Of course players are to blame for their shocking skills. But the fundamental game plan is flawed. It’s a high risk low reward. It doesn’t play to our strengths at all.
We refuse to play a second target up forward which is forcing the players to bomb long as we have no leading targets. We also don’t pressure the ball carrier at half back which means the ball rebounds straight out and the back line is all at sea and the opposition can pick a whole host of players unmanned.Of course they are coached to stop the ball carrier, but they don't do it, solution?

Agree. Our use of the ball is the AFL’s worst. There is no system or game plan.
That is not emotive rubbish, it is fact. Not sure which bit people don't get, we get glimpses of the game plan like the Melksham goal, but if players make simple skill errors and wrong decisions, what is the point?

Just now, President Dee Trump said:
Now I understand the game plan! Get the ball, look for an opposition player on his own in the middle of nowhere and kick it directly to him.
That is not the game plan, can't we lay the blame at the players for a change or is that too hard

Well the players aren’t responsible for not selecting another key forward, to give us at least a chance of taking a contested mark inside 50. That is a joke.
It is pointless if we take the wrong option constantly, we have players who can work one on one, if the ball is delivered quickly and properly
It seems to me that players are afraid to take responsibility, it is up to Gawn and Viney to drive this
It beggars belief that players are coached to make fundamental errors
-
All the emotive rubbish as usual, Richmond are forcing us into fundamental errors, it's the players not the coach

You’re idea of reason and balance is unique old mate.
I’ll give you that.
At least they are unique, rather than the small herd mentality that prevails on here, where some posters will offer a statement, not an opinion, without knowing any of the facts, and that statement becomes fact, such as below
On 7/1/2020 at 10:03 AM, TheoX said:Presumably the ridiculous 3 and 4 year contracts for KK and Preuss were Mahoney's idea too.

Goodness me.
The ‘sweet irony’ in almost everything you post is quite amazing.
Good job
Amazing, why thank you, I try and bring a bit of balance to the perpetually over critical input from some posters
Mahoney is doing his job, he may not get everything right, but hey only the bloke in the ermine robes in Rome is supposed to be infallible and he backed up Pell

We traded a first round pick for a first round pick.
We cashed in on what we knew was a strong first round. We backed ourselves in to be better in 2020. That's precisely the sort of attitude this club should have. Doing the opposite would just be "accepting mediocrity", wouldn't it?
FFS.
There's plenty to question about Mahony and the decisions our club makes in many areas. I really, really, do not think this is one of them.
Correct in your assertion in the first paragraph unfortunately you are replying to some posters who let emotion get in the way of thought or rationale
Agree with the second, but unfortunately none on here are in the Inner Sanctum of the Club, so have no idea of the background, raison dieter for some of the decisions, we only see, in some cases the outcome
Unless you have been in a managerial position, you don't have the experience or knowledge to know and understand the 'politics' behind some decisions, and even then a footy club is a completely different beast
If Pert and the Board decide Mahoney has to go, that will happen, if they don't no amount of huffing and puffing on here will change that

Vicious? I hope you sleep with the light on
Not having a go at supporters per se just the small minority of whiners on here, all mouth and trousers or all wind and [censored]
As @Wiseblood has said, let's get the whole list of staff from the Chairman down and start a topic ' are they the right guy'
If success is not forthcoming, change will happen
Just depends on the intestinal fortitude of all concerned to see how long before action is taken
As I have said, there are avenues to air your discontent, unfortunately it takes a person to come out from behind a cloak of anonymity
Or you can continue to whinge and whine on here
Intestinal fortitude
Using that phrase see if @Ethan Tremblay can come up with his usual witheringly funny gif or meme NOT

Dead set confirmed. You are a plant and do not like supporters upsetting your cosy complicet apple cart. Pass the camembert, oh is there a game on as well as all this food, wine and grovelling to the hierachy.
Nah, not a fan of blowhard couldabeens who do nothing but whinge and whine
We keep having AGM and last year a Members Forum, do the blowhards stand up and air their grievances at a forum they can?
Nah, they prefer to snipe from behind the anonymity of a nickname
I am certainly not happy with some of the decisions made, but given the opportunity I have expressed that face to face, like men do (sorry ladies)
I have no desire to devote my time to being a Board Member at a footy club, it is a particularly thankless task at Melbourne
If you want to create change, get yourself on the Board, it is a right as a fully paid up member, if you are one, to put yourself forward for election
More a tasty cheddar or maasdam man myself
You also seem to be saying that the club is doing something unlawful or morally wrong as that is the meaning of complicit, if that was the word you were reaching for
Of course I keep forgetting that there is an air of infallibility amongst the posters on Demonland, never made a mistake or wrong move, particularly in their work life

Supporters sick of talk, you wouldn't think so from the pages and pages of waffle from the couch bound Chairmen, CEOs, Football Managers and Coaches on here

Which is exactly your personality type. Instead of criticizing performance of player, coach or club you specialice in criticising those who have an opinion.
Nah, chap, I do point out players, like Lockhart cost 2 goals trying to play on, he'll learn from it
Not criticising, just think the bit about emotional involvement is overblown
Specialice an Italian pasta?

I'm happy for you that you can detach yourself from any kind of passion or emotional investment in the game mate, but I don't think you speak for the "majority of supporters" if that's your approach.
Eek, it's just a game of footy, emotional investment in my family is much more important
I think you will find, that a lot supporters get [censored] off with a loss, but it is over the next day, most have much more important things to think about

This is the problem though. This gets said EVERY year. Just reckon the majority of the supporter base have had enough of that mentality.
Make no mistake, if things don't get better this could very well end up being a turbulent year for our club.
Personally I think the majority of supporters just support, yes we would all like a bit of success, but footy is a game, doesn't impact majorly on your life if there is a loss.
If it does you really need to look at your life in general
There is just a small group of miseries on here that will whinge and whine no matter what

That is true. It looks like we don’t know what to do. We don’t man the goal line on a shot and we keep the ball in, when we are standing on the boundary line near their point post. Then we don’t man up in defence allowing short passes to guys on their own.
That is the result of a poorly coached, poorly selected and poorly organised team.
This bomb it in game is a disaster.
Wow, everybody on here was crying to get Lockhart in, he cost 2 goals with crucial errors
He wasn't coached I am sure to take players on inside the 50
Other errors are players not doing what they are coached to do
You can't coach skill errors

You really do need to get out more, if your footy team is the most important thing in your life
We made a few crucial defensive errors, must say Goodwin MUST HAVE coached them to make those errors

We lost the game through crucial defensive errors, Geelong didn't

Thanks for the advice.
You can leave now.
I am going to, get ready to watch the game at local pub
Nice chicken parma, few schooners of summer able, hopefully watch an entertaining game
A Melb win, looking forward to seeing AVB and Hannan, black, sad Nev is not out there, form dropped a bit
Nobody will die if we lose, it is only footy

Nice to see all the 'supporters' up nice and early, lovely day to be so [censored] miserable
Just watch the game, then we can have multiple pages of post game angst, no matter the result

One thing that will really annoy today, if Hibberd keeps kicking his long bombs to no one that seem to hang in the air forever, allowing the defenders to zone off. Has he lowered his eyes ever ?

You can practice and practice and practice, but it matters little on game day, not sure which bit you comedians don't get, it is the onfield leadership, which is sadly lacking today
