  1. I saw it and decided not to post it because I have had enough of the media just finding new ways of writing negative sh.. about Jack. They use/abuse Jack to create headlines. Then DL goes into another anti-Jack frenzie. So I repost my post a few minutes ago from another DL thread: I was not happy how Roos portrayed Jack 'dropping himself' as it just turned up the heat especially from past coaches. Unheard of, they cried!! More negative Jack headlines resulted. Last night on footy shows it was really good to hear Wayne Carey, Luke Darcy and Garry Lyon speak in strong support of Jack 'dropping' himself. They said players are human, they should be cut some slack or untold psychological damage could occur. Furthermore they said: - If physically injured players are given time to recover with understanding and without fan-fare. - If emotionally challenged they should also be given time to recover with understanding and without fan-fare. In any other environment the frenzied media 'headline' grabbing criticism and berating would be considered abuse. I hope the Carey and Lyon comments are followed by the media to be more considered in their comments on players, not just Jack. Not suggesting a 'kid-glove' treatment - just everyday respect being shown when criticising. If the mainstream media changes its approach to Jack, hopefully it will rub off on the rest of the football public at games, on social media etc. Then we might get to see the real Jack! So if DL's are going to post here can they show some respect and consideration toward Jack as Carey, Darcy and Lyon have.

  3. I don't see much point comparing Roos to any other coach. I don't see much point comparing our team to any other team. The reality is every team (except GWS and GCS) have played finals in the last 10 years. Of our own making? Yes. Every other team/coach has had a some type of foundation to re-build on. Therefore, Brisbane, WB, Port, St K, Rich, have/will all bounce back faster than we do. BTW did anyone else hear the interview with Roos about staying at MFC after 2017 in some non-coaching role. He was very emphatic and adamant that he would not. So all you Roos bashers will get your wish soon enough. Sigh
  4. A good report, Thanks. Any idea why Roos said Watts asked to be dropped...the media spin on it was awful, only adding to the idea that is shows more weakness on Watts' part. Couldn't Roos just say what you said: they want to give him a chance to play a bit of footy out of the spotlight. Everyone would have accepted that more easily. Leigh Matthews was particularly critical.
  5. It seems we let the wrong player go and ended up losing both of them.
  6. Port have kicked themselves out of the game!
  7. Maybe Garland is going thru a tough time on an off-field matter...remember he had a pretty strong emotional reaction to the win against Richmond. Good to see his team mates rally around him. H doesn't seem the type to give a teammate a serve at that stage of the game. We shouldn't be too quick to judge. If Garland is going thru a tough time, I applaud him for playing the way he does. He was one of our better players yesterday. Cut him some slack, folks.
  8. He has but by saying Watts asked to be dropped he has exposed Watts to even more scrutiny. The macho journalists are saying he should get out there and prove himself in the seniors instead of 'running away' and 'hiding' in the VFL. I think Roos miscalculated with his explanation on this one. It would have been better to just say 'Jack needs to go and find some form and enjoy his footy'. Everyone would have accepted that without the additional derision of Jack.
  9. Would you like to back up those two comments with substance, especially the first?
  10. Looks like the doggies are in trouble. 15 mins into the first qytr: Freo 5.0.30. Doggies 0.0.0 By the time the bye comes round the usual lowly clubs will be back at the bottom and the usual high clubs will be at the top with a bit of shuffling in the middle of the ladder. Sadly, nothing has changed. Next week's game at the MCG against the bulldogs will give us a better idea where we are at.
  11. You want to give the below average group who didn't show up yesterday even more money? Don't think so! Sorry, I do not buy a membership (and donate on top of it) every year to see more of that money paid to fewer non-performing players, or to any consistently non-performing players.
  12. Maybe not. No point in an after match dressing down when emotions are flared. No point publicly burning the players. When the dust settles he will tell them. He let the game run in the last quarter probably to see how players reacted. Roos had a surprising calm in his PR. Looked like a man who had stamped the NQR player's cards.
