For those of you wanting to have a look at these 2 draft prospects, Scully is playing at Visy Park at 11am on Sunday and Butcher is playing in the game afterwards at 2.00pm. Could be worth getting along to see them in the one day.

Saw that line up in the paper. Good to see Butcher playing at FF, not to sure what's going on with Scully named at HBF?

Both are future stars of the AFL, but i'll wait till they play for the MFC.

You'll be waiting a long time if you're expecting to see Butcher play for the Dees...

There is no way Butcher will be playing for the Dee's. Nowhere near the best talent - sorry but Butcher lovers should go watch him play.

Did anyone hear the conversation on Triple M today about what Melbourne should do with pick number 2?

They were weighing up if we should think outside the best available policy and look at selecting someone like Butcher. I didn't catch the whole conversation but would be interested to know what they discussed if anyone caught it.

Garry Lyon did a quick run through of Melbourne's next premiership side and put Scully and Butcher in it. Although when quizzed on Butcher vs best available he did say he had little idea as he hadn't seen enough of them to make judgement.

This is clear if he still thinks Butcher is a possibility.

Brayshaw i think it was, was talking about how Butcher's suss kicking ability will seriously limit his overall output. They then went on about how you can only improve a players kicking roughly 10-15% (i think it was) once they reach 17 or 18. Changing someones kicking style is one of the hardest things to do in coaching of you believe those 4.

Garry went on about his son already having a bad kicking style and how he refuses to listen to his old man to correct it. Doesn't look so good for a father son pick up there.

Brayshaw would love it if butcher fell to north's pick.

Any one have any updates on how these boys went?

I saw a quarter and a half of the Dandenong game and they were being flogged. Scully did a couple of good things by foot and hand (his disposal skills are excellent)and showed some good touch but to be honest, he was not setting the world on fire. He had one goal assist that I saw but when i left it was in the region of 8 goals to 2 so a fair fit of one way traffic. The mid field coach was getting stuck into them at quarter time saying that they were not imposing themselves on the competition which was pretty obvious. Don't know what the final score was..

On a different tack, I was very impressed with the standard of TAC. I had not seen it before and they play at a great clip with good skills on display overall. The big differences that I noticed were the sizes of the bodies and the rucking which was understandably very sub AFL level. No wonder it is hard to recruit ruckmen as they are so far from being developed at this age.

I saw the games.

Both were fairly down on their best.

Scully was good as per usual in traffic, and Butcher .. was .. well Butcher - took some nice grabs, but again refused to leave the forward 50.

I also saw Craig Cameron have a pretty in depth discussion with Scully and his mother.

NB: Once again .. I heard Adrian Dodoro having a whinge about not getting DVD access to SANFL/WAFL games .. poor Adrian.

Well, CAC would be aware that Richmond currently has pick 2. (Pick 3 Sunday evening). Due diligence I'm sure, just in case the Dees may be thinking Trengove at pick 1.

Hi All,

I had a good first hand look at Butcher a few weeks ago when he was playing for his local side Maffra in the seniors despite his little influence on the game I must say I was very impressed, his speed and marking ability were both outstanding not to mention his size. He did not look out of depth playing amongst men. However he did fade out of the game fairly quickly, an ex power player who also claimed jack watts as a scalp last season went to him early on and can now add butcher to his list. I have also heard through Gippsland Power that his work rate is very low, he has all the tools but not willing to always use them, he only runs around the 5km mark every game as opposed to a Richo or Reiwoldt who is between 10 and 15. Teaching him a work-rate that will see him succeed at AFL level appears to be the challenge...

This doesn't make picking him any clearer at this stage because lets be honest once draft day is done and dusted it doesn't matter who has what talent and what number they were selected it comes down to who is willing to work the hardest along with mental and physical maturity.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
