Footy Show last night

I know this topic seems to be discussed at least once or twice very year since Eddie left, but did anyone a) watch the footy show last night and B) find it was incredibly dull and boring??

I am still a fan of the show and like watching it for a few reasons. Namely Street Talk and the teams. But the comedy and discussion that went on last night was so bloody dry I fell asleep before the end. It may have had something to do with the panel that was on. Not having a shot just at Brock either. Akka is an A grade goose. His cheap, childish humour is funny for the first five minutes and then he goes right off the rails. I think he said sh!t 3 times in the first 5 minutes. The running gag about 'bad balls' and 'balls' in general was schoolyard humour IMO. Crawf is much the same. Offers nothing but cheap gags and potty humour. His cameo work is good and he should probably stick to that role. Brock was dull and boring but thinks the sun shines out his arse now he is at Carlton. Loved how Gary thought they had won 2 games hahah.

Sam is Sam! I still find the foss quite amuzing. However he gets a little lost when he overthinks teh humour. The disrespect he shows some makes me cringe. The old bloke 'Cobber' they had on last night is a prime example. He wanted to tak the [censored] out of the poor bloke at every opportunity.

Brayshaw. Stick to radio. Annoying!! Enough said.

In stark contrast though to last nights show was teh previous weeks episode. I thought last week was actually one of the better FS in recent years. The panel was good etc etc.

I am interested to hear the thoughts of other on last nights show and the future of the program in general. I know a lot of people are just not interested in the show anymore, but I would still like to see a 'footy show' in some format on a thursday night.

PS don't say The Bounce..gave that 10 minutes last night and switched off.

good post mate

i agree, i fell asleep too. Aker is a [censored], i like crawf but he's def a child dressed as a man. Brock is full of himself, i like sam a lot, but was not funny last night. i love the show but it seems to want to be funny for the sake of it. it doesn't have to be funny at every sentence. i really like it when Sam has a bee in his bonnet about some footy issue and goes on a passionate rant, and most of the time he makes good points, he hasn't done that yet this season.

Brayshaw is overexposed at the minute, he does my head in on how he sits on the fence about north, at least eddie spoke his mind about his pies. Hairy Garry is great, love him.

It's early in the season so who knows. the key is a good panel.

Have to admit this topic surprises me because I'm amazed anyone still watches it.

As i said in my initial post - I know a lot of people have stopped watching.I still believe that a footy variety show can work and should be on a Thursday night, but TFS has lost me. Again!

It has been around too long, it is stale and well past it's used by date....Sam Newman and Crawford should stick to Footy fundraising nights at local suburban clubs, where the audience is too drunk too care....or perhaps we should be all drunk and stoned and then watch it..the audience has moved on.....I thought the Bounce might be a good alternative...but unfortunately Rove got involved and it is puerile rubbish.......it would be better if they had a format similar to a program called Sports Soup on One (think that's what it's called..fast paced.......and the other great alternative is the Mangarook (not sure of spelling again) Footy Show......

I played on the PC whilst TFS, (sorry, that Newman show) ran in the background.

Love the Marngrook footy show. It's a gem.Unfortunately though I have digital TV now and have lost C31. I can always unplug the box and switch over. But it's a hassle. I agree with you also Re; Sports Soup. Great watch that one. Very funny.

As the only footy show we get up here in QLD (even though it doesnt come on til 11.30pm), I love it! I tape it every week and can't wait to watch it!

Maybe I'm just starved for any sort of footy/show up here - who knows?! I think Sam is great and without him, the show wouldn't be around. Garry and James need to jump off the fence they've both been sitting on for years, and the interchange thing they have going with Billy and Crawf isn't too flash either! What happened to the good old 3 player panel?! Aside from that though, I think it's a great show and something a little different to everything else?!

TFS all depends on how exciting the week is in footy, and how good/interesting/well spoken/important/controversial the panel is.

Brock Acker and Crawford? That'll be hard to beat for the most irrelevant panel this year. The week Fev comes down to Melbourne and they let him go on the show ratings will go up.

Of topic

Just a technical note, if you have a built in digital tuner you won't be able to do it, but if you have a set top box you can split the antenna and put one in the box and one in the tv, setting the box to S-Video or AV and the TV to TV, that way you just switch on the TV and not the box

Spot on Balls (and think of the mileage they'd get if you showed up on the panel with a nickname like that.. ha!)

I must have slept through the Melb team last night, totally missed whatever insults Sam threw our way...

Footy Classifieds is best of a bad bunch, I've never discovered Marngarook footy show, but I still get C31. When's it on?

Used to enjoy "On the Couch" (was that its name? - Robert Walls & co) when it was free to air.

Who from MFC would liven up the panel??

Posted (edited)

When Garry mentioned that Matthew Lloyd had been attacked by a lion cub, I half expected him to end it with "be careful, wee Lyons are dangerous," to which Sam would respond "especially the hairy ones."

You think Vossy will allow Fevolution to front on TFS? I highly doubt it. But it will make for great viewing if he does. Sam will go at him and Fev can't help but shoot his mouth off. So he will dig his own grave methinks.

i think TFS would be a lot better if they had 3 current football players on the panel instead of 2 + either crawf or billy all crawf does is stir sam up which manages to get what ever game or football story they are talking about off topic i find the show a lot better when billy is on the panel as he doesnt go out of his way to be the centre of attention, just my opinion i think shane crawford should stick 2 doing other stuff and not be on the panel. one thing i really hate about the show is when everyone is giving there tips and talking about the game and sam or crawf say something stupid and you dont hear the rest of the tips seems to happen alot when they do melbourne games

Its way better then the NRL Version we get first up here in QLD

Agreed. Although, it's akin to saying 'winning the lotto is preferable to getting TB and dying'.

Man, I tried watching that thing last night and fell asleep so fast. It didn't help that it was almost midnight, but man, talk about a lack of personality. I just kept staring at that dude with no hair and wondering, does he shine that every night before he goes out? It was hypnotising.

I haven't finished watching it in about 3 years. For whatever reason, I always start watching it, but then stop at about 10:15-10:30. Not sure why I even start.

terrible show, they talk about footy for about 5 minutes and the rest of the time is supposed 'humour' straight out of primary school. Last week we were treated to Jonathan Brown doing Karaoke.

For me, the funniest footy show is classified. Couple of journos bitching at eachother. Laugh every week.

I dont mind the footy show, watch it most weeks, but prefered it with Trevor.

Yeah, you never know. Clubs come and and make these sweeping statements, like "we don't want suc-and-such to be in front of the media" or whatever. But things change pretty quick. If he's ten goals ahead on the Coleman come season's end they're hardly going to be able to help it are they?

l liked how Sam was calling Brock,Brockili. Brock was boring,at least Aker n Shane have a personality

Broccoli might stick around, it could catch on.

i watch it every week and have done for many years (missed the odd one here and there) And i agree with the original post it too me is getting pretty boring and they seem to be trying too hard to be funny IMO it aint working.

I think they need too do something soon or its gonna fall away very quickley and people just wont stay up so late too watch rubbish.

I personally like footy classafides but that is on way too late

The bounce is ok only because of the time slot and gives me all the latest news and teams

On the coach is hit and miss depending on the guests and if i remember too watch

There are a couple of footy shows on fox sports that i recall watching last year that were ok

The other shows mentioned on here i have not seen .

There is either room for a lot of improvement or a completely new and refreshing show (what the bounce should have been)
