Fair enough hopefully he'll be right soon enough

Great report btw

Thanks JJJ and Big Red. Any fix'll do for the moment. Great reports.

The apparent injury list is a concern. The last one I read in one of the papers a couple of weeks back painted a different picture.

It'll be interesting to see who runs out in Launceston come the NAB Cup.

1: Buckley: Injured, groin related at a guess. Handballing and helping out the younger players in the rehab group when I was there. Looks very strong and physically imposing.

32: Bruce: Looked up and about. Trying to impress?????? Still cant handball, hopefully Scott West can address this.

38: Spencer: Enthusiastic, ran really hard and tried. His kicking is something else. How a forward could have any idea where the ball is going is anyones guess, including big Jakes.

Blease: Pretty sure the boys were calling him sauce. His kicking looked a little shabby. He is quick though and skinny.

Great work JJJ, thanks for the detailed update. Much appreciated.

Buckley's report comes as some concern. Hopefully its not a prolonged OP. We need him on the ground IMO.

With regard to Bruce & West. You can't teach an ol' dog new tricks. No pun intended.

When you referred to Spencer's kicking as 'something else' I thought it meant 'out of this world' (as in good)......then I read a little further.

Ward was called 'Sauce'. Some correlation perhaps. Bruce, Green or Macca might be behind this..

Really appreciate the work fellas

Extremely heartening to hear Sylvia and Frawley looking good. But if I had a cookie for every time I heard someone is having a good preseason and then they had a bad year I would be fatter than Oprah.

Now i'm going to sit in the corner like a little girl and cry about Moloney. FFS.

At a guess it may have been shoulder clean up, I can't think of any other niggle he's had.

To JJJ,

Just a question on your player numbers. You listed Jake Spencer at #38 but I'm sure he was allocated #42 last year. Does this mean the official 2009 numbers are out?

BTW thanks for such a comprehensive report. It's much appreciated.

With regards to both Maric and Moloney, any injury they may have cannot be serious. Around the far side of the oval at training I saw them both tearing up 200m sprints along the boundary. They both looked to be going 90-100%. For what its worth Beamer absolutely torched Maric and looked pretty good to me. He may have just been avoiding collision training.

Good stuff.

16: Grimes: Bulked up. Has an interesting kicking technique which is accurate but I think will limit his distance. He is a very good decision maker and can run hard for a long time. He doesnt act like a 2nd year player and certainly knows the game judging by the way he finds the ball.

Bennell:

Jurrah:

Grimes. Can't wait.

Looking forward to seeing more of these 3 too.

LMAO about the having good pre season comment

This time last year the man tearing up the track having a good pre season was none other than John Meeson. He was winning time trials , fittest bloke by a mile etc etc pity he lacks one thing you need to be a good AFL player -football playing ability

great summary when is the next training sessions these summarys are keeping me sane i just joined demonland so looking forward to some more training reports

4: Watts: He is quick. Very quick. He isnt as skinny as I thought he would be. His kicking to McLean in a kick to kick drill was sensational (on both sides) as was his kicking for goals later. Doesnt seem to have a massive engine. Has an air of confidence that is very encouraging and was vocal in the drills. His lateral quickness was also on display and combined with clean hands should allow him to play a variety of position early on in his career.

8: Frawley: Trained very strongly. Looks bigger. His 2nd efforts on the running drills were excellent. After 2007 I thought he would develop into a powerful runner but last year left me unsure. Today, he was leading his running group time after time. His kicking was ok and his carry of the football was very good.

12: Sylvia: One of the best. Hit targets, ran hard and generally showed clean hands and good decision making. He pushed aside Bartram in one drill so easily it was embarrassing. He did lag a little towards the end of the running drills but not through lack of trying, he just needs more work. He was vocal, enthusiastic and generally pretty exciting.

27: Rivers: Trained with the main group. He looked healthy and happy. Probably the highlight of the morning was his presence along with McLean.

36: Davey: Another who looked great. At one stage he had Jetta chasing and he just took 3-4 steps to gap him. His kicking was sublime.

Thanks JJJ for the good work.

What you've said about Watts paints a pretty nice picture IMO. I like his being vocal too.

I've heard that Frawley and Sylvia are two of the best in terms of pre-season training so far this year. I damn well hope so. Again, good to see Sylvia being vocal.

Yay. Rivers is training with everyone else.

In the HUN today Josh Mahoney is quoted as saying that Davey looks faster than he ever has. Good signs.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
