Once again, I REPEAT...

PJ, Bell and Newton ARE contracted for 2010. Unfortunate as it may be, but thems the breaks.

Unless the club can manufacture a trade of these players, there is almost zero chance of them being delisted at years end.

We're currently running a massive debt demolition campaign for the 2nd year in a row, and people want to pay out contracts? FFS

Came third in the B+F in 2007.

Has done extremely well for a forward in the worst team in the league, that gets the fewest Inside 50s in the league.

Has the most goals and equal in assists with Davey.

You, and others, have made a snap judgement on a poor 2008 and a few games early this season and have completely missed the very good form of a player whose value will increase as Watts, Jurrah, and Wonaeamirri become more prominent. He, as he showed on Sunday, can still have a run in the middle and be effective.

Sticking to snap judgements would have meant that Garland wouldn't have returned to the side after being dropped in early 2008...

If that doesn't give you pause nothing will...

Point taken but I just don't see him as a premiership winning forward.

hes a premiership flanker, that can kick the pill 60mtrs.

Im with you there,i think he has been 1 of our standouts this year & think hes the type of player who just needs a big experienced forward around him.He needs to just play off the HFF & not be asked to be FF or CHF.He has the best hands by a mile at the club & along with Sylvia is the only 1 that can constantly kick from outside 50.Has a great leg & can jump.I think in a few years he will regularly be kicking around the 50 goals per season

Also has no agility, runs on roller skates, takes short steps and second efforts just don't happen.

your kidding, bates part of the future, wait to the centres firing, you have no idea, he can bomb a goal from 50MTRS.

I really hope he does as much as you do. But until he grabs the bull by the horns, his on thin ice just like many others.

I stand by the negatives in his game. They far outway the positives at this stage.

Hmmm.

Very, very tough situation.

Who was the genius who contracted Newton for next year???

Some very clever trading may be required.

You are kidding right? can't find 5-7 players to get rid of??? There is a reason why we are last on the ladder. Off the top of my head players like Bartram, Bell, Buckley, Johnson, McDonald (retire), Miller, Newton, Robertson, Spencer, Wheatley and Whelan (retire) will consider themselves lucky to be on our list next year. There's 11 right there and Valenti should be promoted from the rookie list.

There's still a lot of old and dead wood that needs to be shipped out before we become more than an average side, as we can't afford to have too many passengers on our list. All of the above, besides the proposed retirees are just that. That is still a quarter of our entire list that is not up to scratch.

Very harsh, think he has shown enough this year to indicate he will be a good player for the MFC, should be groomed as a clinton jones-type tagger. Still has much to offer.

Bit stiff on buckley also, hasnt had the opportunity to back up a promising 08 season

Rest are valid

No idea but it was a major brain fade, most average mfc player iv seen since chris heffernan. Plays like he doesnt care

No he's not.

You may want him to be.

But he is very highly rated by those down at the Junction.

And "Premiership winning forward?"

Steven Armstrong is a PWF.

Game. Set. Match.

zing!

Lets get serious on trade talk!

Throw up something realistic!

Bate and Valenti to Sydney for Pick 8 or thereabouts.

I dont think Miller has much currency. But i do think Sydney would be interested.

But could try Miller and Valenti for Pick 8 and possibly a swap of 3rd round picks.

I would be looking at;

Pick 1. Scully

Pick 2. Trengove

Pick 8. Panos, Tapscott

Pick 18. Panos, Tapscott, Jetta

Pick 42. Michael Smith I think it is. Sydney get our Pick 34 for there 42.

A 26 year old who cannot find a spot in the 16th team in the league and a rookie list player for pick 8?

Seriously, I've heard everything now. I've ticked that off the list and can now retire.

I will put it out there again:

If you supported another club, which MFC player would you want?

Jack Grimes or Colin Slyvia!

Grimes is going to be exceptional and Sylvia is about to burst!

Were you going for irony?

And we can't trade Valenti. He's on the RL.

So, Grimes and Sylvia are the only two MFC players that you would be interested in, yet you offer a trade of MILLER and VALENTI to acquire a first round pick?

Anyone else see the irony here? I thought you said you wanted to get into some serious trade talk!

I'm seriously not sure if you're being sarcastic, Dee tention? Really.

You tend to trade players you dont want or have similiar of. Bate, Miller, Valenti etc.

It has been rumoured Sydney are looking at Valenti and possibly Miller. Bate is young and would fit into there side also.

So did you want me to offer Grimes and Sylvia?

Please tell me you're joking.

The only two players that other team's would be interested in, you wouldn't offer up as a trade.

Why then would a team give up a first round pick for garbage?

I was being more realistic with Bate and Valenti!

More hoping they might be silly enough with Miller and Valenti.

What would you throw up for a Pick 8 if Sydney would trade?

the players other teams would like from our list. in no order

watts

davey

jurrah

sylvia

grimes

aussie

green

maybe rivers at a pinch if someone lacked a tall defender.

i wouldnt trade frawley, although he might be in the same boat as rivers - someone might want him if they wanted a young full back.

IMHO all those players are OFF the trade list. big time.

anyone else they can trade away - except those drafter in the last 2 years. if someone is dumb enough to trade for them.

[censored], id take pick 63 for miller. and pick 112 for bruce.

Bate and Miller and exchange of 3rd round Picks for Bulldogs Pick 14 or thereabouts? Is that realistic?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
