  1. Imagine in two years time after everything the club has been through we tried to trade Nathan Jones to the WCE so he could start his coaching career early when actually we were trying to bring in a guy who'd played 0 games in 2 seasons through injury. this is like ripping the heart out of a clubs culture, i would be shocked if they make finals next year the way this is going.
  2. He was not up for trade, but they only decided he wasn't up for trade yesterday afternoon when they found out Mitchell was out the door, suggesting they were open to the idea before that. it sounds like he's in a pretty tight spot, generally if a player wants to go it happens, they won't keep a player who does not want to be there. saying Mitchells move wasn't motivated by the Salary cap is a joke, no doubt he could have played at the Hawks this year and gone to the eagles next year as a coach and not lost the one club player tag, it was clearly a salary cap decision.
  3. 14 minutes ago HAWKS WON'T LET LEWIS LEAVE Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright says he doesn't believe Jordan Lewis now wants to seek a trade to Melbourne. Speaking to the media at the Ricoh Centre, he again described the midfielder as a "contracted and required player". Wright said Lewis was never put on the trade table by Hawthorn and if he decided he wanted to leave the Hawks, the club would not let him. "As of yesterday afternoon we decided we didn't want Jordan to go anywhere ... we felt he was a required player," Wright said. "We're not in any discussions with Melbourne." Wright said Lewis did not want to go to Melbourne as far as he knew. Asked if Lewis's manager Liam Pickering was still holding discussions with the Demons, Wright said you would have to ask Pickering himself.
  4. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the Hawks inner sanctum to see just how this has happened, how can a bloke as loyal as Lewis be chatting to a different club and have the Hawks so clearly annoyed at him wanting to leave despite all reports saying he wants to leave because of what they've said/done. the same day as a club legend is traded to WCE
  5. Lewis is chatting to the Dees this arvo, still keen to move, just have to convince the Hawks, they won't keep a bloke who doesn't want to be there if the can get a pick for him.
  6. Call his management and offer him 4 years 2 with a trigger for 3 based on form/games played and whatever he doesn't do as a player as an assistant coach.
  7. Bad looks asking the loyal servants of your club to look elsewhere or take pay cuts so they can overpay Tom Mitchell and Offer O'meara who hasn't played in 2 years big dollars. wheels are definitely falling off.
  8. Time to put our 2017 first round pick on the table and get him to the club he grew up supporting. path of least resistance and all that.
  9. we won't have given up on Lewis, i reckon the Hawks are just trying to get us to offer something they can use on O'meara
  10. i reckon there would be plenty of mids who would love to have Max Gawn dropping it down their throats.
  11. Eh both have had 2 top 5 B&F finishes in the last three years, i'm not the slightest bit stressed about either.
  12. Who cares, they're both guns, both in our next flag side
  13. Yup, it's gone from Lewis approaching Melbourne, actively seeking us out, having multiple chats with club officials, getting to the point of negotiating a suitable deal and then backflipping which to me suggests he might well want to come but the Hawks won't budge. P.S i reckon the Whisperer dude off Twitter is Grant Thomas trying to become relevant again.
  14. I would have thought today would have been a nice slap in the face for you, you have been critical of the lack of movement during trade week and Lewis had agreed to a deal without you even knowing a thing about it, surely that should make you think the club has this covered and appreciate the fact that we don't leak is a really positive sign
  15. I think if he came to the club, went as far as negotiating a deal and agreeing to it and informing the Hawks he clearly liked the idea, it seems to me that it's more about the Hawks not wanting to trade him than him not wanting to come. it's called the silly season for a reason haha
  16. The AFL was always going to fight it every step of the way, i reckon the plan was always for them to be not guilty at the tribunal making it extremely difficult to overrule that verdict.
  17. I wonder if we'd consider trading our 2017 first round pick and something to try and get a top 10 pick and land young English he's very much a rory Lobb type who would be able to be a more than capable forward who is able to play in the ruck, he's loaded with talent and i reckon he'd be a great get if we could somehow swing that if pick #29 doesn't get Hibberd over the line perhaps we could also offer a 2017 third round exchange with their 2017 fourth round or some sort of steak knive thing to sweaten the deal, i think they feel Hibberd is worth pick 25 and pick 29 just doesn't quite get it done. I am not discounting the change Lewis is still in play, he was clearly a long way down the path with Melbourne and he may genuinely see a better opportunity here, he'd definitely be in the AFL side and maybe a 4 year 2 of playing 2 of coaching type deal would offer him more security than what he currently has/ is getting at the Hawks. I reckon we would be following this Tom Rockliff situation closely, he's a quality player who i think has mentally suffered from being Captain of a terrible side that has been going nowhere for a little while now, watching coaches get sacked and so on, if he came in without the leadership to worry about i think he could really add to our side, he's the right age and could potentially be a bargain pick up if the Lions actively WANT to trade him they may consider a deal involving Dunn and our second round pick, potential for a real value pick up if i am reading the situation correctly. ( Tom would obviously have to accept less than the 800k or whatever he's asking) obviously this is hypothetical, but i think this trade period has the potential to take a really positive turn, especially after the great news of Dom and Jesse re-signing with the club.
  18. Lewis and Hibberd alone go a long way to boosting our on field experience/leadership.
  19. I can't speak for Jordan, but i suspect it's the security, at the Dees it'd likely be a 4 year deal 2 years as a player and 2 as a coach maybe and what's he got one more at the Hawks with no transition plan in place. The Hawks have also been keen to move the older guys to flanks and allow the younger guys to shoulder the middle a lot more, i am not sure Lewis is as equipped as a Hodge or Burgoyne to move to Half back, so he might be looking at VFL time potentially as well which is why i don't see him as a lock for being Captian
  20. Trade Radio Barrett and Wallace don't seem to be writing this off at all, both saying they're hearing it from a lot of different people so it's a real chance of them backflipping on this one. as the article Stuie just posted showed, where there is smoke, there is generally fire in the AFL world, my take is i think Lewis wants to come, the Hawks don't want to lose both he and Mitchell at the same time.
  21. What's interesting is i would have thought they'd have said both those things about Mitchell, but now he's off to WCE so that seems to have less meaning if a really good offer/opportunity comes on
  22. If Essendon offered say Pick 1 and pick 19 that would have to tempt them if they thought it was 50/50 that he'd go. I reckon they'll win 10 games or so next year and get maybe pick 8-9 as their first rounder and maybe 9-10 as compo if he leaves. and the risk compo picks may be removed.
  23. He did alright last year when he netted us pick 3 and 7 and got us two extremely good young players that will both be huge for the club going forward, reckon you didn't predict that one so maybe you should hold your uninformed comments until you actually see how things pan out. for the record it would be 100% fine if the only deal done was the Hibberd one, much better than recruiting some NQR's just for the sake of feeling a part of it.
