All respect to Tom Hafey. I'm hoping to see him appropriately honoured today both before the game and with an exciting contest.
Just hoping we can do what the Lions did to us after Jimmy's passing and put it all aside to clinch the win.

I'm always surprised in this current state of football, being a high pressure contest driven game, that we don't see more of the players who hesitate and dither with the ball being run down from behind as soon as play on is called.
Probably not an exact science, but by standing X metres away and beginning to run as soon as the opposition player marks the ball you should be able to reach the exclusion zone at full pelt as the umpire calls "play-on".
Could be high risk but bloody hell when it pays off then jackpot.
Good probability of taking possession as well as making the opposition crap their dacks.

Disappointed with the result.
Happy with the progress in both endeavour and the gameplan.
That's about all.

my post got deleted, i thought it was in good taste in light of this ridiculous Viney issue.
Hope you've got a good one to mark the result.

Purple headed warrior.
I'm not sure how much further I can clarify that.

Its a fantastic night. Last time I was very close to the centre of the MCG in the drizzle with my pink poncho on. What broke my heart was seeing loads of men, cradling a framed photo of a loved once who had succumbed to this terrible disease with tears running down their faces. Some of these guys were big, tough blokes all bought together with something in common.
I locked eyes with the great Jimmy - will never forget that moment. Went along with my friend who was not a Melbourne supporter but a breast cancer sufferer in her mid 40's - her prime of life. She unfortunately lost her battle 18 months ago. My mum is battling this terrible disease at the moment. I will be there for her.
Remember if you plan on coming, you need to get there early ( I think it is about 4.30pm) as it takes a bit of organising to get everyone on the field but it is truly the most amazing feeling when the put the picture of the pink lady up on the TV screen.
I would crawl over broken glass to be there.
Good on you jane02. Well said.

must win this week.
We must.
Part of this trajectory is to start turning "surprise wins" into back to back wins and then into winning streaks.
Would like Dwayne Russell to eat his words from yesterday about "this one isn't going to script."
You know what Dwayne, it was going to the script.
Roos has a script, and you just got to witness the first act in person.

Isn't that holding the man?It doesn't say anything about what happens if your arms are pinned and you haven't had prior opportunity (like what happened with Viney against the Swans when he was tackled in mid air).
From what I saw that day the player tackling Viney already had hands on him before he grabbed it mid-air.

The real indicator is that this year I am not screaming out "Why is [insert opposition players name] on his own in the goal square?"

Where did you hear that?
I think someone posted it on here in hope only and it has become truth purple monkey dishwasher.

Don't remember anyone getting weeks for breaking Viney's jaw in the vfl.... Or Sylvia's a few years earlier
As Moonshadow said, Wojo got suspended for his hit.
Sylvia's was as you said "a few years ago"... At the time the rules were less about head high contact and you could've run him over (or any Dees player for that matter) with a bus on the field and the umps would've called play on.

AFL website reporting Lynch out for 6 weeks with a broken jaw.
You can almost see the stitch up coming. Viney to get three weeks.

What the hell is this RD?
Even with my bi folkies I can't see it.
I think you can click on the image to enlarge it.
It's Mitch Clark tweeting "It's a Grand Old Flag"
Thought it was noteworthy.

I dont think it is intentional. I think lower performing teams get stitched up more because umpires subconsiously assume that the worse team made the error. It is also the reason that the star players get looked after so well by umpires. It is extremely annoying, but it wont change. In the last few weeks. Buddy was given a rubbish free to kick his only goal. Ablett was given a gift also in a crucial time in the game. Nev Jetta gets his head ripped off half the time and it gets ignored.
Win a Brownlow and you're assured a nice run with the umps as well.

channel 7's - Footy Central question tonight is: "is Paul Roos' the best coach in the AFL?" - hell yer!
I think the MFC has just found some respect in the AFL.
Basil Zempilas - "Demons lead nearly all the way through".
No Basil..... We lead at EVERY change. Just suck it up you condescending [censored].

I don't think you can canonize God XD
That win had Roos' fingerprints all over it.
And we won on the road.
And N Jones didn't have to be BOG.

Too early to have Roos canonised?
