I think it's used incorrectly so often that the C version is now generally accepted as being correct.

The use of an S is considered to be particularly British according to some sources.

Don't think the fact that people get it wrong a lot is a reason to do away w. the rules. The 's' is more of an American thing -- e.g. defense -- but is wrong in Australian English. Anyway is simple: to practise (verb) but a practice (noun). Don't seem to have the same problem w. advice & advise because they're pronounced slightly differently.

Bartram, Miller, Johnson, Dunn, Bell, Jetta ... would get a game at ... ?

There's nothing wrong with Jetta.

Obviously the rest of that group have shown themselves to be sub-AFL standard (you could easily add Newton to that list as well), but I'd say Miller, Johnson, Bell and Dunn could press for selection at Richmond.

That's clearly nothing to be proud of, though.

This has been a problem with Miller through his entire career. I thought he'd stopped doing that last year, but seems like it's crept back in. If he's within range he should swing around and have a shot.

That's right, that too. It's either 'confidence' or 'nous' he lacks in relation to this, or even both. Even when he does swing around himself (once in a blue moon), he takes too many steps before kicking and (can) get(s) caught. That's second guessing himself and it's most evident that he is not instinctive enough for the level we really want him to be at. That is a 'class' level.

For the record, there are plenty of others in the AFL like this, he is not alone.

At the other end of the spectrum there is Matthew Pavlich. Unfortunately, there is only one of his kind.

It's not just Pavlich. I remember a game last year where Jarad Waite marked on the 50 and immediately swung around and kicked a goal.

Miller needs to do the same.

In all due respect to Mr.Waite, I did say the other "end" of the spectrum. Perhaps I should have emphasised "end."

We cant kick. If we couldnt kick well tonight in perfect, pristine conditions for footy we wont anywhere. There was no dew, no wind, no excuses.

That's strange. Because quite a few times during the coverage Rohan Smith on the boundary said the conditions were blustery out on the ground. The Fremantle doctor had come in. They showed vision of the flags too. Which were flapping vigorously ? He also stated a number of times that it was effecting skill errors and contributing to wayward kicks (skill errors).

Are you sure there was no wind ? Can you explain the difference of opinion ?

Perhaps you were sheltered from the wind in a box or something...?

As I understand from the Match Day thread and your report, you attended the game. Is that correct ?

C or S are both acceptable nowadays.

By whom? Just because other people do things wrongly does not mean that we all should.

Practice is a noun; practise is a verb.

You go to football practice to practise playing football. It is a simple grammatical rule in basic English, and there are quite a few other words where this rule is used. The best way to remember it is to remember that ice is a noun and is is a verb.

Depends on your definition of huge.

Go on Keyser...

What is your definition of "huge" then? Cause I think most of us here would agree that

it implies something substantial will come about.... and since we are talking

footy I am assuming it would have to do with winning games or something, but I don't know....

It's all well and good being a one-eyed Melbourne supporter but I find some of the comments you make

little ridiculous.

Please be realistic. Couple more years and then you are free to say we will have a "huge" year without

fellow supporters raising their eyebrows...

There aren't many positives for me from the game last night so I'll list them first.

James Strauss looked good of half back first game really showed talent. Grimes, Scully, Trengove all servicable and there is talent there for sure.

Jared Rivers and James Frawley looked the goods last night. Together with Joel Macdonald shining lights. We got game time into players

They played in match conditions.

The Negatives

Tackling 56 to 35 in Fremantle's advantage

Contested marks 12 to 2 fremantle's advantage

Contested Posessions 122 to 100 Fremantle's advantage

Inside 50's 43 to 30 fremantles advantage

We couldnt kick a goal till half way through the second quarter

Without super goals we scored 42 points to 94

Our defence against opposition set plays is the most pathetic i have ever seen Sandilands was palming it

into guys laps who were already 10 metres in space.

It doesn't give me any confidence that we have progressed beyond finshing last

I couldn't sleep last night I was so [censored] with the way we played last night

Timidity is the word....Gotta get rid of it.

Our President was / is not Timid. The players must Learn this & never forget it.

Those stats are soo bad-a decent side would have won by 100 + points.

There was hardly a breeze out there. Definately not windy.

Maybe Rohan was trying to be nice to us? Freos kicking was uneffected..

If the game was played 200 feet in the air where the flags are, with no seating, yes, it wouldve been windier huh.gif

Semantics?

You're arguing semantics??

"Huge" in this sense is subjective and, to be honest, I think most years are huge.

But in the sense that it is important for our development, in that we have hit the bottom of the trough and are now ascending the J curve.

It's like someone saying something is "awesome" - very rarely does it actually inspire awe.

Don't you have something better to argue about Steve..?

You may find my comments ridiculous, but i'm yet to see you offer anything of value.

I guess there is some some sense to what you define "huge" as...

Think I am just very over reading posters for years on here getting so excited about the team that they begin

becoming extremely biased ad unrealistic...

Some dees supporter rate our players so highly before they have even played 20 games for the club.

Apologies for the lack of value to my post.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
