This could well turn out to be the most important night in the club's history.

Its also important to think - how much does this save in the long run with regards to interest and the like? Its just enormous.

Yeah tell me about it, i don't understand it at all.

Perhaps he thought he'd stick around...?

I head they were reluctant to sign someone on a set contract in case there was a change of heart/board and we had to pay him out. Still, why put him on 460,000

170 people in attendence plus 25 people who couldn't make it, making it 195 x $6,000.

Total amount pledged to be announced in a minute.

You with ASIO or something??

Gee glad I wasn't there, they would have skun me out...

Great intelligence, Haydo. Thx.

Maybe Hutchy chipped in 8 grand for the inside scoop

Youre absolutely spot on Mickrocks..the Interest is a killer. Get rid of a lot of that and al lof a sudden even the same revenue stream gets much hightened results.

WOw! :o

That pulls the heart strings Haydo, that is just...overwhelming.

Many thanks from all. Now its up to the rest to eat away at the debt over August (and the interest too - yes BB).

BB you could be spot on with the $1.75m prediction. By the end of August $3mill could be wiped off!

Rogue, the three month "pay-out" is his payment for the three months he worked

If so, then there was no 'payout' at all - we had simply already paid him for work that he had done (ie. wages). I think it would be unlikely that there was no severance pay. It seems more likely that the 'payout' is equal to three months of work, as has been reported:

"McNamee lasted only 106 days, but will receive a payout believed to be $115,000, equal to three months of his annual salary at Melbourne."

http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/stor...5016161,00.html

"The Demons are contractually obliged to give the departing chief executive a payout of about $115,000."

http://news.realfooty.com.au/sport/paul-mc...80723-3jmn.html

If there was in fact no payout, we've done a terrible PR job.

That's why I used quotation marks, and why Distance Demon provided that summary.

Because we (or me at least) don't think it was a payout, but actually just payment for his time in the job. And i'm happy to be proven wrong, as that would correct my judgement on the matter

If this info eventuates, it'll be more than 1.75 i'm thinking

Foxtel are giving dollar for dollar, up to 100 grand, so that's 1.85M already by your estimates...

never so happy to be wrong !! :D ;)

Haha don't wanna be greedy but i'm hoping if half, 100 donate 6 thats 600, and 95 donate twice that, that's already about 1.75, not including if some put more in

never so happy to be wrong !! :D ;)

$2,013,000 the final amount raised.

No Ron Walker btw.

Don't think i've ever been so nervous away from gametime

Holy moley! That is amazing, our club is on the up people

GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS. i'm going to save as much as i can all month and donate as much as possible in one hit

$2,013,000 the final amount raised.

No Ron Walker btw.

Wholly siht!

Wow.

That's brilliant, that's this years $2million debt wiped off already!

That will be front page news tomorrow.

:blink::blink::o

well....thats ...quite...remarkable...

I am stoked with that effort. It still won't get the filth off the back and front pages though.

Tomorrow's Headlines:

DEMONS TURN CORNER

PIES LIES PUT CLUB IN TURMOIL

Thats fantastic news

Some very generous people have just help stabilise the foundations of this great club.

Thankyou each and every one.

Any calls from India by any chance Haydo??

Best news ive heard for a while. Its all well and good to demolish the debt but we really need to start making profits. This is a great start though

I read on big footy

"There is still one function left for the members who are willing to donate between the 500-1000 buck mark, so hopefully we can get 200-300k from that as well, a great start to wiping that 5 million debt."

ANyone know what this function is? I would be happy to go

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
