Dawson behind the Bont if you ask me - really rate Dawson though
-
No from me
-
He can't build fitness his knee/s shot - this has already been confirmed by Goodwin. Look he is obviously a really nice fella and tries his best but let's be really honest he actually hasn't been a real force in this competition since 2019 (aside from a few brief cameos). He is 31 later this year and is clearly finding it more and more difficult physically. I would be surprised if he is playing next season which again is one very strong reason it is important to try getting Grundy to function more efficiently as a forward.
-
Not saying you are wrong but what is the evidence of this?
-
And Curnow had 15 disposals, 11 marks and 3 goals BB and JVR combined = 14 disposals, 5 marks and 1 goal Thanks for confirming our key forwards are underperforming.
-
Congrats to Judd he has certainly surprised most and exceeded expectations. For me, he, along with the continued improvement of Trent Rivers have been big highlights this season. If you asked anyone this time last year if he would be the player he is today I'd say nobody would have said yes. It is good reminder to all when we assess the progress (or lack thereof) of some of our young draftees.
-
Fair enough but I'll take performance over structure any day. ATM he is only getting selected because we do not have a better tall forward option - more a reflection of our lack of fit talent in that part of the ground than his current form. It continues to be our single biggest weakness IMO if we had any of Hawkins, Cameron, McKay, Curnow, Walker, Allen or Larkey we'd probably be premiership favorites. I haven't given up on Jefferson but realistically he is at least 2 years away from potentially impacting and never going to be a big strong contest player (more in the Fritta mold). JVR obviously has a bright future but a genuine big strong forward is still a big whole in our list IMO. That is the reason they seem keen to try to reinvent Grundy.
-
My question - is glimpses enough? IMO he is probably our weakest link in terms of contest (chasing, tackling, spoiling opposition intercept marks)

Hyperbole from these cretins as usual He knew he wasn’t going to be #1 ruck at MFC and must have felt that a reasonable time as a forward was always how it was going to be required to stay in the team when Max was playing and fit The fact is both Max and Brodie need to get better as forwards if this arrangement is ever going to deliver what was promised / expected Both have the football IQ to make that happen Suggesting someone can’t be a capable forward if they have played ruck before is insulting - there are some pretty lazy dumb forwards floating around and I think these guys have what it takes to make it work with some good coaching Lloyd loves to think bring a forward is impossible because he never played elsewhere
-
And BB one goal , 6 disposals and 3 marks - hardly setting the world on fire as a tall key forward For the record JVR had 7 hit outs vs 1 for BB This is the reason I believe Brodie has every chance to still get back into this team and contribute at least as much as each of BB or JVR as a tall forward - he is too good of a footballer not to
-
Based on last nights output it appears Max is a much better player getting continuity as the main ruck. I listened to the post match commentary and was a bit surprised that Matthew Richardson and then separately Adam Cooney (peanut if you ask me) thought that it would be impossible for Grundy to be an effective forward. I'm not sure I agree with that. Grundy is a smart guy and has plenty of football IQ so with some good coaching I believe he can evolve into a capable forward. Cooney was actually suggesting we trade Grundy at seasons end - to me that would be dumb because atm we have nobody ready to take the ruck role on if Max were to get injured. I'd love to see Brodie become a serious threat in the F50 by the seasons end - over to our coaches to make it happen.
-
If true that is just appalling
-
Both underwhelming if you ask me - it is the reason I was always keen to try and make it work with Petty inside F50 - at least he will provide a strong contest both in the air and on the ground.
-
Ok - didn't realise our KPI's for a full forward were that low - I hope I'm wrong we shall see.
-
I'm really concerned if they persist with bombing long into F50 Andrews will have a field day and set up attacks repeatedly. BB has not shown any ability to take contested marks, nor has he demonstrated any real ability to chase or tackle effectively when the ball is in dispute or in the opposition's possession. I know some people will not agree but personally I think we'd be better served playing JVR or even Schache over BB atm.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Sydee replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hard to see them improving enough for that pick to slip higher - my ladder prediction shows them finishing 15th = #4 -
Adams - Agree it was one of his better games - he managed to take a few marks and his disposal was very solid. He will get better when he gets more used to playing against bigger bodies and builds some additional strength. Another pre-season will do him a lot of good. Jefferson - one of his quieter days and he didn't hit the scoreboard. I am still not sure he will make it at AFL level however he did take a couple of a good marks in Q3 that suggests he does have potential. I'm living in hope that with another couple of seasons he will muscle up and possibly even become our version of JUH. I can still remember Jamarra's early games where he looked pretty timid and anything but a key position forward. Fingers crossed and I hope he spends a lot of time in the gym over summer.
-
He is certainly quite mobile and has a good leap - he was well beaten in the ruck by a much stronger opponent - the strength and knowledge to counter that will come with one or two more pre seasons Every game he gets through given his delayed start this year is a bonus in terms of his development I think he has potential to be a good ruck / forward given time
-
When he went onto the ball last night he fumbled terribly and then I think his only kick was a Clanger straight to an opposition player He just seems really flat and completely devoid of confidence and energy - no idea why he should be flying in theory now he has the contract monkey off his back Mind you he isn’t alone we have a few that lack confidence atm it seems
-
I’ll say it - Pickett off Smith on
-
Most important game of the season to date IMO - we really need a win here otherwise too 4 looks extremely unlikely
-
Please correct if I'm wrong but presumably that Ad revenue helps support the payment of Broadcasting Rights which I understand ultimately trickle down to the clubs Doesn't that mean the problem will still filter back to the AFL - unless the Broadcasters can offset that Ad revenue which based on the current advertising is probably unlikely?

Just sent him my email it's been a pet peeve of mine for quite some time.

By deduction that would suggest half backs don't follow opposition half forwards when they push into D50 Sorry not trying to be a smart Alec just seems to me they would cover much the same ground and therefore have similar endurance.
