Carl Ditterich in trouble

Former Saint and Demon captain coach "Big Carl" Ditterich is in trouble - FOOTY HARDMAN CARL DITTERICH FIGHTING TO SAVE FARM

I had the honour of speaking with Carl today. He and his family are in danger of being evicted from the family farm at Swan Hill, over a dispute with the local water authority. Their lawyers say they have a good case, but the legal bills are mounting and the family is in danger of not being able to make it to the door of the court.

Carl's view is that they need to publicise the matter.

What, if anything, can Carl’s devoted fans do to help?

I am after ideas here. Any posters with ideas they do not wish to put out on public forum are welcome to ring me on 0408 698 328.

Regards,

Peter Connor (aka rollo)

I read about that last week.

The low pricks, apparently he hasn't even used any water.

I wish Big Carl and his family all the best.

"The property had not used a drop of water from the project because a 2km extension to the property was never built."

I also read the story and what the water board are doing seems totally unreasonable and unAustralian.

I think this is a cause that all Melbourne and St. Kilda people should embrace.

Let's contact our St. Kilda friends and between us we might be able to get some people power working out ways to help a legend of both our respective clubs.

Well done WJ, I had a thought along the same lines.

"I had a thought along the same lines."

thanks, people...

I have started with a post on the saintsational website, and the response has been gratifying...

the best idea I have heard, so far (lexl on demonology), is for a celebrity match to raise funds for the legal defence...

Carl does not want charity, he and his family want justice, so this is the best idea I have heard so far...

I can't remember when I last felt so angry...

(It might have been when jimmy ran over the mark in '87 and my hawks-supporting brother-in-law patted me on the arm as buckennara lined up and said "there's always next year")...

many, many thanks to the posters who have replied on here...

and also to those who have contacted me privately...

dunno what can be accomplished, but with the permission of Carl and his family, I will be putting some of your suggestions into practice this week...

will post progress (or lack thereof) on here...

rollo

reporting to report...

nothing to report...

too much work today, but I will be starting on our strategies this week, god willing...

I'm bumping this up because it's an important thread.

Does anyone have any contacts with The Footy Show?

Even though I'm not a big fan of the programme, a segment on TFS would surely give this campaign a boost.

I am writing to report…

I have finally had the time to speak to significant numbers of melbourne and st.kilda people about this matter…

Most of us are angry and passionate, but not connected at the highest levels of business, government, unions, politics etc…

Potential solutions at our level are one-dimensional…

Let’s get publicity !!

(publicity alone does not provide solutions)…

Let’s raise money for the legal defence !!

(that sort of money is beyond us)…

I am convinced that what we need to do is to approach the well-connected dees and saints supporters, not for money but for ideas and strategies (that can invlove us angry and passionate foot-soldiers at need)…

That is what I am doing, and if people disagree, this thread is not a dictatorship, and I invite them to do their own thing…

Regards,

peter connor ( aka rollo)

things are happening, but nothing I can responsibly comment on publicly...

many thanks for the private emails and pm's...

(I have had to clear the pm's a couple of times to be able to receive new ones)...

Carl Ditterich has a private army ready to pounce...

we are awaiting direction from above (way, way above)...

thanks and regards to all,

past player groups at both melbourne and st.kilda are on board...

people are talking and things are happening...

I have never met Carl or his family, only talked to them on the phone, but they strike me as really good people who are deserving of our help and support...

there may yet be a role for us supporters...

watch this space...

rollo

Thanks Rollo, you guys sounds hopefull that people are getting onboard to help a mate.

this is what our country is all about, or was, mostly.

Let us return to these values.

A generic response (if I may) to all the emails and personal messages I have continued to receive on this matter…

I am happy to confirm that, at both melbourne and st.kilda, this matter has now moved to the attention of people way beyond our pay grade or “need to know” status…

If we hear nothing in the general media, then we have to assume that Carl’s problem has gone away…

If we hear something, then there may yet be a role for us to play, and this thread will not die…

(hoping it dies)…

regards,

rollo.

Tell him he should Log on sometime. Carl gave a lot to our club & should always be welcomed.

when carl left the dees, he left his footy life behind, I think, and got on with his real life...

in those days, footy at the highest level was just a passing and part-time thing...

times have changed...

I read recently that st.kilda premiership player verdun howell was intending to auction his brownlow medal...

to put some food on his family's table...

yes, times have changed...

Rollinson65 was last heard from en route to the Old Dart to watch a Test Match or two but I'm sure he will be gratified by the front page Herald Sun story that trucking magnate and former Saint Lindsay Fox has thrown his weight behind Carl Ditterich's Supreme Court action to save the family property. Also throwing in their support are a number of former Saints, board member John Gdanski and past players of the Melbourne Football Club.

There's still a long way to go but Carl and his family know they're not alone. Fox has offered Carl free use of his legal team.

yeah, well, wj, all the blustering seems to come from our side, but all the real support seems to come from the st.kilda footy club...

when the saints' current season comes to an end, I will be suggesting that we do what we can to bring about a testimonial match for Carl ( he has never had one) between the dees and the saints to raise $ for the legal defence...

maybe the support match could be demonland/demonology v. saintsational ??

why should lindsay fox foot the bill on his own ??

I would be ashamed if melbourne people did not have a hand in helping Carl to fight this litigation...

he gave us so much, we owe him...

I'd agree, but at the same time I'd expect Lindsay Fox to have a legal team on standby being paid by him whether they are working or not, so its just putting them to use.

I'm not sure of the correct terminology, but I think they'd be 'on retainer'..?

Either way, I doubt its costing Fox an extra cent

dunno, mate...

but if you are like me, your reply to requests for charitable donations is "sorry, but I am fully committed to my favourite charities"...

lindsay fox is richer than us, but his generosity has got to have limits...

when the saints' season ends, I am going to do everything I can to bring about a testimonial match (confirmed today that Carl never had one at either club) to raise $ for the legal defence...

unless somebody comes up with a better idea...

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
