Welcome back YM! Are you feeling OK? You ALMOST wrote something positive about Cam Bruce. I did find myself agreeing with most of your comments too! Maybe I am unwell too.

I see us putting time into a quality small defender who not only helps other younger players around him out but also helps the team.

Personally, I think an injury-free Whelan is worth playing over a young player because I think he could play for another 2-3 years easily. I could see him fulfilling his role at 31 if his body can take it.

Problem with Wheels is that being injury-free is almost an alien concept. If, in a year's time by round 12-13 he's missed 4-5 games, then I'd be opting for a younger player. But i think he can fulfill the role needed for the team better than any other player on our list at the moment.

But yes, personally I think it's worth playing him

Getting a bit old I think. Matty Whelan isnt god.

Maric is just so smart, and his ball use is first rate. Not sure why the negative comments.

As for Martin, he is simply phenomenal. To come from his background, having had so little time to adapt to AFL and be thrown into a bottom-team's defence is bloody hard. He has handled it like a champ... cool, calm and collected.

Warnock down back was also terrific by the way.

Yep. Maric, Martin and Warnock all good. Martin - I can see the "footy smarts" in him. And cool? He is like Ice! Nickname: "ICE?"

When was Bartram 19?

First year. 2006.

This is totally off-topic, but is a goal from outside 50 counted as an inside-50? Does anyone even know what I mean.

By the way, I assume it doesn't.

I think it would, after all it's got to sail through 50 for it to be a goal. Any statistic.., statistishtia... facts & figures guys who know for sure?? :D

My contribution:

Bell - not good enough.

in regards to a couple of players,

Maric- he just seems to have time, he gives the impression he is in total control of any situation he finds himself in.

Martin- is getting better, totally fearless going back, but the game isnt a reflex action for him YET he has to think first, but it will come, its great to see a big body in the backline.

Bartram, had a great third quarter, caused havoc as a small forward got his hands on alot of the ball.

I dont care what onyone says its great singing the song after the game.

And then the next day watching and tapeing it from foxtel, and still abusing the umpires for the amount of times they allowed the eagles to THROW the ball!

Bell - Unable to spoil

Anyone else noticed Bells inability to spoil the ball from behind even when it seems he is right on their hammer?

probably indicates how down on form and confidence he is, considering that last year his spoiling was his best asset.

although i cant say ive noticed it. who did he play on on saturday?

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
