Have been wondering and this probably shows I have too much time on my hands right now, but, with regards to success of Football teams or lack of success and their history of draft choices. Now we know Carlton have had umpteen first round draft picks priority picks add nauseum and some teams seem to be quite successful without such high picks.

Now, bare wih me here, if a draft average could be placed on a team list what would ours be?

Given that most players enter the AFL for the first time through the National draft and they would have an order/number they were drafted. How do we stack up against others?

Bit facetious here but I reckon the Tanks have an average in single figures !!!!!!!!!!

Teams like Adelaide seem to do very well along with Brisbane, Bombers etc

I'm just trying to find where we are falling down over the years!!!

If you've got as much time on your hands as you suggest how about you do some calculations based on the following:

National Draft Number - 1 = 1, 8 = 8 and 25 = 25, that's simple

Rookie Draft Promotion = 65

Pre-Season Draft = 65 if delisted and whatever they were originally selected at if they walked of their own accord. Eg Nick Stevens would be a 25 (his original draft pick). The same could apply to trades.

If you use a system like that you could compare teams. You'd probably have to base it on the clubs best 22 rather than their entire list. I'm not sure it would tell you much. Perhaps it would show who has used rookies and recycled players most effectively and who has placed their hopes in high drafts picks.

I'd certainly be interested in your results if you have a crack at this.

There will allways be those who can't make it.

To this end it's really unfair to blame CAC for the failure of all those recruited who have gone.

Is it CACs fault that Travis Johnston is now starring, was it CACs fault that Scott Thompson went back to Adelaide to get opportunities that now see him captain, can we blame him for Darren Jolly's failure at Melbourne???

Actually wasn't pointing the finger at anybody or anything, it was just an academic exercise that might be of interest, though I have thought that our football department have not made the best of what we have got/had and that has been the case for a long time.

We certainly seem to be constantly in a rebuilding phase, talk about building the bloody piramids

I must disagree with some of those comments my good man.

Trapper starring is a bit rich, he is playing the same game he played with us but is in a better side of players drafted by the brisbane back room staff.

CAC should have be aware of Thommo's h@moness sorry homesickness, no stone unturned (being fascitious)

Jol's failure??? What failure they traded him away as he didn't want to be 2nd fiddle. Danners hardly played any other ruckman, they traded Symmo too as they though they would get better trade value than actual game time value for the both of them as white was so far away our best option.

CAC is waaaayy over rated for his early round draft work, his late round, rookie drafts have been exceptional for us
