Footy show suggests Storm like breaches

Something about a defunct charity paying money to players of Srorm, Saints and Dons.

I'm calling it now, 2000 Premiership cup should be given to us. :)

If the 2000 flag came to us by default I would ji#z in my pants.

On a serious note, I think the saints and dons will be right. Even if they did breach they would only cop a fine and be stripped a draft pick or two.

Not the Dons. They have form. Were penalised in 1996 for breaches between 91 and '96. They won a flag in his period remember.....

I doubt the AFL's gonna do anything.

But I'd like the 2000 flag, I can say I've been to a Grand Final where we lost and won.

THAT'S MORE LIKE IT.

The only way I could see this being a salary cap rort is if the clubs paid money to the charity and the charity then in turn paid money to players.

In this instance the charity would need to be run by someone with vested interests in either of the clubs.

Considering the charity was one founded by Xavier Clarke and Allan Murray, I can't see the clubs being involved too.

Players would be kept in the dark about breaches, not orchestrated them themselves.

Not sure how an essendon player comes into it, but I'm guessing it's some sort of "support for indigenous football players" fund or something.

It might have been a poorly run charity but a salary cap rort is doubtful.

Remember, in AFL circles a 3rd party payment is legit.

Yeah, we actually did the same thing in that period... Gary on footy classified touched on it the other day...

Also, look at the Storm. They lost their two premierships, but the cups weren't awarded to the sides that played them (Tigers and Sea Eagles from memory?)... and that was with a HUGE salary cap rort.

Besides. We didn't deserve a flag that year.

2012-15 however?

Jaded, you seriously painted the skates red and blue? That's awesome. You should, like, design, like, clothes for a living or something... Like for Jacqui E... just a suggestion.

Was there any mention made of the amounts paid to each player?

They could have been payments made for scholarships or such purposes.

On the other hand, if they were associated with Waldron when he was at St. Kilda and then later at the Storm, the Saints might be in a spot of bother. The Essendon payment might have been a one off to create a bit of a smokescreen.

If the payments were significant by the standards of the time they were paid, St. Kilda can expect to get hit hard. Essendon, Melbourne and Carlton were all given what were considered harsh penalties for salary cap abuses. The Saints were a major beneficiary when they picked up Goddard who otherwise would almost certainly have finished up at Carlton. In view of this and the NRL's action against the Storm, there will be a lot of pressure for a heavy penalty.

Not too many details really.

They did say that the payments could have been genuine so I guess at the moment it is really nothing but the footy show trying to make news, so they can go on about the best news breakers in the country.

But either way 2000 should be ours.

As if I have that much time on my hand to paint his skates red and blue. He just clearly knew that if he wore those colours he'd win.

And yeah I'll take your suggestion on board demon_wink.gif

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
