Injury List - Round 15

This is supposed to be the official injury list. However, it doesn't include Addam maric who is said to have undergone a shoulder reconstruction. We breed them tough if Maric plays this week. Also not included is Jack Watts, presumably over his migraine and ready to resume somewhere this week. It's getting close to the point where Aussie might as well pack it in for the season. He's not due back until Round 18 at the earliest and would need a couple of games at Casey at the very least to establish some fitness.

Injured:

Sam Blease (leg) – indefinite

Simon Buckley (groin) – 1-2 weeks

Colin Garland (foot) – indefinite

Rhys Healey (quad) – 2 weeks

Tom McNamara (hip) – 1-2 weeks

John Meesen (knee) – indefinite

Jake Spencer (ankle) – 1-2 weeks

James Strauss (shoulder) – indefinite

Austin Wonaeamirri (knee) – 3-4 weeks

Suspended:

Colin Sylvia – 3 weeks

At least wona isnt 4 2 6 or he might never play again

I can't wait to see Simon Buckley back personally. I believe his run could be used well with the current list.

I just can't wait to see Davey, Wonna & Liam all down on the forward line doing Superlative things as we power towards late september...as Frank Grimes Runs through the middle...

Tough to see how he could get back quickly, he'll need some time at Casey. Is worth the wait I think.

So Danny Hughes should be set for a return from an adductor strain for Casey this week then? Time is running out fast for young Dan, hope he gets his chance soon.

It would be good to see him run around, after so many set backs and so long on the rookie list he does deserve a go...

At 22 it is a mature age to debut, but there was that richmond guy that was 24 the other week that played his first game..

One would assume that he'll play this week if he's not mentioned on the official injury list but experience says not to make any assumptions. He could be in but then again ...

I'm hoping McNamara gets fit quickly enough so that he gets a game towards the end of the year.

I get the feeling Wonnaeamirri won't play this year, which really sucks. I would have liked to get all our Aboriginal players together for one match. I remember Davey saying at the start of the year that he would like that too.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
