Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
Didn't JT try everything to trade this pick upwards but nobody was biting? That's my memory of it. Pretty clear why too. Super weak draft aside from 5 guys at the pointy end. Even Clark at Geelong, touted as the next Selwood, looks like he may not make it. Tsatas and Phillipou were top 10 picks too and they are on shaky ground. Busslinger at pick 13 has only just debuted for the Dogs. As far as talls go, Gruzewski was a few picks after Jeffo and looks ok, but can't get a game at GWS. Presume he'll be traded. Otherwise Weddle at 18 is the only star player after Jefferson, Darcy Jones is a really good role player in the ANB mould, and then you have Joe Richards way later on was an okay mature ager. Michalaney was F/S so is excluded.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Hawthorn
JVR kicked 5 in the VFL last time out, didn't he? Chandler also isn't a small forward. He's very clearly playing between the arcs.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Hawthorn
Game was pretty indicative of where we are. Nowhere near as bad as we looked rds 2-5, but a bit of a shadow of our old self. Relying a lot on a select few guys delivering their role every single week - namely Gawn, McDonald, Melksham, Bowey, Langford, Petracca, Langford, Pickett, Chandler. When any of these guys lower their colours, like TMac in the final quarter today, nobody else seems to step up to replace them. Some real good youth who I have a lot of faith in, but equally a couple of young guys who are tilting towards busts. Jefferson and Tholstrup the obvious candidates, and whilst it breaks my heart to say because he did look good, JVR isn't far away. Out: Fritsch - made Sicily, the guy in the worst form of his career, look unreal. Barely even applied percieved pressure, never mind actual pressure. And I've been a defender of his. Jefferson - absolutely nowhere near it, unfortunately. Tholstrup - I said it when he debuted and I'll say it again - there are no clear strengths to his game. What was Taylor thinking? Hope he comes good, but he has a lot to do. In: Melksham - football smarts Petty - can't believe he's the answer again, but here we are Laurie - deserves another go Oliver for Viney and JVR for Fullarton are both tempting changes too. Fullarton can barely play, but there's something in his and Petty's ability to stay out of eachother's way.

CASEY: Rd 04 vs UWS Giants
Worst team to play against in the VFL when you have no confidence. Those two are starting defenders at most clubs. No need to overreact.

Time to go Goody?
And for those of us who have circumstances preventing us from attending Gosch's Paddock on weekdays? Your obtuse response just demonstrates how little you have to go on to back up your points. Happy to end our discussion.

Time to go Goody?
There are two players on the list from 2011. They'd played about 3 games between them at that point. The only common denominator is the President.
-
Time to go Goody?
So explain to me what its meant to look like. We didn't see it in the pre-season games or any of the first 5. What is it?
-
What gets you excited about the club?
For the first time since 2013, what I'm excited/hopeful about it seeing the coach give his final press conference and a genuinely reliable operator (Smith now, Jackson then) start the assent back to where we need to be.

Time to go Goody?
This is just nonsensical. Can you explain to me in clear terms what this new game plan is? Because the eye test suggests that it is about chipping it around precisely whilst also never, ever presenting out of forward 50. Meaning a dump kick has to happen, even if nobody makes a basic error in the 10+ kicks out of defence. This is not the same game plan as modern teams are playing where they chain handpasses, move fast and take risks. Your assertion that essentially every player is lazy because they can't play footy like you want them to just doesn't stack up.
-
Time to go Goody?
So you're saying that Goody lacks selection integrity, right? He backed Fritsch to get better when he was poor. He got better. He dropped him anyway.
-
Time to go Goody?
They're all out of form, which means they've no idea what they're doing. Are you honestly advocating for the club to clear out an entire playing list to save the coach?
-
Time to go Goody?
Can you explain why he laid 200%+ tackles (5) last week compared to our three small forwards combined (2)

Kozzy Homesick & Wants to Leave?
In 2022 we were fighting for a flag. Right now, we're fighting for a win. But by all means drop Kozzy - arguably our best player - for a couple of guys not setting the world alight at VFL level. Great way to increase his trade value and keep kids engaged at the footy.
-
Letter from Brad Green
Smith is doing exactly what he said he'd do. Take a year off, become President. How can you blame him?

