A Day at the Races
Ha ha, why wouldn’t the Basil be rowdy and boisterous? We just made the finals!!!!!!! I like the Japanese horses, had success with Delta Blues in the 2006 Melbourne Cup and Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup. Shame what happened with the latter in the aftermath of the 14’ Melbourne Cup.

Good idea Wadda, will start researching early for the Cups. Here’s an article on three imports, Tosen Basil included.....interesting comments by Weir. Weir said Admire Robson and Cassius were on their best behaviour while Tosen Basil needed to improve his race-day manners. "He's was quite rowdy and boisterous, something that needs a bit of work on," Weir said. https://www.racenet.com.au/news/weir-trained-japanese-gallopers-go-through-their-paces-at-ballarat-20180819

Melbourne Cup Watch? Just watched Marmelo run in the Group 2 Darley Prix Kergorlay at Deauville. Sent out a $1.80 favourite and couldn’t reel in the eventual winner. Finished second by a couple of lengths and looked to hang towards the outside down the straight. Race caller feels he lowered his colours today. He’s in the markets for the Cups, unsure about plans on coming down under though.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Maybe we can give this a rest for a while. Hogan has done his bit to help us get to the September, hope his recovery goes well and let’s look forward to Weideman for whatever comes for the remainder of the season.

Haha Wadda. I believe West Brom have kept some of their EPL class players after been relegated. The good thing about their high scoring matches is eventually they will go under the 2.5 goals where if your lucky enough you could find some real value in excess of $2.00. Penrith....well what can you say?? Top 4 on the line with a couple of weeks to go in the season and they drop a game against a team that’s out of contention for finals at home.

Nice work Macca. The Juventus game had a thrilling finish with VAR coming into play late. They scored a go ahead goal to make it 3-2 nearing the end only to be taken away after the review.....but as these top teams seem to do frequently, they managed to find a winner moments later. Thrilling finish and entertaining to watch.

Well done to Macca only, they were his picks above Wadda. My picks, not even close but that’s the good part about having a range of selections, take a long shot multi or like Macca says....pick the brains out of it and do as you please. Some money coming in for the Dees, steadily lowering our odds to $2.20 and the line coming in to +6.5. The previous line of +7.5 for us took some substantial bets. Keep an eye out on West Bromwich games in the Champioship from now on and specifically the total over/under option. Their first four games have netted a total of 20 goals. A 7-1 win overnight.

No good again with my pick. Maybe a tad too far back but taking nothing away from Fiesta. Was backed with late money also.

A Day at the Races
I’ve missed the early viewing of the racing today thanks to my beautiful wife having our daughter’s new bed delivered. Conversation went a little something like this. Me: Hon, there’s someone at the door with a few big boxes. Wife: Oh, cool....Moo’s new bed is here. Me: Huh? Wife: You know, the delivery I’ve been telling you about all week. Me: Um.... Ok....does assembly come as part of the delivery package? Wife: Dear God.....maybe I should join Demonland and post our plans so you can read them.?? The wife is definitely a keeper.

Sorry fellas, received a tip yesterday and forgot to mention it, that’s how a good a tip it must be. Randwick Race 3 Number 7 Gwenneth @13.15 $12.00 All I got told was to back it. Hmmm....maybe something small each way.....last thing we want is more PL.

I initially thought Geelong by a big margin like 60+ but the predicted weather (hail, thunder, wind) might have a part to play in the final margin. I have opted for GWS 1-39 $2.25 against the Swans as a second leg. NRL: Penrith 13+ vs Newcastle $2.15 @15:00 Sat. AFL: GWS 1-39 v Swans $2.25 @16:35 Sat.

Best Bet Royal Randwick Race 4 Number 3 Oohood $2.40 Now that the filly has tasted victory albeit a jumpout at Flemington over 800m a couple of weeks back, there’s no stopping her from here. She’s actually never won a barrier trial either before the jumpout. I think she’s high class and the trainer believes she would even love it up to a mile. 6 placings from 6 starts with prizemoney just under $1mil.

A Day at the Races
I was listening to RSN this morning during school drop-off and heard the news of Torcedor, a once early market favourite for the Melbourne Cup being bought by a German consortium. Connections apparently decided against bringing the horse to Oz for the Cup but the offer to sell was too good to refuse. A Melbourne Cup trip might be back on for the horse.....watch this space. Currently @$26 and $7.25.

I’ll have a go at the NRL. 3 weeks to go until finals and in my opinion any of the top 6 could win the premiership. After countless last minute comebacks by the Penrith Panthers the 13+ @$2.15 for them represents some value. This might be the week where they start well and wipe the Knights off the park.

160th Anniversary Jumper
Anyone on here get their ‘members’ name on the jumper? I hope we win this week otherwise it won’t end well come round 23 when you read the below from the MFC article. The reason it will be worn in the final round is part of ‘Member thank you round’.

A Day at the Races
Can’t wait for the Spring Carnival to be honest, having a tough time following our Demons at the moment, can’t imagine how we could handle September if we made it. Anyways, here’s a list of big races that Santos is nominated in, why not aim high when your horse is trained by the Waterhouse/Bott combo. Golden Rose Stakes [Group 1] 1400m 22nd September Caulfield Guineas 1600m 13th October Ladbrokes Cox Plate 2040m 27 October [49kg] I will update on lead-up races as they come to hand. Could be a very exciting Spring. The horse is not guaranteed to be running in any of the above races but mapping out a prep is essential. Hopefully it all goes to plan.
