  1. I like the suspense of not knowing how much time is left when you are at the ground.

I do not want to hear the crowd at the ground counting down with a clock from 10 seconds (or worse 60 seconds or more) as it would be a real letdown.

There is absolutely nothing like being in front at the 31 minute mark of the last quarter after a great game of football. The siren sounds, the players raise them arms and the crowd goes up with a massive roar.

That is why I go to a game of footy.

  2. I went along today to watch the Dees play Hawthorn, but that must have been cancelled, I guess. What I saw instead was a Hawthorn training session. What was really interesting was the witches hats they were using. They were fairly large and coloured red and blue. Some of them moved occasionally but most remained stationary. What I thought was really good were the ones that, when the ball accidentally went near them, were programmed to pick it up and hand it back to a Hawthorn player. Very clever that. I wonder where we could get some of those things.

Get some??? Mate.... We own the factory that churns them out.

  3. So now there is a $50 bait to get the unsigned members to put their hands in their pockets. I applaud the initiative but I wonder what it says to those of us who always sign up, pay full price for no special reward.

  4. I would need to be on the ground at 1/4 and 3/4 breaks to get near them.

We'll have quick whip around, buy a megaphone for you and you can probably instruct the umpires from the boundary at 1/4 and 3/4 breaks.

This would also be handy for extra advice to be provided to the umpires during stoppages and helping with a well timed shout of BAAAAAAAAAAAAALLL!!

  5. I am opting for Monty Python, I know I have seen it many times before but I have also seen the Hawthorn script a million times over. The usual suspects keep winning the contests, good footballers just sick to death of watching them win.

I agree. Have flicked over to SBS now and will probably stay there.

  6. Wife and Mother-in-Law in the room nattering at each other.

Two year old bouncing ping pong ball off every hard surface in sight.

Have pushed volume up - am expecting serious repercussions but will persevere.

  7. Bloody star!

He is in the top 15 mids in the comp, I dare anyone to find someone who has played so consistently well in such a bloody awful team for as long as he has.

He is a genuine A grader!

Great to see my boy McDonald giving that absolute f'wit Reiwoldt a bath. I can't stand that sook!

Loved it when Riewoldt went down like a starfish near the Melbourne cheersquad. He copped a massive earbashing.

  8. What classifies as a "premium member". Will reserved seat members count?

I'd like to know that too.

I have a reserved seat membership but obviously not a "premium membership" or I would have received the email.

I assume our cheer squad will be at the Ponsford stand end and therefore that would be the best place to sit with a majority of MFC supporters?

  9. The official website says we are at just under 32,500 members.... I'd say Nineteen might have made a typo and intended to say just under 33k...?

    Membership thread says 33283.

Not a bad leap in a week.

  10. A few observations (which may or may not have been mentioned)

    • Jamar played an important role and without him, we could have really been towelled up.
    • Viney was the real positive to come out of the game and that wasn't predicted either.
    • We were hard at the contest and our backing up and 2nd & 3rd efforts were first rate.
    • The corridor was our friend - who would have thought?
    • We answered every challenge to great effect (the margin should have been larger though)
    • All our players seemed to know their role and we displayed great teamwork.
    • We put them off their game and they didn't seem to know how to respond.
    • Others have made mention of Kent's negating role on Malceski - that's a decent scalp.
    • We were far more direct and we played on a lot - without hesitation
The only bit that concerns me is this looks to be very close to our best team (save for Dawes & Vince) We could do with a bit of luck with injuries and we might need that luck if we're to make our mark on the season.

Another plus of sorts are those players looking on who didn't play - they'll now know the required level of intensity and application required (and the skill level)

We do have a fair bit of relative experience in the 2's and we need 3 or 4 of those players to improve their output markedly. The match committee need to see some dominant performances at Casey (both by the team and by individuals - on a consistent basis) That may not happen but we need it to happen.

    A terrific win.

    Great points.

Here's hoping we can replicate the level of intensity and application required (and the skill level) next week and for many weeks/years thereafter.
