Updated for: Hunt's 2 year extension. Reports that Nietschke's was promised a 1 year extension after injury. Those players referenced as possible trades. Brown choosing the Dees (excl trade and contract details).

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Lucifers Hero replied to Bizzell Blitz's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is really sad. Really hope it is '3rd time lucky'. Would still go to the G to watch him play. -

Announced by Hudson on SEN but who knows. I just wish they would do the Cameron so we can all move on. -

Jesse has nominated GWS. Makes negotiations with Geelong on Cameron a little more interesting. -
We have Mitch Brown who could be the current day Cam Pederson in case Max is out for any length of time. Within a game or S-T basis any number of players can cover Max.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Lucifers Hero replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
So without our games his MCG average is about 1.5 per game. Will be interesting to see how he adjusts to both the MCG size and weather conditions. tbh, I don't expect him to be a 60+ goal a year player but 45-50 will be a good return given the other ways he helps the team and if other fwds start doing their bit. -

It will be interesting to see if his long distance goals suffer when not playing under the closed roof at Marvel Stadium or if the wind and rain at the MCG reduce his strike rate. -
The Couch pick of 23 is rated as Band 3 (2nd rnd pick). Daniher was Band 1 = 1st round. Band 2 = end of first round. So the AFL has 'discounted' the Saints offer to get to Band 3. Big difference in principle to the Band 1 Adelaide were looking for. I'm a bit surprised the AFL didn't rate Crouch offer as Band 2, if only to 'manage the optics' which the it loves to do. In practice it doesn't matter in this case as Band 2 would be pick 21 because Adelaide finished 18th but in principle it is significant in how it could impact the assessment of other FA offers.

That was a few weeks ago before the argy -bargy got going. I think it had some incentive payments on top of the base $600k. Its interesting that there are no reports of the $ that were in the final offer 3 year. To get 1st rnd pick it would need to be $750-$800k base. A sizeable jump (and risk) for a player who has hardly played for 3 years. But hey, they have to spend their sal cap on someone... Does anyone know if a club can renegotiate an FA offer a year or so later.

I'm not suggesting Tom stays but if there are no takers we don't have much choice so I'm ok with giving him another chance. Tom is not the only one that has under performed his contract. Two other notables this year are Melksham and Lever, also on good coin and contracted to 2022. Like Tom, they had injuries in 2019 and for whatever reason failed to perform this year. So on your line of thinking if they stay, they should take a pay cut, right? Won't happen.

Just saw this. Didn't mean to paraphrase your post in mine above. Should have read the whole thread before posting. Agree with you 100%.

Salem. Free haircuts for life! -
So many options. Apparently Menegola has said he is happy to go back to Freo so Geelong can deal hm and Clarke to Freo but maybe they would want Freo's 1st round pick in return. So many options... Hopefully, the Cameron trade gets done quickly so it doesn't hold up everything else.

Should TMac stay it shouldn't directly affect contracts with Oliver and Petracca. Any new contracts with them will add to current which expire in 2021 and 2022 respectively. So one way or another TMac's cotract will be off the books or at a vastly reduced level by the time we pay Petracca more. And for Oliver we can tip more in the years post 2022. But there are other important deals to be done next year: Gawn, Jackson, Salem, Weideman etc but I would think timing of their $ over the term of the contract will overcome any major issues. I don't expect TMac to stay and it would be better to have his $ off the books but don't see his sal to be a major hurdle if he stays. Tom has been as loyal as Jones, Jetta and Gawn and has stuck thru the tough years. If we don't get Brown, I wouldn't be too unhappy for Tom to stay and give him a chance to find form and fitness.
-
Good point. We are well placed to facilitate as Alex McDonald is player manager for Cameron and TMac (for whom GWS have apparent interest) and Preuss is off to GWS. Hypothetically, I could see a trade where we get a 1st round pick from Geelong and send a combo of Preuss/TMac/player x, to GWS and they get other pick(s) from Geelong. Player x could be Vanders, as it puts him closer to his family and family business in NSW. Pick 15 from geelong, anyone? In my hypothetical it would more likely be 18 but one can hope. If gWS can't get their 'preferred' players from geelong (Parfitt and Ratugolea) Vanders and TMac would be similar position players.
-
I was also thinking that if GWS get Ratugolea (who reportedly they want) they are less likely to want TMac. And we could be waiting for GWS trades to do North (or other) trades. Just guessing but we and other teams could be held up by GWS matching.
-
With GWS matching it means the timeline is no longer in the FA period and falls into the Trade period ie until November 12, more than two weeks away. It has the potential to hold up a range of other deals with GWS waiting to know what picks/players it gets back so it can decide list needs and whether to use those picks for other trades eg Preuss, TMac etc
-
And the AFL turn a blind eye to it. After all, they need to 'make Ess strong again for the good of the competition'. Along with all those prime FTA spots and venue fixturing they get. As an aside I wonder if the AFL turn a blind eye if Saints/Crows play similar games and give Crows pick 2...
-
So much for their policy of paying 'unders'. That could easily shut the door on GWS matching (who reportedly offered a few hundred thousand less) so Geelong get to keep all those juicy first round picks.

I wonder all the other teams that need a tall fwd aren't showing interest. It is not as if he will be expensive either as a trade or sal package. -
Tom Langdon on sen just said Melbourne would be entitled to feel slighted as it was a substantially higher offer. I guess he is referring to the extra year $.

Tom Phillips - Outside Skills and Speed
Lucifers Hero replied to Simon Port's topic in Melbourne Demons
We could swap TMac with Phillips +/- whatever is needed to get it done. They have the same manager which should help negotiations. -
I did say 'if'.
