a lot of choking going on

But when it comes to the Cowboys, they are the choking kings

We are far too undisciplined. Most penalised team in the league. dumb penalty after dumb penalty. Very frustrating. We wouldn't have won in Green Bay today though. The Packers have the wood on us

You guys didn;t turn up today. I was sure you would win. The 49er's are not a strong team. A stout defence and a freak of nature in Deebo Samuel is not enough to go any further. I reckon the old master, Mr Brady will account for them next week

They've copped it for decades now (as underachievers)

They'll never win big again as long as Jerry Jones is in charge.  And the old boy has got at least another decade in him!

He could even run BigD from the grave!

Where we disagree is the choke label ... the Packers certainly didn't play well I'll grant you that.

But again, for a long time now (at least 5 years here on this thread) I've been banging on about the unhealthy reliance on Rodgers.  DeeSpencer first pointed the issue out 7 or 8 years ago (on this thread) ... he's a Bears fan

We keep getting found out and it's usually from teams that defend well

Ironically, the Packers defence was the best part of our game today.

By the Packers own standards, our offense was well below par ... we win by scoring heavily but today we only scored 10 points.

And that ain't gonna get it done

One long pass to Jones was the highlight but there are often a stack of connected long passes (not today)

And in the playoffs, that reliance on that sort of play is flawed.  So it was another accident waiting to happen in my view

A really strong running game with multiple avenues and it's a different story.  And a Gronk type?  Green Bay don't do that

I'm only firing back in kind layzie ... mind you, 2 new-arrival cowboys here could well liven the joint up (we need more than just a tipping comp ... bit too quiet)

Truth is I like watching Dallas play as there is nearly always some sort of caveat attached to most of their games

They are a headline act and box office (America's team?)

And Dak is a real talent

They definitely choked and Rodgers should take a lot of the blame. Who are they going to blame now? Defense? Coaching panel? Had home field, week off. They kicked the bucket, plain and simple. Glad they're gone.

By the way, I kept joking to my Cowboys friends that if we were somehow able to trade Jimmy for Dak Prescott during the week I would have made it happen lol.

You're in the NFC Championship game and anything can happen from here on in ... today the game at Lambeau was turned on its head with a blocked punt.

If that hand goes up 15 centimetres to the left or right the conversation may well be a lot different now

That's the sport sometimes but the 49ers were the better team today anyway.  Packers had their chances and didn't execute

As for Jimmy, you could win 2 more games without him being a big factor but I thought his 2nd half today was quite good anyway

But your defence is the key ... you've now gone on the road twice and beaten Dallas & Green Bay with a stellar, superior defence in both games

And defence wins championships!

Demons won in 2021 with the best defence in the league ... 3 years earlier our defence was led up by Oscar & Frosty

The 49ers are in with a show

Tampa or Rams?  Which team do you prefer to play?

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