Kozzy Homesick & Wants to Leave?
Yep. Wouldn’t want to rock the boat too much. If you thought 0-5 was bad, imagine how bad it would be without Goody!!

PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Fremantle
Out: Sparrow - what can you even say? He's not good at a single thing, and the guys around him aren't good enough to hide that anymore. At least JJ could run. Sparrow has been gifted 100 games. What role does he play? Non-goal kicking/non-tackling/non-marking high half forward? Sharp - can't do much besides run and kick the odd goal. Why not play him on the wing? JVR - so out of touch its actually damaging. Let him kick a couple of bags and reset at Casey. An Anzac Eve call up is his carrot. Henderson to sub - clever player, but not much of an impact from the start. In: McVee - finally allows Rivers to move to full time mid Jefferson - showed something, will hopefully just lead. I'm not optimistic but I'm hopeful. Fullarton - has to come in off his Casey form. Petty to stay back to combat their insane number of KPFs. McVee - May - Petty Salem - McDonald - Bowey Chandler - Oliver - Langdon Melksham - Jefferson - Fritsch Pickett - Fullarton - Spargo Gawn - Petracca - Rivers Langford - Lindsay - Windsor - Viney Henderson

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
The move to defence has robbed him of his confidence. He now looks proppy and uncertain. Well done Simon and his little mate Nathan.

Time to go Goody?
The club had an absolute stench to it at the time. We were a shambles behind the scenes. Remember Paul McNamee? Cameron Schwab I and II? The revolving door of Presidents after Gutnick? Don't think the coaches were helped by that, but it wasn't their sackings that led to our horrible mess of a club. Neale, you could argue, deserved more time - but our list was so inconsistent. Bailey was the victim of Schwab having this club so far up its own **** for things it achieved 50 years earlier. At the same time, the culture festered under him. A loss of that magnitude was always going to be hard to survive. I was impressed when WCE stuck by Simpson after they lost by 171 to the Swans, but it turned out there wa no turnaround and losing by that much generally means your team is shot/not trying.

Time to go Goody?
I have yet to see a shred of evidence of what the plan is after we've done our 10 chip kicks. What's the next kick? How are we moving into our attacking half, never mind forward 50? The long kick down the line appears baked in, it is just taking longer to get there. We continue to be allergic to the corridor, even though the past three Premiers all used it to devastating effect.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Nathan Bassett was a boys club appointment. Goody's mate from the Crows who was most recently an assistant coach at Sturt. Not senior coach, assistant. He was never highly regarded as an AFL assistant.

Time to go Goody?
Some caretakers take the shackles off and tell the players to just go on instinct. A list like ours, tied into ribbons by trying to play two separate game plans at the moment, but stacked full of talent, would surely benefit from this. If we pull the trigger now and get guys playing for fun again, we'll be far better placed for coach and trade targets. Goodwin is getting nothing from this list. They're confused, unhappy and clearly over his message. Well done to him on a great stint, but good clubs know when to say bye bye.

2025 MFC Injury List
When this bloke was at the Lions, their list was more injured than fit every season. A couple of years later, and they’re the fittest and healthiest team in the league aside from ACLs. A classic MFC, foot-shooting appointment.

Did you watch the game? Chandler isn't a small forward anymore. He's playing on the wing.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Could have stopped there.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Out: Salem - If you're looking at standards, this guy is top of the list. Absolute seagull. Keeps his stat sheet tidy every week to the detriment of the team. Petty - I like him, but 4 doesn't go into 3 and McDonald is in better form. Viney - Too many clearance players. Go to the VFL and learn to become a small forward. If you're too good for that, then request a trade please. McVee/Lindsay - whichever one is fit Lever - slightly better option than Petty, but pretty bog average these days at everything except for shouting Laurie - I guess
