Slim pickings at this years draft

Featured Replies

If we get picks 1 and 2, I would trade pick 2 and Jack Watts to Port Adelaide for Warren Tredrea and Dean Brogan.

We need a key forward and a ruck, and they would be perfect.

Done deal you contact the Dees I will contact Port.

huh?

RR was taking a shot at you for not being able to envisage PJ's delisting - something RR clearly thinks is a possibility.

Yeah I just didn't get his comment.."Maybe that's your problem"

Anyway, I don't think it will happen but I said 'maybe' and that's more likely than his other "Dead Easy" candidates for delisting like McNamara, Buckley, Bate, Dunn :o

I'll take a stab at it and say that these players won't be at the Dees next year: Whelan, Bell, Robbo, Junior. There might be others traded but I don't think there will be any other delistings/retirements and I think there is ZERO CHANCE of any of the above 4 youngsters (barring major injury) being delisted

Im sorry I just cant fathom why anyone is considering handing over a hard to get early pick in the last of the even drafts for at least 5 years.

We are NOWHERE near a tilt and near to bolster the ranks and improve the overall gene pool. We dont have 'that' much that we can afford to be cavalier about it now.

Picks 1 and 2 stay firmly in our hands for the best 2 players.. By al lmeans see who comes to the table for other offerings ut these two are non negotiable to me.

Next year is a different kettle of fish

Belze, we're often on the same wavelength mate, one day we should catchup for a beer when the DEES play interstate.

Agreed, I'd add Wheatley and possibly PJ.

Buckley, Bate, Dunn, Sylvia and PJ are all potential trades when GC arrives. I'm still hoping the first 4 become strong MFC players.

i would have no problem trading a top 2 pick for a Cooney, Franklin, Roughhead, Griffen, Kerr cant think of toomany others tho

when do you think we will be that competitive to warrant such a costly purchase ?

Do you think a new club will be that wet behind the years like the Brisbane Bears and given worthwhile draft picks for players who have had up to 7 years AFL experience and perennially failed to have a meaningful impact at that level and often could you grab a place in one of the worst teams I have seen play in the past 20 years?

Dream on.

I have a sneaking suspicion that with this years pandomoium and positioning y some clubs to insulate against the drought that there will be some sort of knowk on effect. The extent of which is unknown. However I CAN see some players at various clubs handed a lifeline if for no ther reason as it provides some sort of depth where little may become available. Just a hunch though :)

My point is that Buckley, Bate, Dunn and Sylvia have all shown something. I would hope that if Bailey and co. can't make MFC players out of them then it is still quite possible another coach would see something in them. They all have some redeeming qualities, I wouldn't expect first round picks for them but I'd expect us to get something for them. I actually think there's still a chance they will become serviceable players for us in the future.

By the way you can hold the "Dream on" comment for someone else.

John Butcher

Tom Scully

Our 2 at this stage likely targets in the draft.

Sylvia has shown us that we wasted a number 3 pick sadly. His Glimpses are just that.

Tom Scully

I reckon this is a better clip of Scully's exploits:

Scully & Watts in the same Forward Line!!! I Gotta sit down!

Butcher looks awesome, so does Scully.

I'd hate for us to have to pick one or the other. Both would help us greatly!

Are you saying that we would expect to just cut him and get nothing in return? You have to remember that in the year's ahead the middle ranked club's are going to really struggle using the draft. They will have to trade and players of Sylvia's ability will be tradeable.

There was nothing that year to waste the pick on. Don't be sad. Sylvia may continue to improve.

re the new Scully hightlights;

And that is now a far better highlights package.

The only other one I had seen

did not really make clear his Judd-like qualities.

His speed and reading of the play is on another dimension.

Now I will be sad if WCE let us beat them this week

like they did last year when they were bolting to the wooden spoon to get Nat.

The earlier Quote said that Sylvia Had Shown something. I was merely stating that a number 3 Draft should show a lot more.

Whether Col stays or not is within the Gods right now.

He Played a great 2nd Q against Richmond but i want him to show something against a top side.He is on a good wage. Part of which i payed for.

1:46 of Scully's clip was completely awesome.

Fair enough

butcher took 6 contested marks on the weekend...but i think scully is the one we'd choose if we had to

Richmond are going to go toe to toe with us for the coveted "spoon" this year, now they stuffed up with Richo as well as cousins (what a disgraceful medical team they have).

The west Aus teams will both win more than 4.

I heard Harvey on the radio interviewed late last night. Smart man. Like DB starting from scratch.

I think us ppicing sylvia at the time was the right one, he had shown alot of promise and looking at the other options well theres not much else id rather have, belive it or not you could almost tip the draft upside down lol. Just dont include pic 1 ;)

All the interviews I've seen of him, particularly on the couch last year, paint the opposite picture of Mark Harvey.

He sounded together on SEN interview yesterday, I was surprised when I heard it was him.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
