Wouldn't that be funny - VP as an AFL venue, but insufficent capacity for Collingwood to be able to play matches there.

Wouldn't it be so sweet! hehe.

and just how many ppl could bring themselves to go to a Dees home game at Victoria Tip ??

Not a true supportere would ever set foot in that ceespit !!

I can understand the feeling towards VP however as a solution to the stadium deals I think it's the best solution. Already on a train line which PP isn't. A 35,000 seat stadium there would be ideal (based off Westpac stadium in Wellington NZ) especially for St. Kilda, Roos and Bulldogs. I'd imagine 3 would be the most amount of games we'd have to play there as MCG deal isn't as bad as Docklands. Bottom line is VP and PP are the only shorter term options and VP would be the most easily accessed by the public.

what is wrong with public transport to princes park??

just train to melbourne central and tram up swanson st to the end!

Id counter that and suggest that thats just about the only way you could get to VP these days...good luck parking

The time element is that it would be 3-4 years to get VP down and up and ready.. you could pretty much have Princes park ready for next season if you really had a mind to do so. Its not a huge walk from Royal Park to PP ..nor the trams. As much as I detest both PP is an option with relative time frames attached.

Agree with you there Belzebud59 in that it really is the only way to get there as there is no parking. However this can be rectyfied by the AFL. For example open up the MCG parking and have a few express trains from Jolimont to VP just as one thought?

And although it would take 3-4 years before VP would be up and running the way the contact works with Docklands 44 games a year have to be played there until the end of 2014. Therefore if we did have a new stadium next year almost no games would be played there. So that' why I believe it's still a better option then PP. Just in my opinion mind you.

And Nugget Jones the biggest problem with the transport to PP in my opinion is the trams are always to packed and not frequent enough. Think most people would rather go the train then tram, but again that's only my opinion. I do see why some people would prefer PP mind you.

you will have a big problem getting the MCG carpark open other than when a game is actually fictured there. The MCC ( council ) just isnt big on it....just a fact thats all. Trains to and from.. well ..in theory yes but headways and scheduling arent that overly easy to accomodate on that line unless trains continue etc. If you could..it would ease it ( travel ) for sure. Its just an awkward ask.

You rightly point out though that options probably are limited to those essentially.

Id offer up a left fielder though..

You do make a good point about MCC council and their car park. I think these are all big problems the AFL may have no matter where they look to put a 3rd Melbourne venue. One things for sure it will be interesting to see what solution they do come up with.

Can anyone tell me what the exact agreement is with no new stadiums being used for 25 years?

My understanding is that when Docklands opened a contract was entered into with the AFL that no new venues would be built to host home & away and finals football in Victoria until the end of 2025. Also there's an agreement that Docklands gets 44 home & away games a year until the end of 2014 when it's then reduced to 30. However PP and VP were still in use at the time so they can still be used technically. Was all overseen by Wayne Jackson who we all know wants to reduce the number of Victorian clubs so that's probably why the stadium deal is so bad.

Thanks for that, it's a very interesting situation.

Never happened Junior. It was a bad dream. Never let the facts get in the..........

Did you attend the round 16 twilight game against North in 2007 at the Dome? We had the cheersquad and a smuttering of MFC supporters here and there.

It was 1,500 MFC fans at the most.

Your earlier comment suggest 500 MFC fans and 20,000 NM fans. Nothing like exaggeration is there to make you "sick in thr guts". There was no doubt our attendance was down buts lets not let the facts get in the way.

BTW, did you notice North had only 13,000 at the Dome on the weekend?

So does that mean that Victoria Park (as terrible as that place was) would also be able to host matches if able, seeing as that ground was still in use when Docklands came in?

Melbourne playing home games at Victoria Park? I feel ill at the thought.

Won't happen anyway, that place is a wreck right now. Plus it has worse parking and public transport issues than Princes Park.

Plus I heard they're bulldozing it in order to build a Cash Converters and a gay bar.

I thought it already was the latter.

Built on top of a slag heap way back. The Melbourne Football Club actually Helped fund the original building of vic park, so the Filth could have a home.

How times have changed, I hope in my lifetime to see The Demons back on equal Footing with the Filth slogging it out on centre stage-The MCG.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
