This week's squad

Featured Replies

True.

But one thing that Brown, Cloke and Pavlich, and Richo, have that sets them apart from the big forwards the game's seen in the past, and what makes them great now, is they are athletic, have big motors and are willing to run and present up the ground all day, and push back towards goal just as hard. Key position defenders at AFL level, more than ever, need athleticism and endurance over bulk. Gorrilla FB's like Ben Holland are a thing of the past, because gorilla forwards like Rocca and Q.Lynch are becoming rarer and rarer...

Correct on all points. I meant to bring up their athleticism but obviously forget lol.

and Demons32:

- Medhurst will jump all over Bartram. Need someone who can play taller on him

- As good as Wheatley may be the other way I can't see him containing Didak

- Davis probably has too much leg speed for McDonald, especially if he pushes forward

On the AFL website they have Frawley going out instead of Bell...

In: Bode, Carroll, Jamar, C. Johnson, Morton, Rivers

Out: Russell Robertosn (achilles), James Frawley, Simon Buckley

There must have been a mistake or something because both The Age and the HUN have Bell listed in the back pocket on Medhurst and Frawley is an out.

I cannot believe Bell is still in the team...

Frawley was injured at training - Bell is his replacement.

sorry guys havnt been kepping track but why cant Maric get a game with the abscence of Neitz and Robbo and Newton??

Well as far as I know (which isn't very far), Maric is in Year 12 and the club wants wants him to concentrate on finishing his VCE without the distractions of AFL footy.

Yze keeps his spot in the final team. Must only be because Robbo is out. Yze to stay in the forwardline, doesn't say much for Newton at present (unless he's still injured)

Hope Yze plays like he did a few QB's ago...

Juice is still injured... Hamstring...

Final side:

B: James McDonald, Colin Garland, Daniel Bell

HB: Brad Green, Matthew Warnock, Paul Wheatley

C: Cale Morton, Brock McLean, Cameron Bruce

HF: Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, Lynden Dunn

F: Paul Johnson, Colin Sylvia, Austin Wonaeamirri

Foll: Jeff White, Brent Moloney, Nathan Jones

I/C: Clint Bartram, Jace Bode, Jared Rivers, Adem Yze

Emg: Nathan Carroll, Mark Jamar, Chris Johnson

Final side:

The changes aren't so bad.

Bode for Buckley isn't terrible considering we need smalls in defence, and defensive workrate is one area where Buckley is letting himself down atm.

Morton for Robertson isn't exactly like-for-like, but I've enjoyed watching Morton this season.

Rivers for Frawley is a win.

Melbourne Squad

Backline: J.McDonald, C.Garland, J.Frawley

Half Backs: B.Green, M.Warnock, P.Wheatley

Centreline: C.Morton, B.McLean, C.Bruce

Half forwards: M.Bate, B.Miller, L.Dunn

Forwards: P.Johnson, C.Sylvia, A.Wonaeamirri

Followers: J.White, B.Moloney, N.Jones

Interchange from: C.Bartram, J.Bode, N.Carroll, M.Jamar, C.Johnson, J.Rivers, A.Yze

Team Changes

In: J.Bode, N.Carroll, M.Jamar, C.Johnson, J.Rivers,

Out: R.Robertson (injured) , D.Bell, S.Buckley ( omitted)

Hoping the side lines up as this.

Bartram Warnock Rivers

Wheatley Garland Mcdonald

Morton Jones Green

Bate Miller Bruce

Johnson Sylvia Wonaeamirri

White Mclean Mcdonald

Yze CJ Moloney Jamar

So final ins: CJ, Jamar, Morton, Rivers

Final outs: Robbo (inj), Dunn, Frawley, Bell

Bartram to not let Medhurst get a touch.

Warnock to take Rocca.

Garland to take Cloke.

Wheatley to take Didak and make him accountable the other way.

Mcdonald to shut down Davis.

CJ to stop Daisy, big job, only something I want.

Rivers to spend his day playing his zone and helping out as much as possible.

u have junior on the backflank and on the ball. otherwise i agree with the jobs

Maric is completing year12 part time over two years so that he can attend most of the training sessions and be considered for selection.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
