Bit hard to expect him on the MFC website! ? They would have to remove Basic, Vince, etc first (and add Sparrow)!

DV8 it is the Melbourne Cricket Ground after all (and we started life as the Melbourne Cricket Club Football Club)! Our secret is to strengthen our association rather than ‘untie the apron strings ‘!

Despite the enthusiasm of Binman (which I share), the initial concept is focussed on players and administration rather than a gathering place for the MFC faithfull. There is still a fair bit of concept work to go as I understand and hopefully the patient MFC membership base can end up with a high profile facility next to the “G” which they can own rather than share with other codes. My belief is that it will include components which will benefit the local community rather than merely the Club’s football operations and have a positive outcome for the local area. It is the most appropriate position by a long shot and it has merit on planning grounds which hopefully the Club can elucidate to convince East Melbourne/Richmond that it is a Win/Win proposal!

As an aside, I spoke with Mick Malthouse today (who lives directly opposite our proposed Yarra Park facility)! He is dead against it! (NIMBY?)

Although Hore seems to have shrunk a cm in the course of the article, it is encouraging that he has also managed to add 7 kg on his frame. If he keeps adjusting his body at this rate, he will be ginormous by Round 1!

Nice thoughts guys/(gals)! There are a number of requirements either site, including player car parking! I can see advantages in both. 1) Wellington Parade will involve no building over parkland, but conversion of grassland into an oval/training ground. 2) Olympic Boulevard involves building over parkland but no (perceived) alienation of ‘parkland’ as it is already sporting ovals!

Because the other codes train and play their (and presumably have an administration presence)!

They didn’t announce it before the election! The East Melbourne Group (of Nimbbys) are using it to pressure the politicians of all parties into opposing it! None of their leaders are likely to vote Green but they are using the process to their advantage as they know that this is the month when the politicians are likely to support/oppose anything that will get them votes!

Doesn’t need to remain Gosch’s Paddock! Simply swap with the other codes so that we are the one right on Olympic Boulevard (and our new facilities spanning it)!

No argument on that but the proposal is about centralised administration, gymnasium etc as well!

He told me that he is a Melbourne ‘supporter’ (but I would be positive that he wouldn’t fork out for a membership or be interested enough to attend games)!

The MFC have met with them (and found them most negative)! Best to not reveal your hand as they will misrepresent (embryonic/preliminary) information and it gives them time to get advanced with their campaign as at present when they have letter-boxed 4000 households (except mine) and pressured the three major parties!

The current President of the East Melbourne Group just loves to head off to VCAT. He is not your average football loving Aussie and, as for negotiating style, he has never heard of the concept of WIN-WIN as an option where all parties emerge with a great outcome!

The proposal for the new building is 100% on the rail reservation with no encroachment onto Yarra Park! As for the oval, what it will mean is that the area will be curated grassland available to the public all except for 5-6 hours training per week (which fall between the most popular early morning late afternoon dog walking hours)! Currently, with event parking and events themselves, public access is compromised/denied for more hours than that. I think my fellow residents should take their blinkers off and think this through!

Actually it would improve the park for locals as: a) training would only be 5-6 hours per week (c.f. extended times when used for event parking and locals cannot access it); b) we would maintain the oval and it would not be fenced off (c.f. Richmond F.C.) making it available for dog walkers morning and evening etc; c) the proposed internal facilities (such as netball/basketball courts) would be available for local (youth) teams who have to rely on schools etc; d) the area would be available and accessible for locals on event days (c.f. at present when it is used for event parking)!

Not positive that Labor is necessarily supportive. They have merely avoided Speaking out in opposition (preferring to refer it to VCAT and MCC and “due process”)! It’s nothing to do with Richmond (except the East Melbourne Group are hoping that the Greens get elected as they are likely to oppose anything no matter how what the merit)!

They aren’t putting one up in Richmond but the Greens are standing in both! Both the Liberals and the Greens have declared themselves against the MFC proposal!

So is the irony! ?

Interesting to see the Yarra Park proposal emerging in this morning’s paper as an election issue with the East Melbourne Group letterboxing 4000 households in Melbourne and Richmond to vote Liberal/Greens as the ALP hasn’t come out in opposition like the other two parties! ?

We can do a lot better than Iselect!

Trengove would also have been a good captain if we had delisted him from our AFL list and moved him to the Casey list rather than jettisoning Casey’s B&F to the Power! Do you think he’d come back? Love him to play a part in a Casey Demons Premiership!

It is presided over by a NIMBY (who professes to be a Melbourne supporter but isn’t)! He is too [censored] to have skeletons! I used to be on Committee but am no longer but happy to form part of a group to stand and unseat them!

It seems that the East Melbourne Group has been campaigning against it. Pretty powerful lobby when they mobilise! Perhaps some Demonlanders should run for their committee? ?
