A meaningless result in a lack lustre game against a marshmallow opposition.

RR, spot on. We've spanked Port on the MCG for 12 years on every occasion except one, and where's it got us? No where.

We simply MUST load up on top line players to enable us to challenge the top line sides in big matches - something we've conspicuously failed to do.

Well they did have a Finals spot on the line.

Even you would be able to see that PA dogged it on the effort yesterday. We beat a soft and disinterested opposition.

Good stat Old.

Though personally I feel it's more about who the club selects with their second pick in the top 5 that is important (as it can be assumed they'd have selected the first player regardless of the priority pick).

This would give names like Pavlich after Hasleby, Koschitzke after Riewoldt, Mclean after Sylvia, Franklin after Roughead, Pendlebury after Thomas, Judd after Kreuzer.

Good point - added that data

At this stage, I think getting a winning culture into our young boys is the most beneficial thing for them.

What is a winning culture? How's a fifth win against a side that's managing their own list going to create a winning culture? Does an extra win make a significant difference to a 'winning culture'?

How'd that 'winning culture' work out for us in 2008, after we took five steps towards developing a winning culture the season before?

How about Richmond's 'winning culture' this season, on the back of their great run in the second half of 2008?

Melbourne have had two pp's before the first round. The second one was used on Travis Johnstone, we then used our 2nd pick in a trade to Fremantle in exchange for Jeff White.

This infamous trade later came under security when Gutnick revealed that Melbourne had exceeded the salary cap, with the fines including losing a future early round pick to Freo (pick 4 from memory). This is further interesting because the year that Fremantle were found to be cheating the cap was when Farmer was traded to them. The AFL, in their infinite wisdom, then proceeded to state that the initial penalty on Melbourne was too harsh and they wouldn't be giving us one of Freo's pick in compensation.

Added that one in - are there any others - I couldn't see any pre-97 but I may be missing something.

I Totally Agree with your Points. Trouble is i don't think we are the 16th placed side in the comp with 7 rounds to go.

The Young Kids have improved quicker than what we all thought would happen.

With Whatever number(s) we get in the Draft we must recruit the Best Midfielder available.

Scully i fear will be long gone as the 2 W.A sides & Sydney have given up the chase, while North & Richmond are just Rubbish.

We are somewhere in the middle, but i don't think 16th.

If by some miracle we do end up 16th with the 4 wins. I will be going out to Party so "uckin'" hard.

The world better look out!!
