Low scoring game. Bears D is tops again...

Really liking how Rodgers is moving. Not much happening score wise, but he's moving laterally well. Just the O line not great Bears D line incredible.

Seems they do now. Should be an exciting win for them. Chicago was arguably the best defense last year, Rodgers was under pressure the whole time. So he can only play better. Meanwhile all those weapons on offense for Bears and they couldn't get a single TD... Bodes well for the Pack. Big upside.

Trubisky will be the story but I'm not as concerned about him as the whole offense.

The rough start was due to the Packers defense just balling and terrible play calling, both of which continued for most of the night.

After the start he had a number of big plays miss by inches. Robinson shoved out of bounds early before the catch down the right side, commentators don't even mention it. The deep ball just missing the 2nd foot/just landing out of bounds to Gabriel. The offensive PI to Gabriel which is always going to be paid - especially after a stupid challenge that robs the game of momentum (such a terrible rule, wonder if it was a tactical challenge) - but had no bearing on the play, the defender was always having the ball sail over his head, Gabriel only puts hands on to balance, oh well. Then Trubisky makes a great throw under pressure to the RB near the goal line and it hits the Packers defenders trailing arm in a total fluke, ball would've been inside the 2. Then his tight end drops a simple out. O line was bad and run game never got moving. Penalties penalties penalties for all sorts of crap, some on the QB but a lot on the team.

Pretty much Nagy was missing his TE (weakest spot on the roster as well as the most important position in this and many other schemes) and has just shat the bed trying to get creative plays over the middle. A bad QB and a coaching crap show but credit to the Packers defense and a lot of easy improvement for the Bears to at least get a functioning offense which Trubisky can do.

Thanks Dappa

Got a lot of catching up to do as I saw nothing of the game and only heard bits & pieces of the 2nd half via tunein radio.

Always pleasing to defeat a true rival especially at Soldier Field.  In the whole scheme of things that's a big win.  We might just be a contender after all (with the new coach).

We've got a kind draw in the first half of the season so no excuses.  Eagles come to Lambeau 27th Sept (GF eve Oz time)

Packers D was solid, Savage looks fantastic.

Bears D is immense.

Rodgers just did Rodgers things and they won the game. Packers now have 5 of their next 6 at home only traveling to the Cowboys. They could be heading 8nto the second half of the season pretty much guaranteed playoffs.

Unbelievable. 24 hours before he's ready to go... then this.

Had a mate mention a wacky thought... Apparently Steelers wouldn't trade him to pats, and this might have been how he orchestrated things to get out of Raiders once he realised they're a basket case.

Or the plan was to end up at Pats from the get-go.  Player acquisitions happen by hook or by crook.  And the Pats often end up getting what they want (or need)

You've got to play the long game in a league where parity exists.  Nothing surprises me these days Dappa.

Not a bad first half from the Rams. Two blunders in the last 2 mins after our second FG cost us a FG.

McVay using a time out trying to get the ball back with under a min to go actually benefited the Panthers. And rushing 4 on a long giving them a big gain and moving the sticks.

Goff has looked good at times, rusty at others. Gurley looks pretty free moving, they are def managing his game time.

D has looked great, big plays, 3 sacks, 2 turnovers. Donald has been double teamed nigh on every snap which has allowed Fowler to sack Newton twice and Matthews got him the other.

Newton looks slimmer to me.

Weedle got ko’ed which hurts. He is our D play caller.

Well off to work soon, so will watch second half when I get home.

Second half we really made things hard for ourselves.

And right when we intercept the ball and run it back to the 18 yard line, Peters then taunts after the play, backs us up 15yrs, we then miss the FG from 43.

For a good player, he does a heap of dumb [censored].

Well the Pats will take some beating.

clinical vs the Steelers. I think other than a Brady injury they are already in the AFC championship game.

Belichick will probably find a way to bring Antonio Brown into line as well.

They're odds on again to feature prominently.  Most here on this thread support NFC teams so the Pats aren't really a threat until the SB.  And even if a NFC team does have to play the Pats in season that same team gets to play the Jets,  Bills and the Dolphins because of how they do the scheduling.

So if you're any good it's 3 wins and 1 loss and you might strike the Pats at home.  But they can well & truly stay in the AFC!

Interesting first week of NFL ... any number of teams showed a bit too.  And a number of teams got the job done as expected.

My standout are the Patriots in the way they just dismantled the Steelers.  Early doors with regards to the other contenders.  Although nearly all the other challengers won.

The Browns were disappointing after all the hype but the AFC North is up for grabs.

2 points on offer this week.  I'll post up the lines and Bill Simmons podcast preview tomorrow evening.   Friday's game sees the Panthers @ Tampa Bay (Divisional match-up)

It would sure take some beating. Very good game to watch with an epic ending.

Unbelievable... So glad I held off checking the scores & watched the condensed version on game pass. Divisional rival winning in that fashion did [censored] me off though

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
