Hammers lose at home to Bournemouth, Demons smashed and I'm greeted with the Nelson news first thing this morning.

Ugh ugh ugh!

I got Bolton, Rams and Dees...

With the season opener not to far away, I'm going to kick off my predictions for the divisional winners:

AFC East- Patriots

AFC North- Steelers

AFC South- Colts

AFC West- Cheifs

NFC East- Philly

NFC North- Packers

NFC South- Saints

NFC West- Seattle

AFC Winner - Colts

NFC Winner- Packers

I'll have go as well in time JV7 but I reckon you're close to the mark ... not sure on my Packers but not just because of the Nelson injury (we should be able to cover for him to a reasonable extent) ...much will depend on how hungry the group is after bombing out the way we did against the Seahawks.

There's always a few teams that come out of nowhere and this year will probably be no different ... other fancied teams drop away inexplicably. I'm intrigued with what Rex will do with Buffalo whilst the Panthers and your team in your division will make it tough for the Saints. The Ravens are another team to watch and who knows what will happen with Denver & Peyton.

As usual, the NFC East will an interesting division to watch as will the NFC West. Depending on how much the Vikings improve, the NFC North could be a real bunfight between all 4 teams.

Yeah the Bills are an interesting one, what can rex do with them and add into the fact Brady is missing 4 games, opens the divison up a little bit. Yeah the NFC south will be a bit of lottery again, best of a bad lot i think. I'm pretty bullish about the colts this year, think Luck is ready to hit his straps... Might have a little bet on them at $11 for the SB.

Did mine, pretty much same JV7

Pats

Steelers

Colts

Chargers (no idea why... Might be smokin crack) - Chiefs should be favs tho.

Eagles

Packers - Vikings to really push them.

Panthers. Saints the danger

Rams. (If I didnt follow Rams I'd say Seattle)

New England

Baltimore

Indianapolis

Denver (?)

Dallas

Packers

Carolina

Seattle

Reckon I'll get at least 3 wrong and the Colts & Pats are my only lead-pipe locks.

Brady free to play in the season opener ...

Mike & Tony on PTI devote nearly the whole of the following episode discussing the matter ... Pardon the Interruption 3/9/15

Been thinking about how I think the Rams will go this year.

To be truthful, I see us third in our div again, I think the Seahawks and Cards are better than us.

We still have very average receivers, Foles will take a few weeks to get settled as our front line on offence is still average.

Building a strong run game, but Gurley won't play first few weeks, Mason has a hammy and Watts is suspended for 4 games.

I haven't seen much of the preseason but read as much as I could and think the Oline needs to open good running lanes and that's quite hard when they won't be caring about the receivers as much.. We will need to use Austin on quick passes to spread the D to make the run work if the Oline can't open the holes for the RB's early to make good years.

Oh, and we still suck on third downs.

I'm enjoying watching Hayne ply his trade for us on special teams (we should have him in on defensive special teams too, his gunning work looks OK), and he's learning at RB (positioning and blocking are still really poor though). I feel like being a 49ers fan is now the in thing for an Australian though, which is kind of annoying for someone like me who has been supporting them for years.

I think third is probably right, though there's no real shame in finishing third if it's behind Seattle and Arizona.

I think your defence will keep you in good stead and your schedule is OK, with the Redskins, 49ers twice, Bears, Browns and Bucs.

No shame, but with both the Rams and Dees not playing playoffs/finals for so bloody long I just want to be able to get excited about team for once :(

The season has come round real quick... Already planned in my annual sick day for the Falcons game. Good on Hayne for making the 53-man roster, although the Australian media and bandwagon supporters are already getting to me

Are we tipping again this year?

I'd like to canvas opinions here.... Would it be worth starting a quick NFL fantasy comp? I'm currently in 6 on NFL.com, and one on Yahoo.com... I have a lot of experience in them, knowing the good rules to have and ones to get rid of... If we get enough interest here, say ten guys/girls... (guys... let's be honest) we could start one?

If we can get enough starters (say 6 - 8+) I don't see why not

I'll post up the rules again in another post Dappa ... along with our 'Honour Board!'

Yeah mate, I'm in as long as it's not too time consuming.

Rules of the 'Demonland' NFL tipping competition ... (the same as last year except a couple more bonus weeks have been added)

* All participants get 3 picks only in any given week (but .. they must all be 'road' teams)

* Anyone who correctly tips all 3 winners from their 3 picks receives 1 point (any number of people can win a point in any given week)

* Bonus points are up for grabs in weeks 2, 5, 8, 10, 13 & 15 (2 points to all winners) whilst week 17 carries 3 points to any given winner.

* No margins or correct scores are required - just the straight winners.

* If you miss a week or come into the comp later on, there is no penalty. You just simply miss the chance to win points for that week or weeks. You can join in the comp at any time.

* Your tips must be in before the start of Monday's games (AEST) ... or before the Friday game if you include that game. All 3 tips must be included in your post (editing your tips is strictly forbidden :))

* The person (or persons) with the most points at the end of the regular season wins.

For those out there who just read this thread, feel free to join in the comp. It's just a bit of fun and we could do with a few more people on the thread anyway.

Last year's notable point scorers (regular season) ...

8 - Dappa Dan

7 - Georgiou R. R. Martin

4 - Gorgoroth

3 - JV7, Go the Biff, Macca

So get your tips in Ladies & Gents ... the season kicks off next Friday (our time) - Pittsburgh @ New England.

I'm in! A lot harder than you think too haha

Sweet. Lovely leaderboard work there Macca.

And yeah, if we start a league with any less than ten they just fill out the others with randoms, so it's very doable.

So far it's you and me Macca, if anyone else wants in message on here and I'll PM you. We've left it til late to by Wednesday night I would say we'd have to have a few names and can draft that evening. Drafts only take 20-30 minutes on yahoo and are perfectly simple, and easy to auto if you're not available.

Greetings Gorgoroth. Hope you're enjoying Nicky Franchise...

Just quickly gents, if you could specify what you're up for.... Fantasy NFL (draft based) and also Macca's all-famous tipping comp. Thanks.

  • Author

More like Ultimate footy. It's draft based. So usually 10 teams, you get 90 seconds to draft, and it reverses order every round. So if you have pick 3 in round 1 and take Eddie Lacy, you will get pick 18 in round 2 and take Megatron. You can set it in subtly different ways, but usually each team consists of a QB, 2 X WR, 2 X RB, 1 X TE, 1 X Kicker and 1 X Defensive team (you get points for sacks, interceptions, and lose points for points allowed and yards allowed)... So for example I'm in a league I joined last year, and I got Lynch with pick 9, Gronk with pick 12, Evans with pick 28, Cooks with pick 32... so on and so forth. If you're a bit confused by drafting, when you sign in on your account you can run any amount of mock drafts you like. They don't take long (timer is set quicker) and you learn a lot. I promise it's addictive and makes MFL that much more immersive and interesting.

The drafting program makes it easy. As long as you don't go guys like Nelson, Benjamin etc.... you can't miss. Where it's fun is your last 4 picks. Those are usually speculative and interesting.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