  13. No HIgh Court here. It stops at CAS for everyone, whichever way it goes. No further appeals. They are smarting because ASADA outsmarted them all! They thought if ASADA wasn't happy with Tribunal they would next go to another AFL Tribunal (as the process allows) and appeal the decision. The EFC and AFL PR machines would then go into overdrive with the 'we are innocent', 'waste of public money' etc campaign and whip up a local frenzy to see it get it buried once and for all. Hoping that by then WADA would also have had enough. ASADA didn't fall for that trick! They called the bluff and passed to let WADA take the lead. AFL/EFC are now smarting in not foreseeing the ASADA/WADA strategy which explains why they were all so shell-shocked on Tuesday. They are also sh-- scared because in reality it is not the Tribunal decision being appealed it is a brand new case.
  14. Ha! Hypocrite! -Where was she when her husband used his constitutional right of appeal to the Federal Court. -If the AFL Tribunal had found against the players would they not use the very same 'unconstitutional' process to appeal to CAS. A great image from today's Age article by Tim Lane: " Let's get one thing straight in this case, and all the other ones around the world that have frustrated athletes and brought odium on investigators: it's not the anti-doping agencies that caused the problem. They are not the ones to blame for the 6am knock on the athlete's door, or the six-year scrutiny of an athlete who tests clean in the lab but defies gravity on the track. It is not they who over decades have cheated their rivals and defrauded the public...It has to push back against the devious and intransigent national and international sports administrations that have put income and convenience first and integrity somewhere else." WADA and the All-knowing Football League The only thing missing from that image are the letters C A S writ big on the palm of the hand!!!
  15. You want Pedersen in the team I take it? You could add, Pedersen can protect Hogan just as well as Dawes (not that he needs it) It was very telling this week when Dawes described Hogan as "the No 1 forward"! By his own admission he sees his role as a 'back-up' or a decoy for a kid who had played 6 games! Doesn't deserve to be in the leadership team if that is idea of leadership and setting an example! Edit: Even Sam Mitchell thought it was dumb for Dawes to come out and say the Hawks were 'gettable': "If I was playing against us I probably would have said the same thing, maybe not publicly. I think it was a fair enough comment. I didn't use it to drive me." I always thought Dawes was fairly smart, now I have serious doubts given his comments this week.
  16. People wanting Goodwin in now have short memories. Look at what the press did to Neeld when the team consistently played like this. Goodwin wouldn't last 5 mins while the team plays like this. Roos is using his brownie points with the media to shelter Goodwin from the sh-- storm. Those calling for Goodwin are looking for the magic wand to fix everything at once, now! It is still the 'saviour' mentality. I rarely blame the players and almost never an individual player but yesterday was beyond the pale. They must have looked at the Hawks and decided they couldn't be bothered, before the first bounce. Embarrassing! Shameful! No point blaming Roos.
  17. It is extremely disgraceful and distasteful of a recent past president to write that about a club his have just thrashed by 100+ points. It is beyond rubbing salt into the wound. Gloating in a most disgusting manner.
  18. Triple M give 'the worst player' votes: Most Worst: 3 Howe 2nd worst 2 Dawes 1 Lumbumba Looks right. Shameful for all of them
  19. Big mistake of Roos to disclose that Watts asked to be dropped! Roos exposed him further - that's all commentators are talking about. They are putting a terrible spin on it. Jack is in for another beating in the media and he didn't even play Can't make sense of a few of Roos decisions in the past week
  20. Can we please invoke the 'mercy' rule and sound the siren
  21. Hamstring...Stretch now on. This game is like a death of a thousand cuts...
  22. Salem still in the rooms with physios...maybe we should all just pack up now
  23. Garry Lyon just suggested anyone in the players rooms should give Jesse a wide berth as he is like a bear being stalked. I think he wanted to play
