Melbourne Demons woo Barack Obama

Featured Replies

If the weather is fine and Melbourne shows some form in the NAB cup I'd predict close to 60,000. Almost 40,000 turned up to a twilight game in May last year. If Barack shows the crowd will top 65,000. I'll take bets on closest to the pin without Barack. 58,973

So where is this actually at?

Obama is coming to Australia.

Is he coming to Melbourne?

Has he said he will come to a football match?

AFAIK Obama has said he is coming to Australia, and has confirmed he will give a speech to Parliament. It's believed he's coming in late March. Other than that, there aren't any confirmed details yet, so he might not be coming to Melbourne at all.

Where's our theme song from again??????????

good point..

there would probably be a few tho.

With my tongue planted firmly in cheek I wonder if Obama would really want to be associated with a team called the Demons. After all the looney right over there is happy to label him a terrorist or Muslim or commie, so why not a Devil worshipper. Food for thought maybe.

Still very hungry

I would have thought that, with our renewed optimism, and with Hawthorn's pre-season form plus their 'revenge for 2009' attitude to this season, coupled with the fact that it's at the MCG, and that Melbourne and Hawthorn together account for over 40% of all MCC members, I would have thought that 50,000 would be a reasonable estimate. Add word of Obama to that and there could be another 10,000.

The 1st bit makes sense.

But dont see how Obama is actually going to pull extra crowd in.. Osama, maybe..

Think where it will do something good for us is the fact that every station will have a camera there and the game will receive extra news / tv time.. just gotta make sure we play well or it could backfire!

hope he doesnt support the Bombers

Ha! nice..

IF we get Barack Obama, doesnt that mean 'the pies' automatically draft Bin Laden,

Looking up rule 244 on the draft rules as we speak

I don't really understand the animosity towards Brumby helping out his Club, particularly when you compare it to the angst from time to time directed at Melbourne's high-profile supporters when some feel they aren't doing enough for their Club.

As for whether Obama 'barak-ing' for Melbourne would be a plus, I doubt it'd be a negative.

PS. Even if we're no shot at getting Obama, it's a nice way of getting Melbourne in the papers. It reminds me of the Club's ploy of milking the media re: Luke Ball.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
