Why Melbourne will be active in trade week

Firstly, Dean Bailey is no fool. He knows our list is a pile of [censored] and he will do whatever he can to rectify it.

Secondly, I believe that opposition clubs see Melbourne as a burial yard for talented kids. We have failed to turn any of our draft picks over the last 10 years into superstars.

Coaches from other clubs will make plays for guys like Davey, Rivers, Bate, Jones, Moloney, Sylvia etc.. with the thinking that they will blossom in a new environment.

As I said, Bailey is no fool so he wont just accept any trash for out talented players. But I do believe he will pull the trigger on a few trades next week and we will come out on top.

Are you suggesting Sylvia is trade bait?

Hell no.

I am just saying that a lot of other clubs will be trying to get him from us.

I imagine that Bailey will stick to his guns much like Al Clarkson and continue with his overall plan to develop the young players on this list.

Hawthorn were terrible a few years ago and they've got many of the same players today.

MFC will make some moves but i think this year they will be subtle tweaks to the list, not a major overhaul.

Hell no.

I concur on all fronts.

I will guarentee you Melbourne will be the least active in trade week with only two possible deals

Bentley to us

And Armitage to us for pick 19. they're the two i know of, and the club knows it wants to keep picks and not get recycled players if they are over 23. and most clubs won't be getting rid of any young under 23 talent.

The least active with 2 deals? A lot of teams don't even make 1 trade in a standard trade week, let alone one where teams are reticent to deal draft picks.

But yes, i'd be surprised if we are involved in even that many trades.

Have to be crazy to give up pick 19 for either of them IMO.

two possible deals

clubs have possible deals as well

but whether they happen or not is another story

we won't be very active

Why Armitage was 9th overall pick in the 06 draft, is only 20 and looks the goods.

That would be a good deal for us.

I would turn this around the other way by saying why would the saints consider giving up armitage for pick 19 esp if he is looking the goods? Why would he be traded and why is he what we are looking for (i have not watched a lot of saints games this year).

Don't see how he would improve our list. He's still working on his pace and skills/vision. Sounds similar to a bald headed youngster i know and he's streets ahead.

I agree with Ym on that one..

Dont be surprised, if the right offer comes along.. we'll jump @ it!!

I dont recon we have alot of young developing midfielders we need one realy good midfielder whoose quick n hard

(thats if we neeed a midfielder)

Jones, Davey & Sylvia will be the ones as listed by Ym that will field any offers from rival clubs that could raise any eyebrows. Or cause Melbfc to jump at.

The likes of Rivers and Moloney represent risks with their respective injuries and rehabilitation.

Dont want armitage. He's lazy!

Thers blokes like Robert Eddie getting games for ST Kilda above him.

MFC are done with Lazy players

last i checked. armitage was ahead of eddie at the saints mate

Eddy has had more stats in less game this year. But anyway iam not going to go into stats.

I have a couple of St Kilda mates who dont like him for his laziness as well. Apparently his work ethic isnt great.

WHo knows, that all may change if Bailey takes the reigns.

Well, I hope you at least can get used to Armitage, because right now, its looking quite likely..

As for us being active in trade week, no, we wont be overly active, as a whole this trade week will be high in number of deals, but the dees will only be looking at a couple of small deals at this stage.. as topping up is not an option, and with the GC on the way, none of our trade bait will land a decent pick..

Armitage to us for pick 19? Your dreaming  The saints took him with pick 8 and he showed a lot of improvement throughout the year and is going to be a great player . won't happen.

Since when is Jones trade bate, the guy is 21 and the brightest light for the future this team has! any team in the afl would happily take him because hes a gun and only getting better!

Yze_Magic, i recommend you post less comments and start watching more football

I love Trade week. Bring it on. Trade Smart Melbourne. This one will count more than others...

don't we all. it's a shame though, i reckon the deals that we've been negotiating behind closed doors won't go ahead cos we're soft . the real thing will be if we do, it means more people will get delisted! cos theres still a heap of deadwood on the list

You suggest I post less?

Show me where I suggested Nathan Jones as trade bait?

Please never post again.

If Melbourne is looking to trade a valued pick in 19 for Armitage, I assume they'll restructure his contract. With Armitage being a Queensland boy, you wouldn't want him to walk to GC17 after giving up a good pick for him.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
