Would look at Monfries.

Stanton would require a pick which I don't think we would give up.

McPhee might be worth a look.

Thoughts?

Monfries - has terrrrrible disposal. Is pretty short, not particularly fast and has shocker skills. To prove my point, he wouldn't be in Essendon's best 28 players. The only reason why he's playing atm is bc of injuries. My mates who are Essendon supporters hate him.

McPhee - is an ok player, but has been really really bad this season. In fact hasn't been playing his best footy for 2 yrs now. He's basically a flanker, and i dont see him as an improvement at all on Sylvia, Miller, Bate, or Dunn.

Stanton - I rate the kid. He's only 21 and getting number 1 tag each week. but his role has changed this year- he no longer plays in the midfield, more across the flanks n gets easy disposals. His possessions are almost completely ineffective and his disposal has deterioirated ALOT this year (which has been quite surprising to me). Turns the ball over consistently...

If we're gonna trade then we shouldn't be looking at Essendon.

I'd more be looking at team's like Hawthorn (Dowler, Thorp or Boyle???) or Geelong (Varcoe, Prismall???), or some kid trying to get back to Victoria (R. Warnock??)

Only Stanton... MAYBE Monfries but only if it was for a low draft pick, which it wouldn't be.

I wouldn't even bother looking at Essendon. They are in the same boat as us, so why pick up a player that they think won't be in their next premiership side? A player I'd move heaven and earth for, a young Victorian, Steven Salopek.

welcome to demonland Mike...

one player i'd consider would be winderlich... but again the bombers would want more than what I would give up...

Would be great to get this kid, but he has started to play some really good football this year and I cannot see him leaving Port Fairy Power in a hurry! :(

From the little of Essendon I've seen, Stanton seems okay. Not sure about his disposal though, but seems to have a willingess to 'break the lines'.

I can't see the value in picking up McPhee.

I would look at Stanton; I can't see Essendon offering him though.

I agree with you Mike. Salopek is a gun. Of the Essendon players, I would give serious consideration to Winderlich and Dyson who are young and have pace to burn, and I don't think we would have to give up much to get them.

Stanton is worth a look. Not worth paying heavily for.

There are so many sides that will look at rebuilding (thankfully for us we did a big clean out last year, so with a few guys hanging up the boots, we can officially pick up a few players to help rebuild), so many players will be on offer.

Salopek is a gun, so i am with you there guys, go after him.

As for hawthorns list, there are some good player not getting games. Given they will be needing to free some cap room, aa few mid contract types could become available at a good price (or free). same deal at the cattery. Worth poking around the unwanted players of the talented clubs before we go and poke through the lists of clubs in a similar position to us.

I'm keen on Stanton and Andrew Lovett but they'll cost more then a pretty penny. Not worth the price IMO.

I'm still keen on Jason Laycock. He's price is very low atm and there's enough talent there to work with. Pick 50-60 is my finishing bid.

(Warnock still first priority but if that folds, i'll have a look at Laycock). Plays well as the number one ruckman but turns into a sook when Hille plays.

Pj, Meesen? could provide good no. 2's.

I'll be wary of picking up Geelong and Hawthorn players with quality picks. Check for the Chris Heffernan and Chad Fletcher effect. Don't overpay for players who play well because of their quality teammates.

We will be better off keeping our draft picks

In one sense you're right. However, the obvious flipside is that their stronger lists means it's tougher for someone to break into the team than it is at most other Clubs.

Why is that ( salopek)?

what would we have to do to get him. And why?

Love a reply

Be interesting to see 2 Daveys in red and blue

I would think if we were going to look at players from other clubs we would be utilizing the inside knowledge of DB and CC. Port and Freo.

Personally I wouldn't go for any Essendon player.

Dyson and Laycock show something maybe worth the punt with a late pick.

McPhee is a 1 year wonder.

Lovett-Murray is useless.

Stanton is overrated just another stat man who does nothing with the ball they will want too much for him.

The players I would be looking at for trade\drafts time would be:

Key Forward: Hanson

Ruck: Warnock

Midfielder: Prismall

Having read an article in one of the Herald Sun 150 Years of Football magazines, I'm confident the real Mike Sheahan would never refer to Melbourne as 'us'.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
