  1. I forgot to mention that for that future 1st (and rubbish >60+ picks) they got back two future 3rd picks as well as 4 picks in the 23 to 44 range they used last night. They are now very well set up to cover Daicos plus target other good players in 2021. Their swaps were exceptional.
  2. Hate to say it but Coll recovered from their trade period disasters. They started with picks: 14, 16, 65, 66, 68 of any potential value. Somehow they converted them (and their 2021 1st pick) to picks 17, 19, 23, 30, 31 and 44 (after matched picks). And their draftees included the highly touted Macrae, Henry and Mc Innes. Excellent pick swapping and drafting. They did very, very well.
  3. In his 6 years Goodwin has had 4 experienced senior coaches mentor him or assist him: Two premiership coaches, 1 assistant premiership coach. Has any coach ever had the luxury of such experience? We addressed our small fwd and wingman needs last night. No gaps on the list. Yes, always room for improvement but no gaps. We now have our premiership list. Injuries and covid aside, the things that have held us back in the last few years imv were: a poor/inexperienced coaching panel (in particular the line coaches), sports science, an inconsistent and confusing game plan, list gaps. Three of those 4 are now fixed. The game plan is now the issue. Pert has challenged Goodwin to develop a game plan that suits our list. That is the key to our success and it rests with the coach. A pass mark has to be more than comparison to two under performing years. They set a very low bar. Given we made a prelim in 2018, the improvement in the list, its experience, sports science and coaching panel since has been immense. A 2021 pass mark can only be if we go deep into the finals.
  4. Williams said his initial focus will be on the 1-3 year players. Macca did a very good job with the 2014-2016 recruits. A perfect time for him to arrive for Choco to arrive. Jackson, Kozzie, Rivers, Bowey, Laurie and Rosman are going to love learning from him. We addressed our small fwd and wingman needs last night. No gaps on the list. Yes, always room for improvement but not gaps. We now have our premiership list. Time to make it happen!
  5. We have recruited two flexible small fwds and a flexible wingman. We have addressed our needs. No gaps on the field any longer. Get them to gel. A bit of experience. A consistent game plan. This is our premiership list.
  6. How did we manage to get that pick swap thru the AFL! We have no pick 1 next year so technically not supposed to trade out any other picks. The 2021 4th round pick was tied to North so if Hawks go up the ladder they have done very well from that pick swap.
  7. Probably trying to trade out our pick (the old #28)
  8. That looked a bit nasty by Collingwood. Traded up to bid on Coleman and as soon as Lions matched they traded down again.
  9. Reports were that we were keen on Angwin and Holmes and both gone just before our bids. Grrr. Geelong knew they had to strike before our bids. They also have a bid before our pick #28 (or whatever it is now)
  10. Is anyone/website tracking the revised draft order as Academy bids are matched. Would like to see what has happened to our #28 and #50.
  11. They wimped it.
  12. Surprised Ess didn't trade out pick 10. Adelaide bid next and if they bid on McInnes it puts pressure on Coll picks 15 and 17. Will they match!
  13. Reports are they tried to swap #2 with the Hawks (4 and 24) but Hawks lost interest.
  14. The early Hawk bid on Campbell will have Sydney scrambling for points - they may want our pick 50 for a future pick to us..
  15. Thank you very much. Have just tuned in to the Fox broadcast ?
  16. That is what I have been watching ?
  17. This is very annoying. Part of the interest was watching the clubs and their deliberations. Does anyone know if it is broadcast on another platform?
  18. They might be but drip feeding the results thru the website broadcast.
  19. I hope they show the club drafting team during their five minutes rather than force us to watch these talking heads with their banal rehash talk. I'm watching on the AFL website. Please don't tell me it is being broadcast on Zoom or some other platform.
  20. Nothing offered re a delay as there isn't one. They have a script to finish. Sounds like they never intended to start at 7.00!! They probably think they are creating suspense. Reality - downright boring.
  21. Archie's manager is doing some back pedalling for him. didn-t-come-out-the-way-he-meant-top-10 "There have been suggestions Perkins' interview was in breach of draft rules. The AFL has been contacted by AAP but they won't be making any comment". Maybe his manager could give him a few media clues before the kid goes on air.
  22. Or maybe the club doesn't want to say if we missed the $1m target (before Christmas) by some margin. Otherwise I see no reason to not put it on the website - they put stuff and fluff up for all sorts of things. The $1m was a key part of being a 'non-assisted' AFL club. They might be a good questions to ask tomorrow night...btw any idea how questions are asked tomorrow night.
  23. I would be happy if we had a consistent game plan before games that players understood. A game plan that suits our list is what Pert has asked of Goodwin. Sure hope he delivers.
  24. Does this kid have an attitude problem? Wants to play AFL but only on his terms? Archie Perkins: “I feel like it would impact me too much and I don’t think it would be in their best interests as a footy club to have me there because I wouldn’t be 100 per cent with it, and couldn’t really commit myself 100 per cent..." i-wanted-to-be-honest-draft-prospect-tells-afl-clubs-he-wants-to-stay-in-victoria Given that the only Vic clubs who have picks in his predicted draft range (5-15) are North, Ess and Coll one could be forgiven for thinking he wants to play for one of the latter two. If karma is against him he may just get drafted by North! Interesting last para: "The AFL, which has anti-tampering rules, has been contacted for official comment". Expect to hear crickets from them. But it does set a poor precedent if kids can control the drafting after contracting to go to the club that selects them, anywhere in Australia.
  25. Some 'recency effect' happening here with folks focusing on pick swaps, pick upgrades and list management 'success'. Looking back over his 13 years, Mahoney was a coach the day we scored 186. He presided over assistant coaching selections and list management decisions during the Neeld years when he was Football Manager and we had a decent swag of top 10 picks. It was only after Taylor came on board and under Roos' guidance that our list improved. More recently he presided over the creation of the most inexperienced line coaching panels under Goodwin, who was himself inexperienced. Last year he presided over a coaching reshuffle and then an EOY review that probably cost him his job as they were repeated this year. So overall I don't view his tenure as a success for MFC. Its easy to be bedazzled by recent fancy pick swaps. Only time will tell if they were worth while. I've always thought his strengths are in administration, contract management etc and he has been excellent representing us in the media. I saw him at the fan forum last year and was very impressed. But it was time to go. I wish him well and hope his new job plays to his strengths.
