Pick #2 for Sandilands?

Featured Replies

Let's be honest he would NOT get a gig in any other team, although you could say that for a lot of our players. It's not unfair to say he is not afl standard atm. I am not having a go at this kid at all, just saying it how it is. He has a long way to go with a lot of aspects in his game and I hope he takes big steps forward next year. Our lack of quality rucks helps Jake's cause and people seem to have their hopes placed in him as do I. I just think we should expect a little more as for the past 3 years our standards have definitely dropped for good reason though. This is not a player bash but just an opinion, to many people follow suit around here and an opinion which is not the norm is blasphemy. Good one RR,

Aside from Kruezer, I have seen the rawness and potential in any number of 18-19 yo ruckman. I saw the same goofiness in blokes Simmonds and Jolly. They had the same characteristics and neither matured into first rucks until they were 25+

Your meassuring a 19yo against standard set by mid to late 20's ruck who was a 10 year 200+ gamer and AA winner. Then Spencer failsl If there is issue with our rucks stocks I think we should looking at other rucks on our list. I actually think Spencer at times gave us more in the centre than PJ did. If you want to put an opinion on a public forum and expect it not to reasonably challenged then you have my profound sympathies for the misperception.

I said it is blasphemy, nothing about not expecting to be challenged? You don't need to change the meaning of peoples posts to get your point across.

Besides that I hope your right, I hope in 5 years he turns our to be a good player for Melbourne.

1 a : the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God b : the act of claiming the attributes of deity

No blasphemy here boyo!

With young rucks its the investment now for the future. And such players with long lead times will always come with some risk.

You may recall Ben Cousins' article from earlier this year about Dean Cox's development and how when he first arrived his skills were shocking and he looked like he was going to hurt himself running laps.

Don't play dumb.

You turn this into something people don't want to read. You can have the last word, im done here.

I would like to see something more from Spencer next year.

pick 2 ?? No way..

pick 18 ? Hmm !!

A lot of this depends on whether the Russian is actually on the move or not. If Jamar does go then Sandilands for 18 or similar to provide competitve rucking and feed Scully and Co whilst other rucking protoges come along might have some merit.

I'd say:

Sandilands

for

Miller, Bell and pick 50..(and the pick after that, if need be..)

The draft is crud for depth this year, 34 might even be a waste. So for me Picks 1, 2 and 18 are untouchable!

I'll leave that to you.

Your repeated carry on about blasphemy is self serving at best and unnecessary.

We would all like to see something more from Spencer next year.

If the draft is crud - as you say below, I'm sure Freo would leap at that deal......... Not!

I agree with keeping picks 1,2,18. Especially 1 & 2.

I would consider only picks 1 and 2 sacrosanct... everything else is for sale....at the right price... or benefit

Remember...a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush !!

Way too old considering DB likes recruiting youth.

Expensive and would make us trade a valuable player.

Our rucks in Spence/PJ/Jamar/Meesen/Martin are solid developing players

Not particulalry advocating using any picks for Sandilands. Is highly unlikley hes going anywhere anyway as Freo are looking to secure both Sandilands and pavlich as core players whilst rebuilding.

Yeah they would see thru that, but i reckon you could still sell it

-going on the premise that the 'Mill and bell, for Sandi', would be a pretty even deal for both parties,

The extra lowly pick 50, may be the cherry on top.. throw it in as a clincher if its that close to being done

why not? doubt we'll use it.. hope we don't.. ;)

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
