Bell and gysberts both named as the two most unlucky at selection table this wk..Both fighting for midfield positions in what has been our strongest midfield in many years. Interesting to see bell is now considered a midfielder or 'running back', could be what he needs??? Gysberts right on the verge would have played already in the past few years.

Fine. Just means they have to work harder

Thank God he has stopped thinking he was Aaron Sandilands!!

FFS, Bell has been nine years on the list as a midfielder/running back.

Yeah I forgot all the times he replaced a midfielder and got 30plus... the point I'm making is he's not being considered on the backline anymore yet he's as highly rated in the guts as gysberts

...yet he's as highly rated in the guts as gysberts

That might have something to do with his body development in comparison. Belly has always been well built. Another strong (and fast) body in the middle. Considering Jones and Moloney are slow, perhaps that is the clubs line of thinking?

"As highly rated in the guts as Gysberts".....by who ?

Bell has enough problems with awareness when he is down back. You're telling us that won't be a problem in the "guts" ?

Yeah, he's got a good body! I'd like to see him use it on Alan Dil do in a few weeks to flatten him like a pizza base. That would make my year.:)

That's if he identifies him coming his way.

I wouldn't categorise either Bell or Gysberts as being unlucky. At a decent AFL Club there should be no easy rides into your A team. In Bell's case, as Rhino points out, he's been around for a long time and hasn't managed to break into a permanent spot in the line up. Nothing to do with luck because we have better players in midfield roles ATM. Gysberts misses out this week but don't be surprised if he makes it next week. On what I saw a fortnight ago, he's not far away.

The unlucky bloke IMO would be Jake Spencer if the weather report turns out to be adverse. If conditions are going to be wet and slippery I think we might relace him with a smaller player like Neville Jetta.

HT, It may be worth a try to see what he can do as a negating mid, just to see if he can keep his concentration levels. Our young boys will need some strong bodies around as they mature. Some will come in then need a break. Belly won't have any trade value elsewhere so we have nothing to lose experimenting. Others in That role still have some trade value :), so we may as well look around ;).

I just wonder Jack if Spence, will be lucky???

I actually thought as a mature body, Bell would get a few starts this year, probably just to put the nail in the coffin. But given how well our smalls have gone through the middle, and how well JMac, Jordie, and Sculgove are holding up after I'd have guessed they'd all have to take time off this year, I can't see him getting a game.

As for this weeks inclusion, I was actually surprised Dunn wasn't recalled. He was going ok, if inaccurate, before he was dropped. And an extra tall forward who was linking up well wouldn't have gone astray. It might surprise a few to see him included.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
