  1. Move Gold Coast Suns to Darwin - they become NT Suns.

Then they can have permanent "community engagement" with their own team.

The follow up move is GWS Giants to Tasmania - they become Tassie Giants.

    WIN/WIN.

  2. You're right - "fear" may not be the right word here.

I am certainly "sick" of losing to the following teams:

North Melbourne - they've done nothing for years and somehow we seem unable to come close.

Hawthorn - understandable seeing as they have been dominant in recent history but I live for the day we can not only match it with them but take a hard fought win to the bank.

St Kilda - have been around our mark for a few years now and we have gone close but we should be burying them what with all the old hacks they have running around (though they have cleared out quite a few now I guess)

Freo/WC - seems like these two teams have had the edge on us for years. I want to win and win over there.

Could probably do one of these for virtually every team that we've lost to in a small way (even though we've had some good wins in the most recent history) but seriously this year feels like the closest we've been to fielding a "competitive" team.

2016 has been a shocker of a year so far on most other levels personally so really hoping that footy will be the positive light this year.

  3. 3 hours ago, binman said:

In terms of whether the Track did the wrong thing playing basketball for me it depends a bit on what form of playing it took and how the injury occurred. Was he shooting some low key ball by himself (or perhaps with a mate) and rolled and ankle somehow, for example on a layup? Or was he having a scrimmage and playing with some intensity? I have a problem with the latter.

The other issue is how long did it take to report the injury. I'm not clear when it happened, the XMAS break is what the report said, which means it could have been before XMAS or the day before training i guess. But if it was last year then i wonder about the delay in letting the club know there might be a problem. I guess the injury might have so innocuous that he didn't realize till Monday there was an issue, But to break a toe he must have realised something had occurred i would have thought.

Alerting the club as soon as it happened might have meant getting treatment and into a moon boot earlier, which may be the difference between say playing NAB cup or not.

All supposition i guess, but i'd love to know when it actually occurred.

On 9News last night Petracca stated he was playing basketball alone at home and landed awkwardly attempting a layup.

  4. In 2014 I think I saw about 1 or 2 shepherds from a Melbourne player.

In 2015 I think I saw about 6 or 7 shepherds from a Melbourne player.

There has been improvement but hopefully we can start shepherding and protecting team mates regularly in every match instead of playing Hot Potato with the football whilst we handball to players backs or stationary targets.

I'm all for the sentiments expressed in the article but until I don't have to scream "NO NO NO" every time we get in a stupid circular handball clusterf**k then it's all just words.

  5. It's a matter of time until a Melbourne fan somewhere decides to get a tattoo of this man's face.

    It might be me.

Well, maybe just his initials with a love heart around them. I don't want people to think I'm crazy.

And if you get his full name people might think you love suits or cigarettes.

  6. If anyone wants back at the Pies for their Howe intervention, having a Weideman in our next premiership side should do it

I don't need certain conditions to be satisfied with a premiership. (Although revenge on the Pies would be a nice aside)

The Cup will do fine thanks.

  7. Haven't heard about chest marks R and B?

I recall attending a junior footy clinic on the MCG in the early 80s.

After meeting the great man Robbie Flower we ran through a few drills with the players, as you do.

The mist of time has stolen the name from me but one of the players (who seemed an absolute giant) informed the enthralled group of children that there was no such thing as a chest mark. It was an "arm mark" as there is no way you can mark a football with your chest.

Funny how something so small sticks in your mind after 30 something years.

  8. Burgs, I love your work mate, but seriously, no post match Harmes interview? The kid is living out all our collective dreams, I wanted to see him beam.

I'll give you a hypothetical version:

Matt Burgan: "I'm here with a fine young man and lifelong Dees supporter after the fine win by the Dees in Round 16 over the Lions, James Harmes, with a fine performance with 15 touches on a fine Melbourne day at the AFLs finest venue, the MCG.

    James, how do you feel?"

James Harmes: "Well Matt, I...." [cutoff]

Matt Burgan: "That's fine, thanks James."
