Jesse Hogan and his kicking for goal (merged thread)
Maluski replied to Ricky P's topic in Melbourne Demons
On an unrelated matter, just saw Jesse Hogan at Crown casino, playing Texas holdem poker 2 tables away from me - $1/$2 blinds cash table -
6. Viney - What a Gun. Enough said 5. Watts - Best game I've seen Watts play 4. T McDonald - Dominated in defense and I've never seen him kick so efficiently and set up so many plays - 91% disposal efficiency! 3. B Kennedy - involved in so many plays up forward, awesome pick up 2. Oliver - 15 contested possessions - equal to Viney 1. N Jetta - Love this guy, so under-rated, always pressures the oppo well, so clean with the ball under pressure Unlucky: N Jones

6 Jamar 5 Jetta 4 Grimes 3 Howe 2 Vince 1 Viney

You knows its going to be a long year when we can't even beat the Saints without Montagna, Lenny Hayes, Sam Fisher and Dal Santo traded away... Positives: Watts' game was excellent, good to see Tyson accumulate so many possessions, Dunn was good Megatives: Pederson is not even VFL standard let alone AFL standard, Byrnes and Bail are useless

6 - Watts 5 - N.Jones 4 - Vince 3 - Dunn 2 - Tyson 1 - Trengove -1000 - Pederson

What is the one thing that has kept you going?
Maluski replied to the fork's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, spot on with all the posts, great thread. For me, it has to be the fact that after all the lows, a premiership will be all the sweeter. -
6 N Jones - 31 disp, 7 Clearances, 7 tackles. Champ 5 M Jones - Always puts in 100%. A Battler. 24 disp, 7 Clearances, 8 tackles. 4 T McD - Had 13 one-percenters and 70% disp effic. Foughthard all day long 3 J Toumpas - 20 disp, 70% of them being kicks. Will be a good outside user. 2 J Grimes - 13 disp, 77% effic, 12 tackles. Always gives his all 1 J Frawley - what would we do without him...

Young talent: do NOT trade pick #2
Maluski replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Team of the future: FB McDonald, Frawley, ??? HB Terlich, Garland, Grimes C Toumpas, N Jones, Viney HF Dawes, Howe, ??? FF Watts, Clark, Hogan Foll: Gawn, Trengove, ??? Subs: Fitzpatrick, Kent, ??? Possible young talent: Barry, Blease, Evans, Clisby, Spencer, Strauss, Tapscott, Nicholson (tagger) Plenty of stocks of big men and young talent that may or may not come through. What we really need is a genuine established midfield gun aged ~ 24-27 thats ready to go and who will provide leadership in the midfield. I'd be happy to trade IF a suitable player is there to grab -
6 Terlich - 24 disposals, 6 rebound 50's, and an efficiency of disposal (ED) of 83% 5 Watts - 4 goals, 9 marks, 3 tackles. If not for a few dropped marks, would have put him as number 1 4 N Jones - 26 disposals, 14 of them contested, 92% ED 3 Frawley - 20 disposals, 8 marks, 95% ED 2 Trengove - 21 disposals, 7 tackles 1 Nicholson - 17 disposals and a whopping 11 tackles Unlucky to miss out: Rodan (great game, but ED of only 50%), Clisby, Fitzpatrick, Dawes

It was 2005. Looking at the playing list back then, it wasnt particularly full of stars (eg players like hard nut Godfrey, Nicholson, big Benny Holland(which i remember one commentator said that Garry Ablett/some other gun had more skill in their pinky than Holland did all up). The difference is these guys were giving their all while our current list hasn't being doing so.

Frawley for me

The Pederson highlights real continues... Quality handball to St Kilda.

1. Great attack on the ball by Watts 2. Garland is a champ 3. McDonald, Terlich, Kent are looking good. Loved Kent's chase 4. The disposal efficiency of Dawes is much better than I remember it being 5. The "experienced players" are just BAD, in particular Pederson. Can we please stop playing them? Neeld is no longer here. No need to save face anymore by playing them. Give the young players a run over these guys so we can at least find out who to keep.

N jones 6 Dawes 5 Frawley 4 Garland 3 Kent 2 Terlich 1

4 - Gawn 3 - Viney 2 - Howe 1 - Matt Jones

6 Grimes - Lead from the front, 29 disposals, Disposal efficiency 79%, 5 clearances, 7 tackles. Champion. 5 Byrnes - 23 Disposals, Disposal efficiency 78%, 3 goals, 3 clearances. I have to say i doubted him as a trade, but I've never been so glad to be wrong. 4 Jones - Always know what you are going to get from him. Legend. 28 disposals, 3 tackles. Disposal efficiency 68%, missed some shots at goal - otherwise would have been higher. 3 Howe - 4 goals, 7 marks -4 of them contested. Excitement machine and not just a Robbo-clone (no disrespect to Robbo). 2 Trengove - 10 tackles and 22 Disposals to boot. need I say more? 1 Evans - Lot of hard running, 20 Disposals, 7 marks 3 goals. Biggest positives of the day: - Unlike Jamar, Gawn looks very good around the ground with regards to contested possessions, agility, disposal efficiency - Evans - Terlich fought hard all day - Frawley regaining some form - Byrnes stepping up - Pederson played a role

Mike has been very harsh on the MFC and the whole tanking debacle on OTC was an absolute disgrace. However he is spot on in this case. Extremely disappointing season. It sounds like he rated us as an up and coming young team at the start of the season.
-
Agreed. I love the optimism, but seriously, we couldn't even beat sides like Port Adelaide and the Westerfn Bulldogs. I expect us to win 5-7 games, depending on how many times we play these 2 teams and the expansion clubs. I am hoping for at least 1 win against a side other than these 4.

Great news! I was also worried that he would leave. I hope he improves defensively and learns to put in consistent 2nd + 3rd efforts. The future is already looking brighter!
