  1. Phantom drafts I've read didn't have Gysberts being drafted until the mid 20's. Unbelievable we took him at 11 when could've picked a half decent tall like Carlisle or Black. Sigh.....

Carlisle would have been a nightmare pick for our club.

If we got him it wouldve been terrible trying to post on threads such as "play him chf or chb.

Where will we play Dunn, tommy mac and garland .These conundrums would never cease if we got Carlisle.

  2. We didn't even know his foot was rooted when we tried to ship him off to Tigers, so is it that much of a stretch that we failed to realise he was playing on it injured? Incompetence- that's all it is, it was rife through the club and it probably extended to the medical department.

Im very suspicious of our management of Trengoves ans MC's injuries. I think both were played when they shouldn't have been. We had/have a sub standard injury diagnosis and management team- move them on!

not sure of the actual JT injury,But many have played through these types of injury.

Apparently scans can be a bit hard to judge.

And we have evidence of blokes players many years with a bit of help to get through the game with this injury.

His injury might have been managed{J.Hird}did this until he collapsed against carlton one night and it was discoverd further action was needed.

So good management may have taken place and further complications may have developed.

  3. Good older batsmen: Rogers (37), Clark (33)

Good young batsmen: Steve Smith (25), Warner (27)

All rounder: Watson (33), Marsh? Faulkner?

    Keeper: Haddin (37)

Older bowlers: Johnson (32), Harris (35)

Decent bowlers/prospects: Siddle (29), Pattinson, Cummings etc

    Spinners; Lyon (26), O'Keefe

The problems with the current aussie team are:

    1. Spin bowling - Lyon's played a lot now and seemed to plateau. But at the same time he's young enough. Can't give up on him but he looks only serviceable at best

    2. Fast bowling decline - Harris and Johnson played career peak seasons last year, but it's unlikely they can do it again. Siddle is a good 3rd support. The young guys need to step up

    3. Haddin and Rogers - 2 cornerstones of our team at the start and the end of the batting line up but they are also likely to decline soon

    4. What to do at 3 and 6? We don't have an answer to either. I think our best line up is Hughes and Watson. But they just haven't given Hughes a good shot of it and Watson can't stay healthy. I'm staggered to know why M Marsh got the shot at 6 ahead of Faulkner

If we don't add another good young batsmen and get one of the bowlers to stay fit then we will be in trouble.

Pattinson,Starc and Cummings will be there foe the next decade. No problems there.

Lyon{nude nuts}has played pretty bloody good for an average and has deserved his rewards.

Hughes has a problem with spin, pace and swing bowling.

Doolan has dropped 3 sitters that b graders would be embarassed about so far,and his batting hasnt been that good yet.

Okeefe didnt look anything dangerous or exciting from what i saw.

We just struggle to produce slow wicket players,Yallop and Martyn are the only ones i can think of.

  4. I see McCartney coached Ocean Grove to four successive premierships in 1994-95-96-97.

We'll be fine with that record....

Hey, wait a minute???? Haven't I seen that soenmwhere before????

Maybe Ocean Grove must have very compliant players that aren't Gen XYZ etc..

Grubbers{yes thats their nickname}have more money for players than most afl clubs.

Not that difficult to coach a flag there.

  5. I must say I’m disgusted by the commodification and simplistic sexualisation of the female body in recent posts on this thread.

I was involved in a discussion group at church today and we agreed that sexualised images of the female form only serves to reiterate simplistic gender stereotypes and, thereby, promote and reinforce gender inequality.

Too much gymnasium for you big fella.

  6. After this year he'll be lost to cricket. He's no good. And he'll then be long odds to rebuild his footy career. He chose cricket because it was his favourite sport. Cricket Vic offered him a better deal than the base AFL contract but neither guaranteed much. It was more cricket stepped up to the mark. T20 definitely offers a chance of big earnings for state based cricketers. But it's not every one.

Thats right, but by lifting the afl draft age,Young men like him whether they are good enough or not, will take the option for the next sport.

  7. Great idea but ...

Young talent can and would be lost to other sports ... t20 cricket or cricket in general, soccer, union, league, basketball, baseball etc. All those sports offer great opportunities and $$$'s.

It's not just about the sport that talented sportspeople choose, it's also about the money. At 14 or 15 years old, a career path is often chosen for the talented one's ... waiting around 5 or 6 years may not appeal.

The AFL are paranoid about other sports as it is ... by rights, they would have most likely lifted the draft age by now but there's probably a good reason that they haven't.

A better way might be that draftees could not only get paid as they are now, but have limits placed on how many games they can play in their first couple of years and ... they could also be required to keep up some tertiary studies (part time?)

Spot on.Identification of future sports people starts at an earlier age and all parents and kids are aware of this.

Young Keath? from vic cricket can attest to this.Lost to footy because crivic offered a better deal.

  8. Fair question dc. Clint could go either way. Jizza would definitely be a "butter makes it better man". Your Cal poppy assertion is controversial though - It is based on a number of assumptions regarding the activity at hand. I'll leave it to Biffen for an authoritative answer.

no doubt you are a brylcream man bbo, judging on your avatar

you were probably the kid at school filling old brylcream jars with sump oil and turning a nice profit

Geez. You guys sound like you're from the Brut 33 era. Or - Norm Smith forbid - Hai Jakarta! I'll give you some credit and assume you don't go back as far as Old Spice (1st time around).

Still gotta case of Uncle Sam left,If anybody wants a can let me know.{not 1972 prices though]

  9. Agree Macca, we seem to be in deep sh*t.

We havent had the ability to play "slow" wickets for many years.

Marsh looked comfortable for a debutant on a slow wicket.

Doolan =i cant get a handle on whether hes gonna make it.

  10. I'm struggling to resist looking forward to season 2015.

The MFC is like a wayward girlfriend, who just needs to wriggle her hips and I come creeping back.

Only, 5 months of hip swinging to go...

Love the hip wriggling and enjoy every part of off season.

Although wont be the same without Blease,Morton,"Col" and a few other park champs training the shouse down.

Looking forward to R1 and the whole season,Thinking we make the 8 and maybe pinch a final.

Anyway back to the tasmanian beer for me.

  11. 4/219 at stumps, exciting stuff in front of an abysmal crowd.

Dean Jones spoke about the crowd and explained everybody over there is on work permits,They cant get 'time off"

He also said they were looking to play day/night tests as the weather would be perfect and after 6 would be a regular sell-out.

    Doolan drops a sitter.

Rogers just misses latching onto a super difficult one.

Okeefe's action looks very bush league,Hope its just the first test nerves.

Pitch will turn into a nightmare if you dont have patience.
