Forget the Shiraz, try the Malbec. In the interests of uplifting this thread as Ernie has been imploring recently, I thought the various Legal Eagles who inhabit this thread might be interested in this set of books I stumbled upon in a Jesuit library in Córdoba, Argentina today while taking a short break from my arduous wine tasting duties. The books date from the early 1700’s and were part of a library of 10,000 books, some stretching back to when printing first began. Unfortunately when the Jesuits were kicked out of South America in 1754 many of the books on science and philosophy were burned by the Franciscians as they were deemed to be heretical!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Oscar plays off scratch and recently won the AFL longest drive comp with a drive of 292m. What is May’s handicap that’s what I need to know!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I hope so we need a decision from Hoges pronto!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
No not pushed out the door, more the case that he would not commit to an extension beyond 2019 so we are moving early as you say while the price is right. Not because he struggles for distance on kicks for heavens sake. You pass on a potential 60 goal a year key position forward at your own peril and certainly not for a gorilla marking backman a la Sam May by choice. I think the FD believe he is going if not this year, then next year.

Yes this possibility crossed my mind as well. I haven’t followed all the media discussions closely enough but with Josh Mahoney saying that we couldn’t get May unless Hogan decides to go and Hogan supposedly only recently asking if a trade back home was possible this year and then hearing that the Club has spoken to May on two occasions already.....well something doesn’t seem to add up! I think the club put it on Hogan to extend his contract past 2019 now and if he didn’t commit they decided to act.

Could be off to the Swans, family issues, father passed away during the year, and AVB has been trying to run the family business in Canberra from here. Hope he stays.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Well yes if he stood on the grassy knoll I suppose. But then that knoll was chock full of Mafia, FBI, CIA, KKK and Cuban Operatives as I remember. Very crowded at the time.

Maybe but today’s GF result has just improved his stocks in the competition. West Coast have won a cup with traditional big bodied defenders who could hold the line early. Intercept marking forwards are great and so are receiving half back runners but old fashioned big bodied marking KPB will now be well sort after.

Cut down in his prime, could have been anything really. We will never know.

No fair enough as we have a no hillbilly/bogan policy here in Fitzroy. By the way Bistro Sou Sou has finally opened for business in Gertrude Street. As you know the former Madame Sou Sou bistro in Brunswick Street never really recovered from your visit some 2 or 3 years ago. Sad affair really but now they are fighting their way back. Great to see.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
Based on today’s game let’s not panic but let’s unload half the list as too old or too slow or lacking poise under pressure. That is assuming we have ready made and improved replacements.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
As long as Lewis is willing to play the role that is best for the club, like Bernie, I say he goes on and if/when his time is up he happily finishes his contract at Casey and hopefully helps the coaches, then lock it in for 2019. No use looking for scapegoats based on today’s debacle. Going by the player ratings TMac had a shocker but that was because our system collapsed and guys like TMac were being thrown around to put out spot fires down back, up forward, on the wing and in the ruck. Similar thinking with Jones. My thinking is Jones has been asked to play a linking role off the wing this year and specifically instructed not to get in the way of Oliver, Viney, Harmes and Brayshaw as they can get ball and handball to a target in traffic better than Jones. In the first half today we didn’t see Jones because we didn’t get a clearance. After half time he started accumulate as we as a team did. Still worth another year.

1964 memories- calling our older supporters
1964 I was a six year old in a MFC family but we went skiing up at Perisher Valley! The old man got a bit complacent, thought there would be many more finals to be played. He was born in Cooma and was keen to get back to his early days skiing in the Snowy Mountains pre WWII. We loved it and I can still remember my first run down a slippery slope, so no issue with missing the GF.

Watched him today at training. When they were doing a goal kicking drill from different positions and evading players to kick goals he was very accurate. The boy can actually kick. The knock on him is his tendency to bomb the ball, this can be fixed with some coaching I believe. Plus he genuinely wants to improve, you see it at every training session. He is a keeper in my mind.
