Matchday thread vs Brisbane

Make that 20-4, Sylvia gets another free. 25 touches, 7 marks, 6 tackles, 3 frees for, 2 goals.

He won't be A grade, he'll be elite

THREE QUARTER TIME

Brisbane 7.6.48

Melbourne 10.8.68

Sylvia still on fire

Worst scoring qtr for a while. 1.3.9 to 3.1.19 We are in desperate need of a key forward!!

The key with Sylvia playing well midfielder not forward

We just need to get it together and break even in the last. Of course, going on the attack and running away to win by 40 would be good. We need to run them into the ground. They have injured players, so there's less bench to use. Make them work harder and they'll wilt.

Bah! Give me a dynamic, pressure set-up any day. That's where it's at.

EDIT: Let's not forget we're on the road, with a draw up our sleeves, needing to win three or more out of the next five. How much we win by is irrelevant, IMO.

DOUBLE EDIT: Colin Sylvia, AKA "The one thing Yze_Magic was ever right about."

Edited by Chook

Wona, Jurrah, Dunn and Bennel have gone massively missing!

Watts could stuff up wheaties!!!

Barty and Garland holding the backline

When was the last time you didn't go "hang on, who is Frawley playing on?"

Chip dominating a clearly injured Brown.

Not a great quarter but we stood firm against their run. With 2 on the bench we should run this game out. But what we should do and what we will do is a very different story.

Our forwards

Kicks only

Dunn 7 - 2 goals

Watts 6

Bennell 4

Aussie 3 - 1 goal

Green 10 - 2 goals

Apart from green we need more especially from the smalls in the wet

We are better when watts and bennel dont have the ball!

Mitch Clark shanks it.

Melbourne 10.8.68

Not true. Watts has had one of his best games tonight, but Bennell's had a bad one.

Chips (on Brown)doing well to but more defensive, the other are a bit more attacking

Mitch Clark had two opportunities to make it interesting

That's why Bartram's a defender, kick from 50 is out on the full :P

Well, at least we're not kicking like Sydney

22 scoring shots each, Geelong by 70

Come on Melbourne.

we need to get some better use of the ball. Should have brought trengove straight back in.

Brown kicks his second

Melbourne 10.8.68

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
